faut avoir les tripes pour se taper mingus out en restant sobre (je parle véléité, là). mc laughlin a tenadnce à me les briser menu avec ses solos à la speedy gonzales. Ici, rien de tout cela. tout dans la sobriété. chapeau
Charles Mingus wrote this song in 1959 as an elegy for the saxophonist Lester Young (who had died two months earlier) who was known for wearing that style of hat.
For me, this album is a peak in his entire output. Everything is on top form, and the influences seem to come from unknown sources - unlike later output. A very unique sound and mood.
@martinjp1958 Yes, definitely a peak and this track in particular is simply perfection in every way, in every note. Bravo, I forgot how many times I’ve played this record back in the day, over and over and over.
man, I sure would appreciate it if you could post Peace 1, and Follow Your Heart. Along with this great version of Goodbye PorkPie Hat, were my favorites from this incredibly hard to get CD. Mclaughlin is as precise as lightening playing that Ovation. One of the most beautiful Albums I've ever heard. If they reissued it I'd scoop it up in a heartbeat.
Thanks so much for posting this! The one and only McLaughlin record I ever bought. I personally dig the entire "guitar only " side the most, and would love to see Waltz for Bill Evans, Hearts and Flowers, Follow Your Heart...any of it is stupendous!
this song is how i learned about Mingus. really happy that he decided to play this on the record!

Non credo. Questa roba è troppo ricercata. I mclaughlinfags si spaccano solo di roba elettrica.
