@Sheven718 wow U r a mint Dave , so 4 me knowing this info is the next best thing to being there in 64/65 so now I can listen to these sounds and turn off the lights and wham bang I am there and knowing these were the exact records they were playing. I will say something else and that is during my mod days in the 80's I am sure the records being played were slightly different like maybe more commercial stuff and mainstream bands etc. and more northern soul .
thanks. my aunt tried to convince me to become a mod when I was about 10 or 12. I wanted to be 'cool' and she was going to show me how. she failed ... or I failed, and didn't make it as a mod. But I remember my brother and I in our new corderoy jocket walking a cocky walk and proclaiming, "We're mods!" We didn't even know what a mod was, but it was how we 'felt' about ourselves that made us cool! We got the prize, didn't we!
I got into mods in 79 when I read the richard barnes book called you guessed it MODS, Wow I never looked back I mean the music and clothes etc I just wish I could go the scene club in 63/64. Does anyone know a good set list of records that Guy would play down the scene club?
@staypress wlliam bell "monkeying around " the temptations, "why you wanna make me blue, " gene chandler, "nothing can stop me ", the blendells, "la la la la la", the newbeats, "pink dally rue, james brown, "night train", the miracles, "gotta dance to keep from crying", the larks, "the jerk" the contours, "can you jerk like me", mary wells, "whats easy for two, is hard for one", the ad-libs, "the boy from new york city", the miracles "i like it like that", mongo santamaria, "watermelon man"
@staypress pretty loud i can tell you, i think the loudest of them all was the last chance, when i think back it was almost deafening, it wasn't overpowering in the scene and the sound quality was very good, i went mostly to the last chance saloon, the music there was very good but i have to say out of the 3 clubs, the scene, la discotheque, and the chance, the music in the scene was the best, no doubt about it, if there's anything else i can help you with let me know, regards dave
great posting rob just wish there were more people commenting on all this, they really were great times specially as it all happened at the cutting edge of R n B, you picked two great tracks to remind you of the scene, for me it will always be the blendells, la la la la that reminds me of the place, there were so many brilliant records around at the time its so hard to pick favorites, le de da i love you, getting mighty crowded, and so on, and on ha ha, regards dave
Good posting, but don't forget Tiles, Oxford Street. They had lunchtime gigs. The Small Faces were supposed to play on a couple of occasions and didn't show. The last time of non-appearance was about as much as some could take and the place was, how does one put this ?, TRASHED !!!.......Those were the days, my friend (As Mary Hopkins once sang Hehe !)....................Cool posting like I say. Thanks.
Really nice video, interesting. Gonna check out the mod generation site now.

Excellent piece of film!
You truly are a man who 'KNOWS' what he is talking about!
I've heard all kinds of rubbish info about Mod, but you, Mr Nicholls' is a man who knows!
You'll be hearing from me.. As i have use for your knowledge.
