  • Do you know when u said those markers stink don't get em are they the shinhan markers?

  • @lovely09ization I believe they were called, Chartpak..yuck! =)

  • @AlifrIsNotMyName do you have eny mr sketch markers or sharpy makers?

  • Do u know if copics work good on canvases

  • @bdimonn261 I'm not sure actually. It should unless your canvas is extremely textured, otherwise it should be fine!

  • ha i was sent from a graffiti vid

  • God damn these copics are ridiculous! 500 bucks for the biggest set!

  • would these survive outside like on sticker/posters?

  • @PandaIVIonium I don't think they should have a problem but if you are using them for signs or something like that, it would be a waste to buy expensive markers to do those. If not, I think it should be okay but I have not personally tested that out

  • you sold me on the copic! great vid

  • So, I have some dumb questions to ask-_- So, with the prismacolor markers, is there any way to make them blend smoothly at all(I know dumb question..)? My uncle was a graphic desinger and he game me over 400 of them(they have been used before but they work just as if they are new.),and I know nothing about them. I know you said the copis and all are better, but well these work just fine?

  • @xzeldax97 Oh yes of course, the three I mentioned are all good in my opinion. I just mentioned that Copics ended up working the best for me. They blend okay as they are drier (comparatively) so the ink does not run over as smoothly. I think it will depend on the type of paper you use but overall it will be fine. Try going over your strokes multiple times if you need the color to be more seamless

  • when ur doing a drawing and ur trying to make it have depth if u use two shades of the same color i.e light brown dark brown do. u need a blender to get that seemless transition

  • nice video i really do miss them makers as well but now i just gotta pay 6 dollars now for one maker lol and the sets OMG.

  • Hi i also had the tria letraset markers ( the newer ones) and they dried out within 2-3 months. i was really disappointed with the life span and as i knew how much they cost i took good care of they but that didn't help. i'm now in the position of purchasing some copics but this would be a big pay out for me. one shop does stock them but should i buy them online?Would/could i be cheaper and where would you recommend buying them from? this would be good as i need some for my design course thanks

  • @BMDesign009 i always buy my markers in store just for the fact that i can test them and their vibrancy. I've never purchased online so i'm not sure about that. but i will say that either way you should go in the store to try them out first. sorry this is so late, i've been so busy. xx

  • what about marker paper and vellum, which brand would u recommend?

have u ever tried chartpak? i dont mind the smell just wondering about the result if they are easy to blend.

  • @whyyoumailtome honestly i really love using canon marker paper bc bienfang is a bit too thin for my preference. for vellum i use...i forgot the name but it's in the orange plastic wrap =P

i don't use chartpak at all so i really cannot give you a good opinion but it seems like some people still enjoy them =)

  • @AlifrIsNotMyName oh thank you. ^^

  • i actually like the chartpak, they are super juicy and i dont mind the smell because i got used to spraypaint when i was youg

  • thanks!

  • As for paper mediums:

Vellum: expensive but translucent and decent to render with

marker paper (canson bienfang etc) great for marker duh lol< for final renders

Laser paper: cheap, great with marker, chalk but might bleed a bit with copics/charpak

inkjet paper: cheap, absorbs ink and blends well, good with markers and chalk JUST DONT USE CHEAP BOND PAPER: ruins marker tips, bleeds all over the place and sucks up a ton of ink destroying all attempts to create good contrast

  • Copics:

Pros:puts out lots of ink so easy to blend, great colors, refillable ink, replaceable nubs so these last forever. Last long per refill, great on most mediums

Cons:expensive (unless you buy them in asia)

So in conclusion i would recommend a mixture of Charpaks and Copics, prismas are kinda garbage :/

  • In industrial Design, SJSU we use 3 types of markers, Copics, Prismacolor, and Charpak Ad markers and here are the pros and cons

    Prismacolor:

Pros:great on vellum, great for gradation (lineweight)

Cons: ink drys very fast so its hard to blend, markers dont last long (2 weeks around), overall the worst out of the 3

    Charpak

Pros:cheapest, BOLD colors, puts out lots of ink so its easy to blend, lasts very long, great on most mediums

cons: smells horrible (contains rat poison LOL)

  • not to be rude, but industrial design uses TONS of markers. most people in my major included me end up with 60-100 different markers, (crazy ones have over 200) and ill put some more marker input in my next post :)

  • good review

  • prismas actually blend great, it all depends on how your coloring with the marker.

you mentioned streaks, if you color in on direction as you did you will see streaks

however if you go back over it in another direction the streaks will disappear.

they do dry quickly but only because your using marker paper, they dry the prismas

if you use smooth bristol paper instead it will control the ink flow and it wont blend an inch, it also insures great blending.

hope this helps you in the future :D

  • @PieceOfArtwork13

how about trying to keep them longer, like I got some the last week and the brown is already running out, I was told to lay them flat when storing them, and I do so but this one is still running out :(, is there any way I can increase the life span?

  • K, thanks....I just bought my first copic marker today (just one cause I wanted to "test drive" them) THEY ARE AMAZING!!! I'm saving for a 72 pack....thank god 4 eBay....they are only like $200 there

  • Hey...I was wondering..how long do copic markers last? and what kind of paper do you reccomend for use with copic markers??

  • @Starcaster2124 they actually last quite a while if you take care of them =) the majority of my copics are about 2 years old and still good...of course if you use them nonstop for an entire semester then it is a different story

oh and for the paper, i really prefer canson marker paper - hope this helps!

  • @Starcaster2124 They sell refills for Copics. You just need to buy the Ink refills and the tool used to put the refills in. I'm not sure how much they cost but you can find them on Joanns.com :)

  • I like your Ugly Doll in the background.

  • lol thats the exact same art bin i have XD

  • thats y the guy tv tried coloring his car in chartpak markers really fast,he was ddoing it fast to prevent himself from fainting XDD ive bought copics online, and if i need a marker i found an art store that sells tria! :DD (and maybe prisma, not sure) but i bought a few of the new ones and since im not in US theyre about $5-6 for me TAT,but the old ones there were cheaper >:( by like $1 and i want a brush tip,but they had a discount on all of their items,so thats their price XD

  • what about alpha brushs touch or otr

  • what camera did u use to video tape this because i want to make manga art tutorials and i dont have a camera :( and i want one thats high quality like yours so how much did it cost and what type of camera is it

  • i bought my first tria today! :D the new ones, my color that i bought was

C247 and i got it cuz i wanted a sea blue :) and it was 19AED (about $5) and i bought like 40 copics at price cheaper than u got them and i bought them in the US and i dont live there,so if i want a new marker i can just go buy a tria marker at this really cool art store >:D (even tho its expensive) and i dont have to wait for someone to bring it with them to where i live (since i ship to someone i kno who lives in the US

  • I bought prismacolors pack. do you know if it will blend well with other markers such as copic?

and another question, could you tell me the best color names for fleshtones? because i bought a pack that comes with almost no fleshtone markers. thanks

  • @Pintoleite3 prismas can blend well with more work so i usually go with other brands. for fleshtones though i only use prisma and copic. though some have long gone, here's what i still have! prisma: jasmine & brick beige - copic: skin white, pearl white, milky white

sorry, i had more but have thrown them away, good luck! =)

  • Thanks v much for this! defo gunna try Copic, the skin colour packs are really nice! :D you have helped me alot :)

  • @Brettgasmic oh i am so glad! thank you for watching and i hope you like copic! =)

  • WHERE DID U GET THE CHOCOCAT >:]

  • @KOR3ANLOLLY ahh i can't remember! =D

  • A lot? You poor thing, that's less than a 1/4 of my marker collection for sketching. Forget paying 3 dollars per prisma though, swoop those off the shelf in Michael's for free. It's not surprising the triple nib marker dried out- the air got into it too easily cause of that feature. Good luck in school!

  • good video

  • Great thanks!

  • i bought a set of 12 copics and they are great, except to really blend them well u need a lot more marker.... but you can refill them so thats great, can u refill prismacolor and tria???? good video!

  • @aleckbratt you can refill tria i think, they use to come in this bottle where you can pour onto the felt tip or dip it in or something. but to be perfectly honest, i haven't seen them lately

  • whats the best blending and cheap marker

  • @YamahaRick which material are you going to use it on? either way, I'm going to say that Prisma is probably the more affordable and blend-able of the bunch =)

  • @AlifrIsNotMyName Thank you I have another question. Do prismacolor markers need a special kind of paper or tracing paper?

  • @YamahaRick no, they can be used on any mediums such as tracing paper, canson, marker paper, etc... i only asked because some of the other brands do a better job on different surfaces than prisma. then again, they are more expensive too =/

  • The last brand that you named (which I cannot seem to type, heh) is also said to have a carcinogen in it. They are just NOT good to breath in, or really use.

  • what about pro markers

  • @stewma234 ProMarkers work pretty much the same as Trias except they're not refillable, come in less colours and have two nibs, a broad chisel one and a bullet one.

  • at my art store prismas are $6.28

  • you should have stole all those, it's like $150- 200 for a decent set lol

  • Hello, could you tell me where you can find the old tria markers?

  • @lamuli31 i'm afraid the majority of them have been taken off shelves =/ but hopefully smaller art stores may still have them =) i hear the formulation has since been improved so i will check on that and report back!

  • It really has been improved. I got a few of the new ones for Christmas when they first came out and they dried out extremely quickly, but the newer ones that I have seem to be exactly the same as the older ones. I think that they might have been having issues with the production of the newer ones rather than the ink.

  • yu should get the prisma blender marker they make jus for blending

  • Why did u keep on looking to ur left ( my right )? lol

  • hahah my camera was hooked up to the tv on my left so i had to keep checking to see if it was showing up well. but got a new set up now, whew =)

  • I use both copic and old tria, and i prefer tria by far. i find that the copic doesn't blend as well and dries far too quickly on normal paper.

also the pricing system is different here. They are both difficult to get hold of (the tria even harder) so they're both quite expensive.

  • i agree that old tria was awesome! copic is best for faster rendering because it does actually dry up faster on marker or canson or something. but if you ever need to use markers for trace, i would go w/ tria or prisma =)

  • i think you are missing one of the most famous brand of markers. That is DecoColor

  • Well. I just bought the 48 ct. Prismacolor Premier Double-Ended Art Marker Set at Dick Blicks for just under a $100 (I lucked out, they were on sale and normally retail for over $130.00). I see that you don't like these, but the reviews of other users give them a solid rating. I also have Copics and they are very good.

  • oh i am sure they will be good! i do actually enjoy using prisma, my only complaint is that its not always the best choice for every medium. don't worry, i am sure they will be great markers for you =)

  • chartpacks are the best ... and the oder is because of the xilene .. the liquid it has inside that makes them las FOREVER!! and they are the best for renderings .. and guess what u do if they run out .. u get more xilene in a hardware store and whoala! its like new .. and the old ones ,,, u dont trash them because they adquire cool effects

  • haha true true, I suppose that applies to the other markers, if you want more life out of them, you can pour some alcohol and shake it but it wouldn't be effective for long. maybe I'll give Chartpak a shot =)

  • thanksssss

  • are these paint markers???? and whats better copic or motolow one 4 all????

  • these markers have ink and i'm not sure what the motolow one is but ..i do like copic markers! =) i've never used paint markers before

  • @AlifrIsNotMyName molotow is a graffiti paint company

  • Copics are great!! I Tried the Trias too the colors were really vibrant more so then copic but.. the Broad nib gets damaged way to easy.

  • true true! do you like the brush tips instead?

  • i just got like 63 prisma colors for 50 cents each i love them

  • what??? that's an amazing deal! lucky lucky!

  • if you want the prismas to blend and look smooth you gotta get the prisma blending marker same price as any other prisma

  • i tried the blending marker and it was just okay for me, maybe i need to give it another shot

  • wow how many markers do you have?

  • a million bajillion and one =)

  • where can you buy Copics? i am currently using Prismacolor and the blending sucks but i love the color.

  • most art stores sell them but i got mine from blick art supplies. and i completely understand how you feel about your prismas! same here!

  • wtf 3 bucks for prismas ? there 5 at my micheals

  • @atcq99 mine are 3 bucks each

  • hey good review. thanks! im just now getting into marker drawings and renderings. ive been using alot of faber castel and letraset. i really want to get into the copic and tria markers though, so this is very helpful! thanks!

  • just steal them all you fucking idiots. racking is key!

  • i get my copic sketch markers for 4.25

  • Thank you this review is very helpful. Unfortunately I couldn't afford copic so I ordered prisma. I'm not that impressed with them.

  • Copic, Tria, Prisma, and On the Run are the main ones

  • ahh!! i have to buy so many markers for my industrial design class...im just going to steal them...lol

  • Nice Review! I like copic and the Pantone Universal Twin Markers, I just bought new Tria's and are waiting to see just how good theese really are ;)

  • That was a good review on those markers. I've been using Prismacolor markers for years and I really love them. However I have not used the other two brands before. Copic seems like they would be fun to use but I don't think I could afford to buy enough of those markers to really enjoy them...

  • or instead of paying you walk in with a cup put them in and walk out.. boom 0$ for something overpriced

  • stealing is bad :P

  • Very Good Review.

I was wondering what path to go down because I like to make tags on computer paper. But I have only so much money so Prisma's are the golden treatment. I hate using Deco's as they are extremely unpredictable. Some can be nice and juicy some can be dry and streaky.

    Thx.

  • hello ...thank u for the review ..it was very helpful ..

have anyone hered about neopiko ..and how it work ...i was hoping to see them with this review ..but still nice ^__^

  • i have all those marker brands -___- copics best but i loooove prismacolor

  • i will try my best to do a good review on decos, i have not ever used them before though because i have not needed them but i will try it out. however, i may not anything relatively soon so it may take awhile- sorry!

  • For Prismas, you have to do it on Bristol Paper, and there's a color-less blender to make them blend easier. Also, you are lucky to have those Copics. I've never used them before, because I can't even afford a car, much less Ultra Super Markers.

  • GAH, $5 USD for Copics O.o In Canda there $8.29, yikes...

  • oh gosh, really? sigh, i will stop complaining now ..hehe it's okay! they will all pay off in the end right?

  • where i am they are 11 dollars at michaels!

  • nice review dear thanks

  • Some of the first batches of Trias were plagued with cap sealing problems which caused them to try out prematurely. The company actually would replace the bad markers. Anyhow, the drying-out issue you mentioned should be in the past.

  • awesome! that's really great to hear, i will be trying them out soon! =)

  • Thanks so much for doing this video!

I'm a freshman majoring in Fashion Design and I've always used wet mediums like watercolor and gouache for my illustrations, but I thought I'd give markers a try this year. I really didn't know whether to go for Prisma or Copic markers (because they're so so expensive!! :( ) so this really helped a lot.

    Thank you again!:)

  • aww that means the world to me! i wish you all the luck in the world! please let me know if you ever have any questions =)

  • prismacolor art markers cost $5.48, not $2.00.

you have the old version, the new ones work 10 times better than copic.

  • hi! :D thanks for the review.

I have copic and I love them, but I was thinking of buying tria for a better purple selection. my question is, how "fast" do they dry? I've read-heard in other sites the same problem about drying up fast, so I don't know if I should buy.

  • well, if they have not changed the tria problem then you are looking at less than 3 months of usage before they dry out! i know, it surprised me because the previous ones could last for a year and a half at least! so, maybe you can ask the people who work there if they heard anything about that problem, if not, maybe buy one to test it out. i hope this helped, good luck! and thanks for watching this =)

  • prismas r 5.00 not 2

  • Nice review, it is a pleasure to hear someone without attachment to the product give an honest review. I'm going to try copic.

  • wow, this was really helpfull. i guess ill have to save up for copic markers then...

  • sharpies are good though, just for some people. ok there aee not the best for some, but i've seen people using sharpies like real masters. it just work for some and for others dont, either way they ae not that expensive. but i loved ur video. it helped me a lot.

  • ooh and for the coloring in..prisma dont blend aswell but if you color in small circles you get good cover with no streaks..

  • that is true, i love prisma pencils for their ability to blend well together so primsa marker + the pencil = no streaks! =)

  • ive been trying out markers for a long time and i like chartpak more than copic sometimes......i have to say copics are the best as they dont smell and blend nice..but are expensive.. but chartpak are $2.50 now..they dont have a large amount of colors to choose from but they blend way better than copic and fall on to the paper nice..but they have the most baddest chemical smell than all the markers above...but they are nice aswell

  • That was an excellent summary and very informative. Thanks!

  • Thank YOU for taking the time to watch this, if you ever have any questions, I'll be happy to help!
