@gonegeese That means you are a good person :-) When the pilot breaks away and flies up to say goodbye for us all one last time.. I break down myself COMPLETELY.
@aberhan78 actually in ww2 the bomber pilots when they were coming back to base they would fly this formation when an aircraft was shot down, thats where the tradition started

I know this event was for a solemn cause. But G.R. needs more exposure to the men/women and their machines that protect our country. Muskegon puts on quite an air show, why not an air show ala Grand in the same fashion. An F-15/F-16 solo, Thunderbird's or Blue Angels, an AV-8B kicking up some river water, F-22 showing some stunts, or even a couple B-2 passes. Fill the lull time with a HH-60/PJ rescue exercise in the river and a power boat sprint race. It'd bring in some revenue.
I went golfing on this day, yes, golfing in January, It was nice on this day, probably 50 degrees, and seeing the planes fly over us on the highway home. Pretty cool.
i remember exactly what i was doing.. i was standing working at payless on alpine and closed the store so i could stand out side and watch it .. beautiful.. even cars stopped ot watch such a beautiful day to!!
Yea I was pretty much underneath them. Wish I could have been in two places at once and seen them from a different perspective also. I was thinking a good place might have been the old Cracker Barrel off of Alpine.
Excellent vid! This is one of the better ones i've seen. I got to see them practice for a few hours south of GR near my house in Hopkins. It was really cool! Would have been nice to see them fly downtown too!
Thanks. Yea it was quite incredible, the people, the planes, the sound, the flyover, the cheering, and finally the sunset all made for an amazing minute and a half.
you passed the missing man formation cause you was to busy worried about the one in afterburner this vid completly defeats the purpose.

Next time follow the formation, not the "missing man"
kbrod666 2 years ago
What is the meaning of this ?is it a symbol of missing man goes to heaven ???
aberhan78 2 years ago
Basically. It's a way of honoring the individual who has passed.

I was there that day. Still think it was the most military planes for a fly-over ever done.
Hvnscent 3 years ago
Nope, if you've seen the Reagan flyover, they were about the same. The Reagan flyover, though, had tighter formations.
APuzzledMind 3 years ago
By my count, that was 21 planes, I've seen a video on youtube with, I think it was 29 planes.. I'll try and find it.
getous 2 years ago
Okay, correction, found the video, was only 22 planes. Found 2 vids of it, :

eltorrente - Too bad I did the best I could. Where is your video of the flyover? Oh thats right you don't have one.
d5240 4 years ago 24
That's right, but I watched one of the good ones- shot by people that knew what a missing man formation was and were actually trying to film it. :D

I was actually working in the Varnum/Bridgewater place building when they flew over, so I never actually got to see them.

d5240 5 years ago
Excellent footage, Standing on the 6th St bridge, you were far enough north to capture the magnitude of the final jet.
jmkciei 5 years ago
Yep, you are correct I was on the 6th st. bridge. Was pretty sweet will probably never happen again in downtown GR.
