I love the tiny house movement ... it would be lovely near a lake or in a campground. My grandfather lived in an old airstream at the lake in the 70s. In fact, a few of my friends have made campers their homes until they can afford an upgrade. I'm interested in solar energy and how many panels it would take for a tiny house. BTW I would of preferred a tiny house compared to a roommate/dorm room situation in college.
All that's nice but if you have to park it in your parents yard and use their bathroom then it's more like mooching. I like the small house movement but a 2 bedroom, 1 bath within walking or bike ride from where you work is a better idea.
@CitizenKane380 -- Regarding "mooching" off others... In most cases, where someone is sharing facilities of a nearby home, it is a choice to reduce one's impact on the environment rather than unnecessarily duplicating resources. Typically people pay money (or barter) when they use land, electricity, laundry, restrooms, or other facilities. This keeps things fair and avoids the stigma of appearing to be mooching off of others.
@Digikid2007 -- You're welcome. I should mention that the newer homes are typically 8 feet wide by 14 feet long and have a bathroom similar to what you'd find in a nice RV. Some have composting or incinerating toilets.
Sure beats living in a van down by the river!

@Digikid2007 -- There's no bathroom in this home, but that's because it was designed to share resources and amenities with others.
