OK I know this is just opening night & they would most likely get better as the tour progressed, but I had always heard that they were not a great band live & this kind of confirms this for me. I personally don't think they sound that great here. I have seen Sting recently & he is one of the few from his era that still sounds good & can hit the notes, but here he sounds bad.
I love them all, I missed the tour, and it is so depressing, like a bad dream, I understand it being hard with the conflict and emotion, so much beyond them conflicts, the best music I know this is my favorite band! They all have so much talent and I don't know people who can come together and make such beautiful music Sting and The Police are unique. Sting was a bit eccentric, a bit selfish, Andy was torn between Copeland and Sting's conflicts, it's a shame for it to end. Copeland best Drummer.
@GrandDuke3600 According to some, they actually attempted to re-do "Truth Hits Everybody" to release as new product, but almost immediately Sting & Copeland started to go at each other, as they did years ago when the band re-did "Don't Stand So Close to Me" in '86.
THAT pretty much killed any attempt at continuing beyond the tour.
SC writes a great chapter in his book about how bad this first show was. When they left the stage they weren't speaking. The funny part is that according to SC, Sting and AS were both angry at him for how bad he played as well as some unfortunate comments he made to the press.
On a seperate note, I have no idea how anyone could cooexist with Sting. What a pretentious douche.
Entertains people for years..great songwriter..amazing band i think if you had a chance to see them live you would take it..wembley arena 1981 the past is gone..agreed but dont knock great tunes..
If Sting sticks his head any further up his own ass, I sware to god his head will reappear out of his adams apple.... What a complete cock... No wonder Les Claypool finds him odd. Copeland all round humourous, Summers humble and dry humoured, Sting tree-hugging cock. Not infallable? Errrr? Are you absolutely certain about that Sting??? Oh by the way I'm certain. You're a cock! You're a cock! ........ Oh, and a nob-end.
@freeloader67 Always was, apparently, lol. Have to wonder what he would've been like if The Police had never happened & he'd basically stayed a school teacher who sat in on jazz jam sessions at the local pub?
@hofnersinla whaddaya mean going bald? He's worn a hair piece since day one. A very convincing one back then at that. Hey, most women would still fuck him silly with or without his hair. I wouldn't mind being Sting for a day. I'm kind of an arrogant prick myself. Ha Ha.
they were terrible on their first night. they were kinda bad through the first few concerts. but when they had been playing for a while after that, they were phenominal.
Watching this vid... I've realized how humble Andy and Stewart are as human beings.... But, Sting?.... What a pompous megalomaniac!!!!! "I did this... I did that... I predicted sell outs.... etc. etc.....".... Sting should change his name to "Stink." Come back down to earth you arrogant a-hole.....
I will always love the Police, I've been a rabid fan ever since 1980, but Sting is so full of himself, it's sickening. He will always think everything's about him. Nevertheless, the Police are one of the greatest groups ever.
@asm1 lol, if Summers is 'world weary' its b/c he's had the luck of usually being between both Copeland & Sting. In interviews around the time of the tour & in his bio, he's basically had to 'put up' w/ the other 2's personalities in order to enjoy the thrill of being in a band. I wouldn't be surprised if, around the time of the interview, he had to 'deal' again, lol.
The way I see Sting talking to his bandmates, and playing on stage with them, seriously makes me think that this was ALL about business, and nothing else. He seems so pissed, he doesn't even try to hide it.
Holy smokes, why did they wait so long?! I would have seen them every year that they went on tour. I saw them last year, and if they tour again this year, I'll see them again.

They should've left it alone. the material isn't strong enough to escape the eighties feeling. the eighties stunk. Roxanne was the one strong song, and everyone is sick of that one. the rest are unsatisfying ditties, redeemed by style possibly at the time of their heyday...but not now. passe middle age lackluster bloat.
I agree that Sting had the most successful solo career. However, I'm not sure that Andy and Stewart were trying to sell millions of records after the band split. They were more interested in their projects for artistic reasons. They were already millionaires at that point.
I love this group and respect Sting as an artist, but he has to be one of the most self-important musicians I've seen. Stewart and Andy helped Sting become what he is today.
Well the intensity is gone from "Material" that's for certain. Obviously you're in a different head-space than you were when you performed them last, but people quite honestly come to hear how they used to be. Not a modern day arrangement. Yes? No?
Sting is amazing! I got the thrill of singing with him on stage at his concert at the Gorge, WA. To see the video, search Jessica Ketola - check it out!
the police is like my favorite band but god dammit i fucking hate sting. he thinks hes like a huge artist. look at him in the interview, leg up, a gay little hat and what not. "to float the idea to andy and stewart, and then to the world." idk, he just really bothers me. i understand stewart for hating him.
sting is such a wanker! i love how the songs on the POLICE reunion tour just so happen to "mysteriously" and "coincidentally" sound EXACTLY like they would if they were performed by sting's SOLO group. listening to this, for a second i thought i mistakenly youtube'd "if i built a fortress (around your heart)". what a self-centered ass!!
hehe... as always... more "I's" and "me's" in Stings comments than ever. Stuart has always been a little dorky. Love it! Sting didn't like it either though for years. They were awesome in Orlando last week!! No Synco 2 though... :(
This video does NOT do Sting a tribute. If this was their opening night I'm extremely glad I got to see them after they did many more concerts. Sting in this video sounds very odd to say the least, but when I saw him in chicago (07 and 08) and in New York (07), he sounded much better than this...he was awesome.
It's so great to see these guys together again; but it's so bizarre that Sting and Stewart Copeland are now played by Jonathan Harris and Robert Redford!... just kidding!
do you know what brand the gloves are??? i have no clue, but gloves seem to help me out more when drumming... it would help if someone knew what brand they are... i would really appreciate it...
they got back together to make money - I was there biggest fan in their time - they ended up hating eqch other. Sting, obviously doesnt need the cash, but it raises his profile!!!
agreed. but the fact that they each got £1million EACH PER GIG may have been a little too difficult to say no to. even for sting. andy summers seems like a nice guy, but i guess stewart and sting probably came to blows...2 egos of that size will almost definitely clash. love to see the fight soon on youtube. hee hee!!!
I know when Sting realized he was fked as a solo act...when he had to share the venue. Ex. w/Annie Lenox otherwise he wouldnt sell out...he shouldve reunited after 2000, after Desert Rose.
I saw them early in the tour (June 2007) and again 2 months later. Although I liked the first show, they were amazing the second time. So tight. I absolutely loved that it was just the 3 of them. They rocked. So Much better then the Synchronicity tour (with the flashy back up singers.) I read that Stewart and Andy insisted on it. Can't wait to see them again, July 2008. Worth every penny.
Saw the tour in Anaheim, CA...what a waste of $300. Awful show just AWFUL. They were painfully loose, unrehearsed and you couldn't even hear the guitar. No keyboards! Are you guys too greedy to share the astronomical profit with a keyboard player? Don't you realize that keyboards are necessary for 3/4 of your catalogue? May I please have my money back? I'm a FAN! I saw the Who's tour the same year and what a difference! The tickets were 1/2 as expensive & show 10x as good. Bummer.
You should pull a surprise on us all, Sting... and stick to singing and keep your trap shut. I mean, man... what a pompous shithead. "I'm not infallible... I'm not claiming that."
Oh, you're not, Sting? Well... you're coming damn close, holmes. Jesus... what a head case. (Not Jesus. Sting, I mean.)
Comparing apples and oranges never work... I prefer Sting and the Police but I would never say that the stones are less good.
OH, BTW I'm a Maiden/Metallica fan so talking 'bout blowing away. Let's compare some more apples with oranges. Maiden blows the Stones to Mars anyday ;-)...
God, this is disappointing. Stew's into his own world, Andy needs some serious practice and of course Sting is changing the tempo, melody and structure of the songs like he's so famous for. Play 'em like you wrote 'em boys.
man, you're losing the whole point about playing LIVE, playin' LIVE it means you don't have to do it the same way as you recorded.
and about stew, sting and andy, they're gifted musicians if they want they can play roxanne in a polka way, and it will sound good, because they can pull it off in every genre.
oh gawd, no matter what I suggest there's always some response. What do people do at live concerts? Mostly, they love to sing along to the songs they know. You can't do that when the melody, phrasing and tempo is changed so much just for them to be cool.
I bet their stock brokers and bank managers were more excited than anybody about the reunion. I'm usually bored at live shows. I saw the Police in the 80s, I think. It's easy to forget. I'd rather watch young doing karaoke at the local bar here in NDG, at least there's some real human drama there.
These guys kick i watched them in Wellington and they were amazing. Stoked i was part of the tour will remember it for years to come also got my t-shirt haha
then fungulo, you're extremely hard to please. They blew me all the way to fan heaven last night in Adelaide, and I don't think I'll be back down for weeks. to come back 30 years later and not only sound the same, but for sting to be better ripped than he was in the eighties, is something that just doesn't happen with hardly any other act in rock history - this tour just wasn't a string of concerts, it was a historical event, and I felt so priviledged to be allowed to witness it.
So well said, and whatdya know, I was at the same show!
But yeah, you see the Stones and other oldies stinking up arenas everywhere, but these guys are massive and didn't disappoint in the slightest. I didn't expect such an amazing show. My Mum saw them back in the 80's or whatever, and also came to the revent Adelaide concert, and she absolutely loved it. That says a lot to me. Great band.
I went!!! The first thing Sting said was, "I love miami, cause everybody is so sweaty, they looked like they just had sex." It was pretty funny. If Zeppelin tours I'm going. Not sure if I'm gonna go see Van Halen, when are they touring? Did it pass? Probably did.
They've ruined it. They're a parody of themselves. I saw the Seattle show, and it was one big stupid ego stroke, and this is my favorite band ever. I had to go see them, morbid curiousity,
Old, tired, mere shadows of their former selves, pandering to us by playing only old stuff, only radio tunes.
why did they have to come back and ruin all of my memories?! Copeland doing an interview with a white glove? The only reason why drummers wear gloves is when they've got blisters from playing too much, and copeland hasn't played to much in like 20 years.
it's because at his age, it's a little harder to play rock n' roll with traditional grip. and no, he's still been playing, just not in high profile situations. he's been playing since 2001 with oysterhead, gizmo, and making other little jams around the west coast.
were you hidden in his basement inside his bassdrum aaalllll this time?
or have you talked to his wife about the real fashion reason she personally thinks the glove is all about but hes too shy to tell the white glove frenesy he feels to the whole world?
so... come on brother!
why is everybody always so sure about what is inside ones mind?
Uh, hey buddy, you know all those Police songs you love? Sting wrote 'em! Well, all the hits, anyway. If Sting wasn't The Police, then why didn't Stuart and Summers start a new band with a new vocalist? If they were The Police, replacing Sting shouldn't be a problem, right?
By the way, Sting and Andy have always been jazzy. Go back and listen to the Police records, especially from Regatta De Blanc on. There's a bit of jazziness in a lot of their music.
It's true but it had an edge because Sting was constantly fighting with Andy and mostly Stuart. Bands that don't get along make the best music because they are constantly critical of each other. Sting is an amazing song writer but he has turned into a giant establishment pussy.
true he never does the police arnt the police without stewart and andy and sting never gives enough credit to them but sting makes great music and there is no police without sting
yes, that is what I mean- the Police was made by all of them. Their success was the combination of all of them. They are no doubt in my mind, the BEST band ever. Pompous asses or not, I love them to the end of time!!!!!!
i dont care of what Sting thinks, for me The Police is a great band formed by 3 great musicians, my dad is a huuuuge fan I went with him to see them on Mexico it was awesome
LOL-it is no coincidence Sting went to Andy first before Stewart, he was always the buffer between them. Sting IS arrogant when it comes to the Police. There has been talk for years about them getting back, Andy's been asking for a long time- but only when Sting felt it was a good idea and not a moment sooner. He may be a nice person outside of the Police, but he does not give the other two enough credit for the success of the Police. He did not then either.

Tman12349 3 years ago
it's a drummer's glove. some wear 'em so when they hold the stick, they have a better grip. you drop the stick less
Jimi44444 3 years ago
do you know what brand the gloves are??? i have no clue, but gloves seem to help me out more when drumming... it would help if someone knew what brand they are... i would really appreciate it...

maybe for blisters???
messageinabottle79 3 years ago
obviously, as there's no drum kit nearby, it's a wanking glove.
however, if i was him, i'd use it as boxing glove to knock sting out!

I think these guys are idiots for the fact that they will break up after the tour. If they break up. What was the whole point of the reunion tour?
Tsippi 3 years ago
they got back together to make money - I was there biggest fan in their time - they ended up hating eqch other. Sting, obviously doesnt need the cash, but it raises his profile!!!
helsangel66 3 years ago
agreed. but the fact that they each got £1million EACH PER GIG may have been a little too difficult to say no to. even for sting. andy summers seems like a nice guy, but i guess stewart and sting probably came to blows...2 egos of that size will almost definitely clash. love to see the fight soon on youtube. hee hee!!!
scallyhunter 3 years ago
I know when Sting realized he was fked as a solo act...when he had to share the venue. Ex. w/Annie Lenox otherwise he wouldnt sell out...he shouldve reunited after 2000, after Desert Rose.

I hope there´ll be a live dvd of this tour

I saw them early in the tour (June 2007) and again 2 months later. Although I liked the first show, they were amazing the second time. So tight. I absolutely loved that it was just the 3 of them. They rocked. So Much better then the Synchronicity tour (with the flashy back up singers.) I read that Stewart and Andy insisted on it. Can't wait to see them again, July 2008. Worth every penny.
mecopolis 3 years ago

Brings back sad memories about why the Police broke up the first place. Sting is all about me, me, me while Andy and Stuart are we and us.

Play 'em like you wrote 'em boys.
muskypuckers 4 years ago 2
man, you're losing the whole point about playing LIVE, playin' LIVE it means you don't have to do it the same way as you recorded.
and about stew, sting and andy, they're gifted musicians if they want they can play roxanne in a polka way, and it will sound good, because they can pull it off in every genre.
Killbuddy 3 years ago 2
Totally agree...but dont blame sting about the song tempo's, thats Stewarts responsability.
chapmanhamilton 3 years ago
oh gawd, no matter what I suggest there's always some response. What do people do at live concerts? Mostly, they love to sing along to the songs they know. You can't do that when the melody, phrasing and tempo is changed so much just for them to be cool.
muskypuckers 3 years ago
Sting is so arrogant. He has every right to be, but he is arrogant.

I bet their stock brokers and bank managers were more excited than anybody about the reunion. I'm usually bored at live shows. I saw the Police in the 80s, I think. It's easy to forget. I'd rather watch young doing karaoke at the local bar here in NDG, at least there's some real human drama there.

watched them last night in sydney it was very ordinary ,the best 2 live bands ive seen are tool and the who
fungulo300 4 years ago
then fungulo, you're extremely hard to please.
Springklean 4 years ago

I dont think they have ruined it - they come back a much mellower band with a softer sound
They are getting on remember - to come back with the old sound would of been wrong - a good band changes with the times.
Only a new album will tell if it was right or wrong to come back?
tazong 4 years ago
They've ruined it. They're a parody of themselves. I saw the Seattle show, and it was one big stupid ego stroke, and this is my favorite band ever. I had to go see them, morbid curiousity,
Old, tired, mere shadows of their former selves, pandering to us by playing only old stuff, only radio tunes.
Lame.

scallyhunter 4 years ago
why did they have to come back and ruin all of my memories?! Copeland doing an interview with a white glove? The only reason why drummers wear gloves is when they've got blisters from playing too much, and copeland hasn't played to much in like 20 years.
bdysrf 4 years ago
it's because at his age, it's a little harder to play rock n' roll with traditional grip. and no, he's still been playing, just not in high profile situations. he's been playing since 2001 with oysterhead, gizmo, and making other little jams around the west coast.
amil82993 4 years ago
Where have you been, living under a rock? Stewart continued to play and tour constantly after the Police. Do your research.

were you hidden in his basement inside his bassdrum aaalllll this time?

Sting destroys every song on the tour with that smooth jazz bullshit. Fuck Sting. Andy Summers and Stuart made the Police.
PopsMcKracken 4 years ago
Uh, hey buddy, you know all those Police songs you love? Sting wrote 'em! Well, all the hits, anyway. If Sting wasn't The Police, then why didn't Stuart and Summers start a new band with a new vocalist? If they were The Police, replacing Sting shouldn't be a problem, right?
By the way, Sting and Andy have always been jazzy. Go back and listen to the Police records, especially from Regatta De Blanc on. There's a bit of jazziness in a lot of their music.
samwestonpotter 4 years ago
It's true but it had an edge because Sting was constantly fighting with Andy and mostly Stuart. Bands that don't get along make the best music because they are constantly critical of each other. Sting is an amazing song writer but he has turned into a giant establishment pussy.
PopsMcKracken 4 years ago
Yeah , hes great , but stewart is better, Who was the one that had scandals, .............oh surprise, Sting, ohhhh, thats so sad , but true

true he never does the police arnt the police without stewart and andy and sting never gives enough credit to them but sting makes great music and there is no police without sting
thepolice17 4 years ago
yes, that is what I mean- the Police was made by all of them. Their success was the combination of all of them. They are no doubt in my mind, the BEST band ever. Pompous asses or not, I love them to the end of time!!!!!!
811shanti 4 years ago
i dont care of what Sting thinks, for me The Police is a great band formed by 3 great musicians, my dad is a huuuuge fan I went with him to see them on Mexico it was awesome
RadioCambodia 4 years ago
LOL-it is no coincidence Sting went to Andy first before Stewart, he was always the buffer between them. Sting IS arrogant when it comes to the Police. There has been talk for years about them getting back, Andy's been asking for a long time- but only when Sting felt it was a good idea and not a moment sooner. He may be a nice person outside of the Police, but he does not give the other two enough credit for the success of the Police. He did not then either.
