@dukewilleo1630 WRONG. bush only used the veto 11 times with a huge majority liberal congress. he gave the liberals everything they wanted, now look where it got us. this is why many republicans are primarily unpleased with the job bush did.
@nmmeyer9922 you're kidding right? To say that the exexutive branch under Bush isn't responsible for the economic crisis along with many other problems is silly.

His is a perfect analogy. Obama got the car out of the ditch. What we need now is business to get the engine started. The economy is far better now than when Obama took over. All the Republicans want to do is repeat the mistake that Hoover made; trying to balance the budget in the middle of a deep recession. They want to cut federal spending which will cause even more jobs to be lost and take more money out of the pockets os consumers. Obama needs to veto all these GOP hair brained schemes.
The Democrats drove the car into the ditch. Bush had it pulled out a little and the Democrat congress came in and pushed it back in. Obama took the keys, started the engine, put it in drive and floored it. The car is now buried up to it's windows and sinking. Now, we have to get the keys away from that idiot before he buries it so deep that it can't be retrieved.
@qpwillie Bush had it pulled out a little??? Hahaha. The car was in a free fall when Bush left office. He had more and more jobs lost every month and ended up losing over 700,00 jobs in his last month in office. Obama turned trend that around in his first month and its improved every month to the point where we are added some jobs. That's a totally successful turn around.
Man, are you misinformed!! Unemployment was 7.6% when Obama took office. It is now just under 10%. Obama said that unemployment would never go over 8% if they passed his "stimulus package". The deficit has tripled and things continue to get worse.
Obama has claimed to "save" so many jobs which is laughable. Presidents don't create or save jobs.
These things are easy to find out with a little research. (Listening to MSNBC is not research.)
In a couple of days, we're going to rescue your poor ignorant ass by getting a bunch of totalitarians out of congress. In 2012 we will save you from the tyrant in the White House. You won't have sense enough to realize what we've done for you but we'll do it anyway.
5 trillion dollars more in the hole, since Obama took office, and you guys think we're 'out of the ditch"??? LOLZ! Democrats are bankrupting the USA. That is $5 Trillion that you will NEVER see in the economy, because it will have to be paid back WITH INTEREST, to the bond holders of this massive NEW debt!
Republicans make me want to move to Europe. My views and opinions should be pretty obvious from that comment. America has been in a ditch for the past decade, and not only in the economic sense, in the reality of how far we lag behind many other countries now in terms of ethics, transportation and so on, and it's certainly not going away over the course of only 2 years of a presidency, no matter how many people believe it would/could.
Obama almost gets it - Reid and Pelosi received the keys in '07 and drove the car into the ditch. Then in '09 when they put young Barry in the driver's seat, he panicked and mashed on the gas spinning the wheels, digging the car ever deeper into the ditch. And now we may need to be put in reverse to get it out of the ditch.

I guess that some parts of the country are really turning around and it must just be getting worse and worse where I live. This analogy fails pretty hard. How much longer is he allowed to blame "the Republicans" (some kind of evil blanket entity from which springs all bad things ever) for his gross ineptitude?
This analogy is wrong on so many levels, not only is it flat out bad it just doesn't work. So, in this metaphorical car in the ditch the republicans are "watching sippin on a slurpee" when, in reality the republicans fought against all of his proposed legislation. Oh yeah and the republicans cant do anything because they don't control congress, its not like they are willfully ignoring the economic crisis.
We are technically out of the recession even though it doesn't even seem like it. Pretty Much what he's saying is that we have it out but it still needs a lot of work.
0:57 i was waiting for "our methaporical car, got no breaks and no gear shift, we'll go methaporically far while we're standin' in the ditch, BITCH!" :D
@starraider113 they dont. poor people will, however, spend a tax cut if provided it, because they need it to survive. that would stimulate the economy, but in and of itself is rather sad. we need jobs.
Assuming you're a republican yourself.. my point it proven.
People who complained about Bush started complaining about Obama as well, I think he's doing a whole lot fucking better than Bush so far, and for that I'm happy.
Way to show how non-idiotic, un-hateful you are with a sweeping statement like that. So open minded that anyone who doesn't see things your way must be a bad person, amirite?
@FailWhaleIsFail most certainly i am a republican, and im not greedy, nor idiotic, nor hateful. you're entitled to your opinion, buddy. I just stick the Republican principle of fiscal responsibility. Everyone is entitled to the sweat of their brow. Whoever wants more money will get more money. Thats how our economic system works. Nothing greedy about wanting to do well for yourself. Secondly I dont see how anything i said was idiotic. And I don't hate anyone, except ignorants like you
You do realize I was addressing that point to republicans with higher power, aka in office.
As for regular citizens that have republican views, I could care less of what they think it's not like they have the power or the fame to make it happen.
@starraider113 Under the economic stimulus package the banks were supposed to write low-interest bridge loans for small businesses to get them through the economic collapse. But instead of offering them the low-interest bridge loans they offered them business credit cards that had much higher interest rates. And lots of poor people start a small business and grow it. One example is Tybrin, Inc that just sold out to a major corporation after 40 years. Look it up.
@starraider113 No, I said "tinkle-down" because all they want to do is p*ss all over the middle class and the poor. It's their justification to extend the Bush tax cuts to the wealthy. We've been down that neocon road before. I used to be a Goldwater conservative: morals, ethics, he cared about people. He cared about our troops. That's why he said (about Nam) either do what it takes to win it or get out. Try reading Dean's book Conservatives without Conscience; it's a real eye-opener.
The Ripofflicans put us into a sink hole, not a ditch. We are fortunate that we have recovered as much as we have. The Party of NO with their tinkle-down economics will ruin this country if they get control again. The Neocons are not like the Modern Conservatives like Goldwater and John Dean.
@poopstreek they're getting things done, that's whats changed. Yeah we haven't soared into an economic boom, but we're not sinking even further into a depression. That's something right there, and republcans had enough time to fix it..didn't work
@LordKaisen The same people are running things!!! Do you understand that the three top guys in his financial team have served for the last THREE PRESIDENTS? They caused this!
Stimulus, and bailouts don't fix the economy, or help the "little guy." Bush gave money to Wall St. hoping it would fix the problem, and Obama has given money to Wall St. thinking it would fix the problem. Bush wasted money on foolish wars, Obama is wasting money on foolish wars. So, you tell me how they are so different.
@poopstreek the last 2 years does not = "obama is wasting money on foolish wars, Obama has given money to Wall St. thinking it would fix the problem." its way more complex than that. and guess what it doesn't matter what i think because ultimately you have to decide for yourself who you're gonna trust to lead this country.
@LordKaisen I can say that, because it is true. Obama is the biggest spending president in history on both bailouts/stimulus, and wars, that is undeniable.
It is not "way more complex than that."
If you want to know who I want to run this country, I can tell you one thing--They better NEVER give money to corporations, and they better QUIT wasting money policing the world. Or I will not support them. At the highest levels, the D's and R's are the same. Look at Obama's cabinet!!!
@poopstreek I am looking at Obama's cabinet. I'm looking at it right now. And its people like Geithner, Gates, Chu and Napolitiano that have the skills necessary to turn the country around. Hell yes there have been mistakes in the past, and hell yes there will be another recession tomorrow, one that is bigger and even more detrimental than today. But I'm not ignorant enough to believe that we should kill all corporations and then we win. The world is complicated, you have to get used to that.
@LordKaisen How many years was Geithner president of the Fed? He helped cause this mess! Did Geithner work for Goldman Sachs just like Bush's Hank Paulson? Did not Bush appoint Ben Bernanke, and then Obama gave him MORE POWER? Did Obama vote for Bush's TARP? Do you think that they are going to change monetary policy from Bush, when the all worked for Bush?!? They are getting more rich off of Obama, than they did off of Bush!!!!
Gates was W's sec of def., did our foreign policy change? No!
@poopstreek well who the hell is out there trying to do anything different! I state this again; YES they have had stains on their record. YES they were there when the recession began. But we must not throw them out and purge our intellectuals based just on that. Unfairly that's what eventually happens and its a shame. Because then you get dumbasses like the tea partiers who think that the Bible is the Constitution.
@poopstreek honestly Chomskys no different than those foxes that have taken our rights and our liberties. I don't trust newbies. I trust those with a record of getting things done. Geithner/others have done good things, yet somehow those are always downplayed in America.
@LordKaisen Getting things done like ripping the American people off for TRILLIONS of dollars. They belong in jail, not on another administration. I can't help that you think they are good people, it just means that you have not done your homework.
@poopstreek there ya go again ripping them off even after they've come back at it trying to fix their mistakes. I applaud them, I really do. And if you think purging the govt will fix our problems, well, you should review some history. I've laid my case, so now we wait and see what happens. Time reveals all truth.
This is an interesting statement but i am somewhat critical about the analogy that Obama makes in this regard. The claim that the U.S economy (aka the car) has been in a ditch (recession) is accurate in my opinion. However the claim that the Obama administration has pushed the "car" out of the "ditch" seems to be jumping the gun. In regards to U.S. economy our deficit has more than doubled in 2 years, technically if we hold to the car in a ditch analogy we have actually driven the care deeper in
@Techra ah that is a good point. Still i feel that the economy can not be said to have been removed from the ditch. Aside from the deficit, there are also issues with unemployment rates and failures of small businesses nationwide. I'm not saying that this observation proves Obama's programs wont work, just that they have not rescued the U.S. economy as one would rescue a car from a ditch. I appreciate your insight and would be glad to hear anymore that you would like to give :)
@starraider Go get an education before you speak about things of which you have no knowledge. Your inane comparisons don't move me. Oh, and the US standing HAS improved internationally. Iran is waging a war with all outsiders, including the Palestinians who are trying to make peace, so that is yet another of your bungled attempts at stringing an argument together. Silly Republican, leave the thinking to the liberals and go back to banging your sister.
@starraider113 How did they fail? How do you get attacked in the middle of a military execise? How do you turn a world generally heading tward peace into a sadistic cesspool? Katrina, the economy, the US moral standards, US world standing.... you name it, they wrecked it.
All the way back to sparta, ghangis khan, cesar, alexander the great....lol. Weren't you crazy neo-cons suppose to have Syria, Iran, India, China, Venezuela, the whole Milkey Way galaxy and the aircraft carries head to the edge of the Universe to rgime change Heaven? The one super power in the Universe with intergalactic corporate rule and darth Cheney.......crack pots!!!!
The GOP would be the same as electing a gang of drunken teenagers looking for stuff to smash and homeless people to beat to death. And it's ok because they feel like it and feels powerful. Like, the same neo-con nit wit will say, who believes the toofer movement, will also say, who believes the CIA... if it's against thier propaganda, it's just a generic lie with fill in the blank. Who believes ____? Souless drones.
@starraider113 And the GOP will fail more miserably as proven by the previous administration. It would be nice if Americans would vote for Constitutional Patriots like Ron Paul, but right now they are more corrupt than the government and it would spoil their occupation with social peer garbage. To actually have to be a citizen and respect others rights from the Creator is too much work and no fun for the ownd and pwnd-ing ding bats.
"The bigger mystery in all this ...is: what happened to reasonable, rational, educated people of purpose in this country to drive them into such burrow of cowardice that they can't speak the truth, or act decisively, or even defend themselves against such a host of vicious morons in a time of troubles..."
With nothing more than a cute metaphor and a stirring public performance? (I said that)
Obama's 'don't call it a stimulus' economic development plan
September 7 ,2010 The first part of an economic development program announced Monday by President Obama would bring $50 billion in infrastructure upgrades, but the term 'stimulus' has become associated with big government spending.
Video: Obama on GOP: I don't want to give them the keys back.
I'll back the people that are positive. Obama's message, and what he's trying to accomplish, has always been positive. Whereas, all I see from the conservatives is negativity. I'm not a member of any political party, but side with the liberals on most issues, so I CAN see the forest for the trees. Do you really think things would have been better if the conservatives were in control? I mean, REALLY?
Americans for now have their own criminal operations to protect, so I don't see Ron Paul type Patriots winning, the Democrats and Progressives are the far, but closest thing to some form of sanity. The GOP is absolutely bonkers.
I don't think the GOP is going to get the win they presume they wiil. The GOP ranges from no brains to criminally insane. Jan Brewer, Sarah Palin, Glen Beck, Limbaugh, Boehner, Cantor, Cheney, Rove.....
Ask for the keys back? They're being taken back Barry, not asked for. The unemployment rate the last time Republicans held Congress in December 2006 was 4.5%. In 2 years with a Dem Congress and President Bush it went to 7.6%, in two additional years with a Dem Congress and your dumb ass, Barry, we've gone to 9.6%.
The more this nut talks the more people are leaning Republican. This nut is killing the Democrats. I won't vote for him again. He lost me with his out of control spending.
Whether you belong to a Union, are a Small Businessman, a Retired person, a baby in the womb, a Constitutionalist, or a George Soros/ Huffington post subscriber...
We have all been SCREWED.
Time to VOTE all the sleazy incumbent politicians out of OUR WHITE HOUSE.
Get your head out of your 'dark place' and start thinking !
To lower the Unemployment rate The federal government should put in place a policy that says if a state government or city government or a US company agrees to pay its employees that are in the 25% or higher tax bracket ,80% of their salaries and expands their work force by 20%, the fed will pay the balance of the employees salaries. That way at income tax time the fed will get back the 20% it put out plus the 5% or higher depending on if the tax bracket of the employees is 25% or higher.
Great Speech Obama... Go Democrats... Some people just don't like the truth. If Republicans are interested in improving the economy why don't they want to pass tax cuts for small business and the middle class. Why is everything they want to do is for the rich and big companies? Why was the Republicans against financial Reform? Why were they against Health care Reform? Why can't they say what they are going to do differently?
Only the unions will benefit from this NEW 50 Billion dollar stimulus gift from Barrack. It's called payback time, since they contributed millions into his campaign fund. Chicago politics at work here. 2012 can't come fast enough!
He is moving forward alright. He's pushing down on the gas straight to the cliff, and half the passengers are shouting out stop, while the others are chanting "Yes we can! Yes we can!"
This one's still blaming and not owning up to the time he has been in office. What has he done? He appoints a key Obamacare official during recess without even a hearing, and that official wants rationing healthcare. He made bigger government with 3 dozen Czars of his own to do his bidding. He won't sign any tax break renewals. He spent more money than anyone while raising small biz taxes and fees. Mr. President, big government is not the solution. Small businesses are the solution sir.
"The two parties should not represent opposed ideals and policies Instead, the two parties should be almost identical, so that the American people can throw the rascals out at any election without leading to any profound or extensive shifts in policy. Then it should be possible to replace it, every four years if necessary, by the other party, which will be none of these things but will still pursue, with new vigor, approximately the same basic policies."
If the 'car' was in the ditch, why was that? Because of Bush and Greenspan looting the public with inflation theft, and stealing and spending the publics money.
Damn I Hate the Republican party. Their bunch of gun toting, Endangered species shooting, incompetent, anti-science, pro-pollutant, xenophobic, always thinking with their gut, Religious slaves....o well they'll be back in power before we can start hating them all over again, and repeat the process with the dems. Don't get me started on those democrat D-BAGS. lol
Can we PLEASE vote for a third party system? PPLLEEAASSEE
i agree, but the replacement most likely will be WORSE. sorry to say. both parties are irreparably broken. don't look to presidential politics to change things. grass roots organizing is the best way forward.
@gargonak Yeah imagine if you guys went and had one of those more conservative guys in office, Iran would of been invaded by know and trillions of dollars would of been spent on the war like iraq,Obamasa a good man.
@gargonak Ya know what? I'll write your name down...ya know...for fun. And in 2012, I'll write you and we'll reminisce about your feelings of Obama's infallibility.

RabiesBunny 1 year ago
@FailWhaleIsFail most certainly i am a republican, and im not greedy, nor idiotic, nor hateful. you're entitled to your opinion, buddy. I just stick the Republican principle of fiscal responsibility. Everyone is entitled to the sweat of their brow. Whoever wants more money will get more money. Thats how our economic system works. Nothing greedy about wanting to do well for yourself. Secondly I dont see how anything i said was idiotic. And I don't hate anyone, except ignorants like you

LordKaisen 1 year ago
@LordKaisen It does not matter anyway... Obama kept W's financial team, and foreign policy team.
Nothing has changed but the rhetoric.
poopstreek 1 year ago
@poopstreek they're getting things done, that's whats changed. Yeah we haven't soared into an economic boom, but we're not sinking even further into a depression. That's something right there, and republcans had enough time to fix it..didn't work
LordKaisen 1 year ago
@LordKaisen The same people are running things!!! Do you understand that the three top guys in his financial team have served for the last THREE PRESIDENTS? They caused this!
Stimulus, and bailouts don't fix the economy, or help the "little guy." Bush gave money to Wall St. hoping it would fix the problem, and Obama has given money to Wall St. thinking it would fix the problem. Bush wasted money on foolish wars, Obama is wasting money on foolish wars. So, you tell me how they are so different.
poopstreek 1 year ago
@poopstreek the last 2 years does not = "obama is wasting money on foolish wars, Obama has given money to Wall St. thinking it would fix the problem." its way more complex than that. and guess what it doesn't matter what i think because ultimately you have to decide for yourself who you're gonna trust to lead this country.
LordKaisen 1 year ago
@LordKaisen I can say that, because it is true. Obama is the biggest spending president in history on both bailouts/stimulus, and wars, that is undeniable.
It is not "way more complex than that."
If you want to know who I want to run this country, I can tell you one thing--They better NEVER give money to corporations, and they better QUIT wasting money policing the world. Or I will not support them. At the highest levels, the D's and R's are the same. Look at Obama's cabinet!!!
poopstreek 1 year ago
@poopstreek I am looking at Obama's cabinet. I'm looking at it right now. And its people like Geithner, Gates, Chu and Napolitiano that have the skills necessary to turn the country around. Hell yes there have been mistakes in the past, and hell yes there will be another recession tomorrow, one that is bigger and even more detrimental than today. But I'm not ignorant enough to believe that we should kill all corporations and then we win. The world is complicated, you have to get used to that.
LordKaisen 1 year ago
@LordKaisen How many years was Geithner president of the Fed? He helped cause this mess! Did Geithner work for Goldman Sachs just like Bush's Hank Paulson? Did not Bush appoint Ben Bernanke, and then Obama gave him MORE POWER? Did Obama vote for Bush's TARP? Do you think that they are going to change monetary policy from Bush, when the all worked for Bush?!? They are getting more rich off of Obama, than they did off of Bush!!!!
Gates was W's sec of def., did our foreign policy change? No!
poopstreek 1 year ago
@poopstreek well who the hell is out there trying to do anything different! I state this again; YES they have had stains on their record. YES they were there when the recession began. But we must not throw them out and purge our intellectuals based just on that. Unfairly that's what eventually happens and its a shame. Because then you get dumbasses like the tea partiers who think that the Bible is the Constitution.

poopstreek 1 year ago
@poopstreek honestly Chomskys no different than those foxes that have taken our rights and our liberties. I don't trust newbies. I trust those with a record of getting things done. Geithner/others have done good things, yet somehow those are always downplayed in America.
LordKaisen 1 year ago
@LordKaisen Getting things done like ripping the American people off for TRILLIONS of dollars. They belong in jail, not on another administration. I can't help that you think they are good people, it just means that you have not done your homework.
poopstreek 1 year ago

In regards to U.S. economy our deficit has more than doubled in 2 years, technically if we hold to the car in a ditch analogy we have actually driven the care deeper in
teaherbalist 1 year ago
@teaherbalist economy =/= deficit
Techra 1 year ago
@Techra ah that is a good point. Still i feel that the economy can not be said to have been removed from the ditch. Aside from the deficit, there are also issues with unemployment rates and failures of small businesses nationwide. I'm not saying that this observation proves Obama's programs wont work, just that they have not rescued the U.S. economy as one would rescue a car from a ditch. I appreciate your insight and would be glad to hear anymore that you would like to give :)

sunRsaturn 1 year ago
@starraider113 And the GOP will fail more miserably as proven by the previous administration. It would be nice if Americans would vote for Constitutional Patriots like Ron Paul, but right now they are more corrupt than the government and it would spoil their occupation with social peer garbage.

If Republicans are interested in improving the economy why don't they want to pass tax cuts for small business and the middle class. Why is everything they want to do is for the rich and big companies? Why was the Republicans against financial Reform? Why were they against Health care Reform? Why can't they say what they are going to do differently?
