  • I prefer the BB, just sold my OCD, but BOTH are Great Pedals!

  • @nightpesada i'd like a pedal that i can use for rock, hard rock, and (maybe) metal. which would be better of these two?

  • @EriksAnarchy512 Both are top rated pedal, but for me the BB Preamp owns the OCD, I think the OCD changes a lot the tone of the amp, gettin muddy... it's only my opinion...

  • i like bb preamp...

  • OCD seems thicker, better for rock.

  • I see Eric Whorton ;)

  • Getting my EP Boost this week! Them pedals are going to be sounding sweeter than ever! The EP Boost makes everything sound better!

  • Own em both and love em both! The BB has more tone options than the OCD. For Blues I go with the BB, for Rock it's the OCD!

  • Both of them sound great. Maybe its the settings but I think the OCD might be a bit warmer.

    Great Demo as Always, Bravo!

  • Would i use one of these units to boost a tube amp distortion??

  • Got an OCD, but now I want to grab a bb as well... Hmmm

  • @TheT6t6t6 im in the same boat haha. i think they could be stacked really well

  • Man I love my OCD4.

  • THIS IS JACK BLACK \M/

  • nice how he cranks the ocd way louder than the BB, I guess we can see which one he favors. not a real good comparison.

  • if you want to drive the crap out of your "dirty" channel two the BB preamp BLEW AWAY my fulltone plimsoul, which is an OCD on steroids. the BB just takes my mesa into the greatest sweat spot I've ever listened to and it doesn't "flub" out at low gain to boost my drive channel, AMAZING PEDAL!!! especially on low gain settings with a little delay, wow!!!

  • How about get both if you can't make up your mind? One as a boost and the other for your drive. And vice versa.....

  • OCD sounds AFD!, freacking awesome

  • Playing both side by side, the BB just kills the OCD but Gearman doesn't have the BB EQed correctly...at least if you want a thick, fat tone. The tone controls are very sebsitive on the BB and tend to need to keep the treble very low.

  • BB is just more compressed. Get the JHS Morning Glory

  • @coluvsguitar are JHS pedals worth to pay for???

  • @EduSanchezGuitar Idk, ha I was just in a JHS phase when I wrote that. The BB is sweet though. JHS definitely makes a variety of great effects and they even have blowout sales on their Facebook and Twitter too. Although, I just got a Fulltone Fulldrive 2 and I like it so far

  • @EduSanchezGuitar No, you should rather steal them ;)

  • Suhr Riot

  • The OCD sounds better. More full, I think i'm gonna have to get one. OH NO!!

  • BB PreAmp........Handsdown......winner

  • bb sounded cheap and thin

  • BB Preamp beats it by far.. Much cleaner, clearer and less muddier sound.. They both sound great and are very close, but my vote goes to BBP!!..

  • use the ocd with the 18v adaptor!!!!

  • Should i trade my OCD V.4 for the BB preamp?

  • The BB preamps keep most of your original tone and are really transparent. The OCD doesn't give a flying shit what your tone is. It just wants to rock!!!......BB all the way!

  • OCD ALL THE WAY!!!!!!!!!

  • wich one works best with a tele?

  • @MrManson94 Let me know when you find out because I can't find anyone around here that has a BB preamp in stock to try out..I tried the OCD with my American Tele Special, and it sounds thick and rich of mids and low tones, even with the HP switch on. but idk, I have mixed feelings about that kinda tone for a rhythm guitar

  • Great demo, but it's still hard to decide...

  • still can't decide!

  • @MrManson94 get both ^^

  • the OCD is great I love this pedal!

but I think the BB have more style..

  • The BB was more defined in gain settings. I have the ocd v 4 & Custom shop BB w/ mid boost-cut.. For me BB. They both sound GREAT Stacked.

  • what can I say... they're both great. BB more mid-sweet and OCD more ballsy. OCD sure doesn't seem to like high drive settings. Lucky for it, it has a huge volume boost on tap on the volume knob to get that extra tone going somewhere else. viva la crunchtone

  • @cachetband: When each 1 set 2 give a "tender & juicy" overdriven sound on its own, they don't stack well. U said it: 2 hissy, u lose the gr8 texture they supply, and not much added gain. MIght b fun if u like noisy, feedbacky stuff (Sonic Youth, etc.). In that case, best 2 go BB==>OD. But 4 str8 playing, stacking these 2 doesn't suit me.

Try a Virtual Sound Jeckyll & Hyde for layering your overdrive/disto--it is two pedals in one box and does the "kick up the gain" thing very well.

  • BB = vintagier; OCD = thicker, meatier, crushinger

[Yes, I know two of those words aren't real words but you know what I mean] I have both--I use the OCD more during rock gigs because it's so much more of an attention getter in loud scenarios, but I like to mess around with the BB with the blues band and almost equally for songwriting and recording. Rock on GMD.

  • @superduperlouber do they stack very well, like do you ever play with them both on at once? or would it be too hissy?

  • @cachetband FYI, I just recently started layering an MXR '78 Badass with the BB preamp--I highly recommend it. I go MXR ==> BB. It sounds awesome when both are kicked in if you tinker and get the settings right.

  • @superduperlouber

that seems to have gotten into style lately

  • Yo. Thanks for making great fx vids. Much respect.

    N8

  • Why cant you ever switch guitars in the middle of the video?

  • what do they sound like stacked on top of each other? i dont think you did that in the video sorry if you did haha

  • i want buy the hooter guitar trip ! But where can buy it ?

  • I have an Ibanez TS808 Vintage RI and Fulltone OCD v4. What boost would you recommend to go with this setup RC Booster or Keeley Katana. Also, would you recommend getting my ts808 keeley modded?

  • ocd by a landslide

  • Nice demo Jack Black

  • you know people knock hellla hard on Fulltone but it seems most people do _____ VS. OCD. The OCD is a workhorse of a pedal. I love my V3 but have an Plimsoul in the mail. and LOL, they have a DS-1 vs OCD on the side column. LAAAEEEEUUUMM!

  • I want both. hahaha

  • I prefer the BB without a doubt. I had the opportunity to test both pedals at the same time, and for me the BB is more precise, but still can have a fat sound. The sound of the OCD is too "messy" for me, to dirty (but not in a positive way).

  • wonder if the ocd would sound good through a DRRI with the bright cap cut and a quality usa strat? Some say yay and nay, whats ya'lls opinion?

  • Joooooooosy ;)

  • I was really hesitating between both, and fortunately this demo...

... didn't help at all !!!!! They both sound great !

  • I had both pedals and they are both very good. but in this demo, GM dude dude didn't really put time on BB. I think Fulltone payed for it!

  • Jack Black?

  • ocd wins!

  • am I the only one who thought that they were pretty similar? aside from the volume differences

  • great demo; they seem like a team that should both be on board

  • Sounds great for being pedals! Must have something to do with the quality of the amp too.

  • owl go for tender n' juicy

  • if you love Marshall tones, BB is much better

  • from 56 seconds to say 1:02 = the BB is far superior at delivering fat tone.. and then you switch back to the OCD but with a volume boost! WTF! At different volumes of course they sound different. You tweak the OCD a lot more than the BB over the course of the video. Maybe you're biased?

  • I feel like eating steak after watching this....

  • @Backguitar he is running into two true bypass pedals into a doctor z with fulltone chords... You cant get much of a better sound

  • both are awesome pedals... I own them both but use the OCD the most because I really love the FAT - BALLSy tone

  • I would like to loan you my deluxe or twin for this demo. That way you would have a foundation of tone would be as clean as possible. Your Dr. Z , to my ears,it gives your clean tone a strong hint of saturation. IMHO. I like the BB. Rock on.

  • @Backguitar with so many morons commenting, its hard to hear the vid. shhhh

  • @jsabo1929 Yourself included. So up the shut fuck.

  • Dear Gearmanndude sir! :D

Can you make a Fulltone OCD vs Cmatmods Brownie?? cuz thatd be awesome

by the way. u rocks! cheers man

  • ...version most reast :)

  • some videos make the ocd sound sooo good , like this one. but then others make it sound bad.

  • Both awesome pedals. The OCD has a fatter tone.

  • BB preamp yeahh OCD :P

  • The mud that comes in on the OCD around 1:51 can be avoided by backing off the drive and level some and making up the volume with the amp. If I turned my OCD up that much, its alot louder than my amp "clean". I prefer to run my OCD level around 10 o'clock. I have played and like both but the OCD is better suited to my taste, its fatter.

  • Motley Crue Kickstart My Heart

  • I here the guy who runs Fulltone is an asshole. He will charge you for fixing his own defects.

  • My BB got stolen :( RIP BB

  • Awesome demo! just got the ocd and on my way to my dad for a dual with him on his bb preamp :D btw what is the intro song?

  • gotta love the OCD

  • BB all the way!

  • Why do you always use fender amps or dr z's? Why not an ac-15 or an ac-30?

  • @wdjd555 cause thats what he has

  • @nymetsrock thank you smarts.

  • I bought the OCD after seeing this video and regret nothing. Thanks Gearmandude!!!

  • "... And I can't remember what guitar he wanted me to play, so I'm gonna' use a Danelectro 12-string... Hope that's right.".

    :P

  • That extra bottom-end you're hearing from the OCD in my opinion does not tranfer well to certain amps - at least not to my US-made '97 Fender Hot Rod Dlx. This causes the OCD to lose definition on the chunkier settings because that wall of bass is in the way. The only way I can fix this is to cut the bass on my amp, but then I have to compromise my clean-tone (which I love). If the OCD had a bass-control, It would be perfect (for me at least). Therefore, I might try to swap it for a Crunch Box.

  • ocd all the way

  • Can you make a video about the Lovepedal superlead??

  • Comment removed

  • for them to be exactly the same the BB needs some Bass adding to the tone, I think i prefer the BB, seems slightly sweeter and vintage, I think the xotic AC is even nicer than both though

  • I personally like the way the ocd tracks better I think, its looser

  • i have them both!! very amazing pedals. Love them

  • awsum demo mr gearmandude! difinitely I'm getting that juicy and tender bluesy OCD pedal! maybe try to find one of those owl strap and curly coily cables too!

  • No idea why in this test he runs the treble so high on the BB and the bass low. Really you can get the BB everybit as fat and full as the OCD if you tweak the EQ correctly. The BB can sound huge and wide if tweaked correctly.

  • Problem is the OCD can't be used as a TS boost pedal like the BB. What beats both these is the Cusack Screamer.

  • Now throw a Maxon Tube screamer clone & a Marshall Gov'nor or a Rat in there. Oh feel the tension.

  • I own both and I like the BB better.

  • OCD is such a sweet distortion, ringy and harmonic, beefy. It is very versatile as well. I own one, and I use it with the volume up 100% and the gain as low as it can go, with remarkable results. Really something special that OCD. Unique, versatile and worth every penny. Oh, and I run it at 12 volts...another interesting fact...you can run it between 9 and 18 volts with interesting differences between each voltage setting. No 18V converter yet, but 12 is much different over 9. Get one.

  • thanks

  • To me, BB preamp sounds "thinner" than the OCD. Well, not sure if youtube's audio quality is any accurate anyways.. Always best to try them out yourself imo.

  • @clintonpuah i totally agree. BB does sound thinner but whenever I've heard one in person it kicks ass...so does the ocd

  • The thing about the bb preamp is that it's not so much about the sound that makes it beat the ocd, as much as it is the way it reacts and feels. Play it and you'll know what i mean.

  • Hey, what's the name of the music at the beginning?

  • @hugovmonteiro Motley Crue - "Kickstart My Heart."

  • The BB seems like it would sound way clearer with full chords, which is what I'm looking for.

Can anyone recommend any other OD that would sound good with full chords??

  • OCD wins

  • @davidstoklosa hell yeah!

  • they seem very similar to my ears. I would bet with a little tweaking you could get the same sounds from both. It is also hard to tell without being in the room what the truly sound like. I have an OCD and a MI audio Crunch Box and I enjoy using both but I have put the OCD back on my board and have fallen in love with it all over again. I would recommend the OCD because I have a FD2 and a Clyde and never had any issues with any FT products. The MI audio has acted funny making some noise recently

  • OCD sounds nice. BB sounds too raspy

  • IMO, the Xotic is by far the best sounding of the two. Xotic Effects makes great boosterpedals. Germanndude, thanks again for a great review. Your reviews are way better than the ProGuitarShop demoes, and your reviews are very helpful when trying to deside what pedals to buy/ combine. Keep up the good work....and don't ever tell us who you actually are:-)

  • The Owl Strap is the best part of this video.

  • Yeah you kinda need both lol.

  • They both have great tone but the BB is definantly hotter

  • BB is way more transparent - it doesn't mess with the tone as much. If you've got a great guitar, and a great amp (which this guy does!), then you don't want anything getting in the way of it. Good as the OCD is, I just don't like the way it alters to tone to make an OCD overdrive sound. The BB doesn't add any tone colour at all - just boosts what's already there. Love it!

  • BB ain't fucking the sound, OCD ate the guitar tone

  • Crue, very niceee...oh and BB kicks, though I'd love to own both haha

  • I wonder if the uploader gets annoyed of pplz saying he is Jack Black or sounds like him.

  • why do you have them on the pedaltrain with the Modtone power plant if they're both running on batteries?

  • I have the OCD and the BB+ and to my ears, the OCD is much more amp-like in response, in that it responds to pick attack very much like an amp and it doesn't lose any low end like most drive pedals. However, it is almost like a fuzz pedal. There aren't really any "singing mids" and it always retains a crunchy trebly and bassy sort of tone. It works well for sludgy stoner rock chords and doom metal riffs if boosted.

The BB is very silky and great for leads especially in front of a nice delay

  • your clean tone doesn't sound clean to my ears..........your demos and playing are in a class by themselves...gearman dude you rock.................

  • The offspring of Mick Mars and Jack Black...

  • This Guy is Jack Black

  • Real cool sound, this pedals are amazing if you put some tube screeamer the sound will be good too! But its better put ocd , BB , Tube! Amazing soung! Tooo rocky!

  • I got the OCD v3 and I am pleased. It has more balls and volume than the v4.

  • Different beasts really.... You can't really compare them as one is more of an overdrive while the other is a distortion box =)

  • i have the OCD ver 4, its a smooth OD tone. I don't hear a lot of MID with it, which I like. I also think it has a transparent characteristic to it. its my favorite pedal to date. Works well with my Victoria Golden Melody

  • OCD sounds much thicker in comparison to the BB I've never tried the BB preamp but glad i have a OCD... killer pedal!

  • BB PREAMP - sounds louder and very crisp, but a little drier and thinner

OCD V4 - sounds louder and very crisp, bass sounds very tight when played tight and a looser when played loose

***like always, it depends on what other gear you're using, how all of your gear complements/works against each other, what sound you're looking for, how it feels, and what you're willing to pay.***

  • ocd bitch!!!

  • BB is louder

  • the BB just seems so much clearer, even on high gain. I`m definitely getting it... now if only I had the money.

  • to be very honest "not negative" I really think that they both sound pretty disapointing...

  • Nice demo as always! I'm thinking about getting wampler plextortion but this OCD V4 sounds very pleasing to me. How does it compare to the plextortion? Which one has more gain? Which one do you like?

  • Hey so ive got a mesa boogie express and im using a boss bd 2 to boost the amp. im thinking about replacing the bd 2 with something else. so between these two, and a tube screamer, which would be the best? thanks

ive also heard that the wampler ecstasy drive is good

  • @thebridge94 you mean gain boost? or volume boost? for gain I recommend inexpensive digitech bad monkey which is very warm, sweet, and transparent sounding pedal. for volume, xotic RC booster. RC doesn't alter your guitar tone it adds fullness to your tone. I'm pretty sure your mesa express is fine without any help of pedal but if you need just slight more gain on top of what you have, then monkey is it.

  • wara dick. typical yank

  • Despite the OCD has more bottom end, I think BB cuts through the mix in a band way better, cause it works in the right frequencies for a guitar. Let the bass do the lows. If you're playing alone, maybe the OCD is better.

  • Dear Gear Man Dude,

are you Jack Black? You sure sounds like him..

  • Dear Gear Man Dude,

are you Jack Black? You sure sounds like him..

  • Dear Gear Man Dude,

Can you please tune your guitar?

  • I want both too... thanks!

  • I like them both stacked!

  • The thing is if you compare the 4 different versions of the OCD, the 4th is noticably flatter and thinner. There's a comparison vid on here somewhere, the difference between the first 3 and the 4th is a huge back step.

  • @Cordoloinar Of course it sound thin here, the ocd volume is lesser than the BB's.

Dear gearmanndude, it would be great if you would redo this and the OCD's comparison videos with the V4's volume set as loud as the other version. It would be only fair

  • @firsel You missed my point. I was talking of the differences between the 4 versions of the OCD and how the 4th version (as used in this vid) was noticably thinner than previous models.

  • @Cordoloinar I understood what you meant, and as I said, in the OCD differences video the knobs were set the same, but because of the different volume pot the V4's volume was lower than the other three.

  • @firsel Ah i get it. Even though the dials are set the same, they've changed the volume pot in producing the 4th version. My bad.

  • I really want to like the OCD more... but the BB is better

  • Thanks for the video.

  • the bb just sounds more punchy and natural

  • what would you guys think if a BB was coupled with a tubescreamer?

  • @pureoffering7 coupled with a tube screamer kills the bass. I have been using an ac booster with a bb preamp. Much better. would like to try an RC. also look at the Suhr shiba drive with a suhr koko boost. pretty cool stuff

  • Not sure what's going on hear but my BB beat out the OCD, Hellbender and others for a spot on my pedal board. This vid doesn't do it justice but maybe it just goes well with my Marshall amps...

  • i would use the bb as a boost, where as the ocd can be powerful enough to use on its own

  • Which sound sbest into an already medium gainy amp like a Plexi or VHT ST/Deliverance? I LOVE my BB but want to try the OCD.

  • Hello, very nice comparison, if you can ask for a comparison of GT 500 vs. OCD very please because I do not know which to choose. Peter

  • BB: thin

    OCD: all meat!

  • BB: thin. OCD: all meat!

  • I have a BB & really love it for making the lead channel on my Lonestar wail. It does a nice clean boost on the clean ch but I'm sure there are pedals out there that do that better. It does a nice OD rhythm sound too. I like different settings depending on which channel I'm on.

I know Scott Henderson uses his on the clean channel for lead with Vol 2 o'clock, Gain 2, Treb 11, Bass 2. For Buckers back V+G to 12. On lead channel V+G 10 o'clock. As boost have V maxed and G at 8 o'clock.

  • I still can't decide which one to buy??? great demo!

  • Killer shoes.

    Nice pedals, as well.

    :-)

  • I like the OCD for the fact it brings out the creaminess of the SG/Gibson sound. Also, my AC Booster seems to have way more bottom on it than the BB - from what I'm hearing here. That said, I just tried out a BB-MB last week and it rocks in a very Marshall like way and certainly gave a creamy sound to my Firebird with enough bottom end, too. I didn't have time to A/B with my Ver2 OCD tho.

  • BB all the way. The OCD always sounds a bit unnatural and muffled to me.
