daigo limits everyone's moves all the time. that's why matches look boring sometimes. you see a lot of that when japs play because they're so conservative when they play cuz they have super fast reflexes. US players, although good, are reckless.

Balrog is very linear and has 0 air game pretty much. Ryu has more safe moves, better normals, a move he can do in mid air (to escape or hit)), unlimited projectiles that require no charge, and juggle everything. Balrog has power and fast jabs....no cheap n safe cMK to link various things from far away.

Balrog has amazing normals (including air normals), sure he's linear - but many characters are. Balrog's ridiculous jabs alone counter most of the bad sides he has (which aren't many anyway).

Besides, with enough work - any playstyle can work with any character (like Fuson's offensive Guile)...
