...be careful lads! Them prostitutes' tunnels can be quite... er, 'tricky'- to say the least!! Please put on better protection when y'ins explore them hookers' 'oles... Wear full body rubber rain coats... This way it cannot be denied that y'ins don't practice 'safe-search' when cavortin' about them Holbeck Hooker Highrise viaducts...
Been on there a few times and we even came across the subways as kids but never really knew why they were there. They only lifted 1 set of tracks up for some reason and left the other down. Had lotta fun exploring as a kid but i will say one thing, last time i checked there was a padlock on that gate, so how did you guys get up there :P
hi phil, great video. We did the viaduct yesterday and it was good fun. Just wondering if you know how the viaduct line went under the line below wortley south jn? There doesnt seem to be enough height between them for clearance? cheers!
It's strange that hopkin. The track is left on one side of the viaduct down the whole length of the straight run of the viaduct. The curve into Leeds is lifted & so is the embankment section.
excellent!!-im from Huddersfield, ive always wondered if you could get on that. -i remmember it from the 80s -love the 'get carter' music. -i love abandoned railways etc, i would love to do Stanaege tunnel or woodhead!!
Hi njpurling. The track or viaduct line known as it's known ran from Leeds station & used to connect further down with what is now the Leeds-London mainline, All the track has been modified at Leeds now meaning they could abandon this line to save the cost of maintenance work on, also the curve near the station was too tight to put electric wires on. The line used to carry all London trains & closed in 1988.
The track originally run to the old Wortley Station, near Farnley Shed, it was joined by a new junction (Geldard Road Junction - just south of Copley Hill Shed)in the mid 60's, whilst the part to Wortley Station Closed in 1965... The Viaduct was built by the L.N.W.R. When the station was rebuilt in 2000, they were planning to put a single line in Leeds, and electrify it all, BUT only a small stub was in place, for (us) GNER trains.
Excellent! what can I say... The music sets the mood, The driveby is excellent. A real sense of mischief about this! The history of the viaduct and the subways is captured perfectly! Excellent!
Glad you liked it Leigh. I was going to send the link to you but i don't have too now! I've been on another top secret mission today showing someone around this part of Holbeck who just might be wanting to film it in a much more proffesional manner for the big screen although my lips have to be sealed for a whole year yet :-)
Absolutely brilliant. You certainly portayed the Holbeck Viaduct at it's best 'Bout time this kind of footage was so beutifully done. A million thanks Leigh

Crickey! I didnt realise its been out of use for 20 years now!
Love the films, Phil. Do you organise trips and stuff for some of these walks, or is it just a hobby with your mates?

Hi Lemington. The viaduct will never carry trains again although i believe it could be turned into a cycle path/walkway.
