'being shackled to the ovi store' ... when comparing it to the apple store! for a start its not shackled to the ovi store at all, its open source and folk have/are developing many apps for it with no restritctions. The apple app store is true shackling! Only apps jobs likes can be installed . . also as the proud owner of 7 touchsreen stylus devices i can say that ive never ever lost a stylus. . . these guys are awful, do that do any research at all?? Stylus is a tool. Sure, you can navigate with it, but mostly it is a precision tool for those who want to draw ("whiteboard" application for sketches and diagrams) - or write chinese. I gave this analysis one out of 5.

I am an artist and a developer, I need that kind of drawing tool often. You just can't draw (in a meeting) with your finger and email it to friends. No, you can't.

Next time your pissed off texting someone (I'm sure you will be), and you find yourself typing fast on a touch only phone and you make 3-10 mistakes (and make mistake deleting mistakes). Just remember you could have gotten a full keyboard you can feel and you could look up at something else once you get good at it (like I do when I type on a real keyboard. Would you buy a touch only laptop? with no keyboard? Why buy a phone like that?

It's a good review. It will keep customers like the reviewers away from the N900 and so prevent people from getting disappointed. Nokia themselves stated that the N900 isn't the final step but more of an initial one to gain attention for the Maemo platform and a significant user base. N900 has some rough edges and while it may be perfect for early adopters and nerds (like some of us ;-) the average user really should consider waiting for the more grown-up successor.

Apple FORCES you to keep your phone locked but if you jailbreak it, they brick it.

Apple SHACKLES you to the Appstore. Try installing Quake 3 Arena, Adobe Flash, OpenTTD, ScummVM without jailbreaking.

Try getting to the root of your device on an iPhone. Or using HID keyboard and mice on an iPhone. Try transferring files, or even using a proper file manager on an iPhone.

Impossible to give a score to a device with the elements you ("reviewers") cited.

Bad:

- the stylus isn't needed at all with the N900; it's a plus element since you can use it on the resistive touchscreen for example to draw and do precision tasks

- the weight is normal, you exaggerate (a lot)

- the ovi store.. have you TRIED to install an application?? oh, you can install also apps not certified by Apple.. no jailbreaking! =O

- you say nothing else, nothing about the OS or HW.. only loud music.

Here's a tip for the future: after using your stylus, use your hand to put it back into the slot where it belongs, and do not throw it in a random direction. You will easily find the stylus back in it's place the next time you need it. (I never lost any time while looking for my stylus like this!)

The N900 is hardly heavy & it's not supposed to be a slim phone which has nothing in the inside, (cough* iphone) it's aimed to bring the technology into your pocket. I repeat, do NOT compare the best with grabage.

I love the idea that you're shackled to the Ovi store - if you want to see shackling, go for an iPhone. With the N900 you can get apps from Ovi, from Maemo (there's a Maemo Select icon on the phone you've actually got in your hands FFS!), from anywhere else you fancy, or you can write you own, or get someone to write them for you. This is a shackle free zone.
