You can believe that your wife is faithful to you when you're not around, but that's not a religion. Religions need to have beliefs, dogmas, and rituals. Atheism lacks all three.

That's actually what atheism is (though it's sometimes called weak atheism where strong atheism is believing that gods don't exist). Agnosticism is actually the belief that the existence of gods is unknowable. I don't hold such a belief in general, though some gods are defined to be unknowable (e.g. the god of Deism).
