Like I said, Star Trek is just one incarnation as to the insights Gene Roddenberry had on human thought. It would be similar if this congressman brought up Socrates, Plato, Kant, James, Kierkegaard, Niche, or some other philosopher to form an argument. He just mentions Star Trek which was the medium Gene Roddenberry decided to portray his ideas. Dismissing something because it's just "entertainment" negates and removes all art from the work.
