    FROM A SHELF

  • @fanfestdhl

    Cool!

(I saw the Embers do this live around 1969 in Chapel Hill, NC.) They were not yet anoited the "Kings of Shag" and were still doing some "non-shag" tunes.

  • @tink00000000 I don't think the Embers ever made that many "Shag" records, they always went their own way.Big on the "Northern Soul" scene. The Britts love the old Embers stuff w/ fast tempo.

  • Maybe it's semantics. The Embers were a HUGE Carolina beach music group in 1960s and early '70s -- "I Love Beach Music, "Myrtle Beach Days," to name just a couple of their numerous shag records. By definition, Carolina Beach music is music you can (Carolina) shag to. The Embers also did some non-shag stuff ("they went their own way" as you say) but kept going back to their Beach Music base. I've learned that 'Northern soul" is a category of music in the UK and includes Carolina beach music .

  • @tink00000000 Mrytle Beach Days was not The Embers. an't remember who because to me at 12 Beach Music started and stopped as far as playing live with The Embers.

  • @tink00000000 "Myrtle Beach Days" was recorded by The Fantastic Shakers-Thats not to say you haven't heard the Embers sing it. They cover all beach tunes at one time or another. Thanks....
