I hear only maybe one misstep at 3:39 or so, but overall the only complaint I have with the bassist's performance is that it's a bit relentless and unsubtle. But I'd rather that in this case than drag the other four down, which basses risk with the Trout.
He's not an especially light touch, but technically it's fine and I didn't hear any wrong notes. Maybe you're hearing harmonics? The recording isn't very high tech, and the bass will suffer most from a lack of mixing.
Is it me, or is the double bass hitting exceptionally many wrong notes? It almost sounds as if one of his strings were out of tune. Normally, I'm not bothered by wrong notes, but that was really too much.
The other players are superb, though; especially the violinist and the violist.
What an excellent rendition! I really enjoyed listening to this. Just a few notes: It just seems very rushed in a few sections (mainly the sixteenth passages between the violin and piano). It's not a solo piece - it's a chamber piece.
yes! you shall get a stand rack and place all of the instruments on it...then u shall take one bow and play all the parts at once while playing the piano with your feet...or get conway to play all the parts at once and you play piano :)
I enjoyed this, but thought the bass was too prominent. It seemed like this was a bass quintet rather than a piano quintet. It may have been how they were miked though.
good quality vid and sound. love the way the players of the quintet represent such a span of the peoples of the world. coming together to make beautiful music. this is how the world should be
DocVulkan - Very well said! The list of players includes Japanese , Chinese (or Korean?), Irish, German and Hispanic names -- all coming together to play this beloved piece by the Austrian Schubert. This is how the world should be.
My quintet played this when we were in 8th grade. We held up fairly well, but weren't polished at all, but this piece is beautiful and is a lot of fun to play. Good memories. I love how it's like a duet between the string quartet and the piano, such an interesting arrangement. The performers do a great job in this as well.

This piece is extremely catchy, and it's going to be stuck in my head for the rest of the day. Darn it, why did you all have to play it so well? ;)

This is such a beautiful music! When I was on the airplane, I kept listening to "The Trout quintet 1st movement" over and over for 12 hours.
