Please, kids insult their teachers and the school facility all the time. If they don't want to show respect to their elders, they don't deserve any respect either.
@DarthCadeous501 Derp Derp, its on the older generation to steer the young ones, older people keep trying to play this blame game when its all their fault, they need to buck up and be better peers. Kids are blank slates, they learn from the older people. No one to blame but thereselves.
many times that is true though. many kids are stupid and lazy. its most offensive when its your kid and you know deep inside that its true.. so you raise a racker over it. Those parents who know their kids are not stupid nor lazy have no problems.
The main problem here is that parents have the delusional belief that their kids are the smartest ones in school even if they are borderline retarded and anyone who tells them the truth must be a hateful liar.
Those people should get some fucking perspective. Fact is that a lot of kids are either stupid or lazy or both and noone should be in trouble for stating this fact. Only in America could a principal or any other school employee be fired or demoted for shit like this.
A little heavy-handed, but a joke. Parents take no part in the blame. They are not active with their children's education OR their upbringing. It is their responsibility to see how the teacher's are doing their job not just the principal's job.
@blupheonix44 You can thank public schools, teachers' unions, MTV, Hollyweird, rock music, the whole rap/hip-hop industry, stupid parents, and liberalism in general and everything that's ever spawned from it. The only thing today's young people are good for is killing mudscum in the middle east. No wonder we're losing jobs to the gooks and dotheads.
What if your kids are really idiots or lazy, and you're just a parent so you can't face the truth. Try it with your kids. Ask them to sing a song that they like, or a couple, and then ask them to do a math problem. If they can sing an entire song but can't do a math problem on their grade level then they are idiots and lazy. And you as the parent are the reason for it.
I've heard a faculty member talking about his class. He said 'they're a bunch of dim bulbs'. Was it rude? Maybe... But I would guess there some basis in truth.
i dont understand how anyone can take that seriously. if you do it only means that you are afraid that your child really is stupid or lazy and hate on the guy for pointing it out. otherwise it wouldnt bother you at all and have your kid show him how lazy and stupid it really is (namely not stupid at all).
youve got some pretty backwards people in the us folks. must be really hard living in that country.
Quite frankly, I think parents need to wake up. If you're kid is not doing well in school, obviously you need to push them harder to study and do their homework while you help them along the way.
It really isn't the kids that are stupid and lazy; it's the parents for not working with their kids for them to become successful. Instead they rather send them to Sylvan Learning Centers than help their own kids because either they're A.) lazy or B.) stupid.
It depends where you live in this world over in Nigeria where I went to school for a bit they beat the children and I'm not talking a hand beaten I'm talking about using belts and whips to beat you and get you in order LOL. No wonder why the kids are more well behaved and learn more in africa countries.
Parents, your kids aren't precious. Nobody wants to care for your kids. Have a problem with the idea? Tough! Do a better goddamn job raising them so no one else must.
think about the kids who are actually having a hard time with simple math. we all know people who try hard to understand math, but they just cant do it. sending a letter like that may be accurate for some student who really are lazy, but calling some students who actually try and cant handle it stupid or lazy idiots is completely unacceptable.
Words like "stupid" can't be ignored. If the teacher hasn't used it, someone else would. They may use their own expression, possibly worse.
The worst expression are euphemisms- using terms to mask an issue's severity. Saying "mathematically-challeneged" or an exaggeratedly named disability as opposed to "dumb at math".
That's not protecting the kid or his/her parents. Face the proof & be literal: "he's stupid so help him!".
@Efferts; I'm glad someone has the stones to say what we all know. I agree with you that a lot of "learning disabilities" aren't legitimate, but some are. Dyslexia, for example. Being politically correct just means being too polite to say anything and letting a problem get worse.
Fuck political correctness. Im saying that it is just plain arrogant and hurtful to call someone an idiot just because they cant learn as quickly. Are most students lazy? Of course. Are some students stupid and dont give a shit? Definitely. But that doesnt mean you call all of them who suck at school idiots, because that includes the kids who ARE trying.
You help the kids who have disabilities. Duh. But you dont call them stupid and THEN try to help them. That is immature and being an asshole.
The fact is unless they have a learning disability, stupid or lazy is the only other explanation. Parents are so egotistical they refuse to believe their kid is dumb and stick to their guns. They'll say some shit like "He has ADD", or "He suffers from anti-motivational syndrome" (laziness). No one wants to believe their kid is just another drop in the idiot ocean. If we made it so stupid people can't breed, the world would be a much better place.
I don't buy "learning disability" 'cuz it seems before the 90's kids were just "dumb, lazy, & troublesome". Now they're "attention deficit" or "depressed". Parents are admitting kids to shrinks & pills. We've forgotten what supposedly is typical child conduct.
They rebel. They get lazy. They decline to learn. They act goofy. They can't keep still. They don't focus. They lash out. All of the sudden these traits are disorders? WTF?
EVEN IF that guy REALLY believed his students where lazy or stupid, i STILL say let him go. Thats his opinon and he is welcome to it, it says nothinh about the quality of his job.
I know this guy. He is a great guy and really was committed to his school and students. It was a joke! I have no idea what happened to the teacher who was either really dumb to not know it was a joke or really smart for hosing the guy. He really should have gotten a reprimand and that's it. It's bad to lose a great principal over this.
Yeah, I understand... When I said "call them stupid and lazy" I didn't actually mean to do that, I was exaggerating.... It does suck being called that, but that doesn't mean that you should completely ignore the problem and act like everyone is the same, and ignore the big elephant in the room that is shouting that kids are retarded and lazy... Trust me, I know, I'm sure you remember your high school days...
The sad truth is that smart, educated people who can provide for their children have very few kids. Uneducated people tend to have a lot of kids. The results of this is more and more stupid, lazy kids - just like their parents.
If a kid is stupid and lazy, you call him stupid and lazy... Stop being a pussy and be HONEST... constructive criticism goes a long way... Stop being politically correct, holy shit...
If a child is stupid calling them stupid isn't going to help them at all. Most of the time children struggling in school feel guilty and self conscious about their grades.Hurting their feelings isn't going to serve any purpose so why bother? I have met allot of stupid but very sweet children. Now if you are lazy that IS something that can be changed.
Exactly. This is just more pathetic liberal molly cuddling from the parents. Most kids need a good kick up the ass now and again to get them back on track. No wonder kids (especially boys) are becoming such fanooks.
Honestly, I kinda agree with the guy. A lot of kids are lazy and stupid. The problem is that kids don't want to learn. I remember in grade school how everyone complained about basic algebra and how they didn't need to know it for the "real world." Then they get to the "real world" and realize that algebra is used everyday in all kinds of vocations. Parents are to blame, too, because they're more concerned with their kid's grades then how much they're learning.
ah see i was abused by my teachers in front of the class all the time. i've been on the serious side of this issue. the teaches took me down and then the kids, in turn, took me down even worse.
so i'm very disinclined to let this teacher off the hook here. i don't think he should be fired because he was joking and didn't mean to send this out, but i don't think anything like this should be taken lightly.
they just verbally abused me and belittled me, and on that precedent everyone else thought it was okay to treat me badly. it ruined my confidence, which projected all the way through junior high and high school.
you also have to wonder if the kids will ever respect him properly again. no doubt most parents will have had their go at him over dinner and whatnot. in this way it might be better for him to at least be transferred to some other school.
So your lack of self-respect is the teacher's fault? You let the kids walk all over you because of the TEACHER? Don't get me wrong, the teacher is the primary example setter in the classroom. But at what point did you tell your rotten classmates to fuck off? When did you own it?
At the end of the day, a grown man doesn't need a kid's respect. At some point, the kids are gonna have to take ownership of their own educations. If they don't wanna be called stupid & lazy, they must SHOW something.
nah, dude, see that's not what i'm saying. it wasn't just one teacher. i had a bit of a learning disability and it was really difficult to do my school work during class. it's very insensitive for you to just say that i was a pussy kid and didn't stand up for myself.
see, all these teachers kind of blacklisted me and labelled me as a troubled kid but really i just had a hard time keeping on task. all it would have taken was more of a helping hand and some respect and challenge.
Having a learning disability isn't your fault. Being mistreated by your teachers wasn't your fault either. But letting other kids make sport of you then allowing yourself to be victimized all the way through IS partially your fault. Yes, you were being a pussy if you let a classmate; someone who wielded no power over you, shit on you. No ifs, ands or buts. You were a pussy.
At the end of the day, you have all this 2020 hindsight but a no point did you OWN it. That's my issue.
see, them telling me i was a bad student and was hopeless made an impact on me and my perception of self-worth. then the kids treated me like shit, and on top of it all i knew it was hard for me to do my work, and i hated myself for it.
i'm saying it's a sick cycle, and you can't expect every kid in school to be rambo and have to go out there and fight tooth and nail for his or her respect. you knew you were smart, but i didn't.
I'm sure your parents gave you a sense of self worth. I'm sure your friends & siblings did the same. The last time I checked, even retarded kids make friends. Even retarded kids are capable of love & being loved. At the end of the day, it doesn't matter how smart you are. Having a high IQ is kinda like being tall in basketball: it's an implied advantage but it comes down to the work you put in.
And I truly feel for you. I regret your bad experience. My own situation is unique in that my father is an educator & my mother spent much of her time in school whilst I was in school. Couple that with an inherent degree of intellectual curiosity & you get me.
But I disagree that as a teacher, I can't expect a kid to be Rambo. Every kid has a little Rambo in him.
I don't exactly approve of the principal's wording but he's looking for their inner Rambos.
I had more than my share of issues with more than my share of teachers. Often times they got mad when they realized I was smarter than them. They tried to belittle me but it never worked. I'd've been damned if the teacher tried to shit on me then the students think it was cool. Simply put, I fought... a LOT.
But you're blaming 1 teacher for the outcome of your entire career (primary AND secondary) for the actions of a few teachers? That's counter-intuitive.
you know what? you're a fucking douche bag. just because you had the solidarity to make it out okay doesn't mean everyone does. creating a system where this kind of stuff is excusable in no way benefits the learning system.
maybe at some point in time during your whole bad ass "i'm a champion and no one can touch me" youth, you forgot how to feel, dude.
I'm a fucking douche bag. Guilty as charged. But I'd rather be an asshole than a pussy. Yes. I had some solidarity & personal strength. Yes, I have a mean streak too. But as a teacher, I'm in the business of letting kids know that they're champions. It's a battle. It's a battle against all the negative forces that can do you in. In a foxhole, do you whip out the guitar, fire up the marshmallows & sing "Kum Baya"? Or do you rally the troops by not-always-kind means? America needs more Rambos.
i'm not blaming people. i'm saying that kids aren't always on top of shit when they're young. you were lucky, and in all honesty you don't know everything i went through as a kid, so you can take that "you're a pussy" and shove it up your ass.
kids need help. you can't expect EVERY CHILD to power-house their way through opposition like you obviously did.
Here's the deal: you can't be blamed for what teachers tried to do to you. But letting classmates shit on you is inexcusable.
My point is that EVERY CHILD has the ability to powerhouse his way through opposition. I'm the son of a sharecropper & an orphan. I descended from slaves, Native Americans & Irish immigrants. That's my legacy. It's a very American legacy.
Don't tell me what a child can't do. I've seen too many examples where they can & do. I can't tolerate low bars for my future.
i disagree with you on the fact that children can't be told that they're stupid and lazy. maybe that works for some, maybe that brings out the fight and the rambo in them, but not for all. if you think "hey, 98 percent of my kids respond with defiance and do their best when i say they're being stupid." that's perfectly legitimate.
Here's a nuance you're missing. I hate to allude to your learning disability but that's part of your problem here. You're not an active listener for starters. The principal never said a thing to the kids. The principal's letter, which was intended for internal staff, was sent to parents.
Passive listening IS lazy because it's like you're letting something happen to you instead of seizing the reigns.
yeah i get that whole part of the issue. maybe my original comment wasn't composed well enough, but his example gets out to the teachers. i don't think it's a joking matter. it's not something that i feel can be tolerated. do we steep to the point of overprotection? should every child have the false opinion that the sun shines from his anus? no.
but i do not think that our system should allow for the tenure of a teacher who is bitter, intolerant, judgmental, and willing to, without discrimination, write off the abilities of his or her pupils.
i hate to elude to your race here, but in your years, surely you must have encountered educators who are of ill-fit disposition and mindset to effectively teach and value all of the children which they are charged to educate.
I definitely had my share of bad teachers. In fact, we can always remember the names of our worst & best teachers. It's the 1s in the middle that we always forget. But I dare say that, while I got well beyond their subject matter, I may have learned more from the bad teachers.
should there be pressure on teachers as well as students to take their role seriously?
DEFINITELY. what one teacher will interpret as a joke, another teacher will take as positive reinforcement for intolerance and discrimination. in short: laziness and stupidity.
that is my stance on that.
and as for asia vs american education? welcome to right wing nationalism, the military industrial complex and the capitalist assumption of "as long as he makes money and buys a house and two cars"
i was one of the two percent that didn't. maybe i was a pussy, or maybe i just didn't understand the system. maybe i just needed a little extra help and understanding.
you go get that two percent, because the education system failed to bring out my rambo. i am an intelligent individual and now that i've come to get a handle on myself, i know i'm going to go far. i do not allow low expectations for myself.
While I applaud the leaps & bounds you've made, I must simply ask if you've ever taught. Of course, it's your business. Of course you're allowed to opine because it affects us all. However, you must understand the desperate battle we're in.
Most of Asia is kicking our asses academically because we're pussifying our kids. Zero tolerance rules are extinguishing judgment & critical thought. Instead of putting resources into education, most gov'ts, state & federal, are cutting resources
And no, I can't settle for less. If they fail then I fail. But worst of all, the next generation fails & eventually the country fails. Cal me a socialist but I believe in collective responsibility as well as personal accountability. I'd like to think that parents are as concerned about their kids' education as I am. But all too often I'm proven wrong about that. They're more concerned about their kids getting butthurt than about their kids reading level.
This Principal has to know he's going down. So, if I was him, I would defend my actions to the fullest. I would yell it from the mountaintops (i.e., CNN, Fox News, MSNBC, etc.). Because he's only saying what a majority of people already believe. Kids are dumb and lazy. Now, is that a fault of the parents, the teachers or the kids? Probably a combination of all three. But at least get the dialogue going.
But that's probably a bad move career-wise. I'm saying this from an outsider's perspective.
Fire that principal! That's completely unacceptable. This fool sent out documents from his office that shows a callous disregard for his position and his charges.
Students are unmotivated by inappropriate teaching methods and poor, overworked parents.
Really? Have you ever taught school? I have. I taught math at a public high school in Chicago. I've in a college prep program. In addition to coaching there, I also taught at a "last chance" high school here in Denver. This country's intelligentsia is declining because parents aren't kicking their kids in the ass & the parents are getting pissed when teachers kick them in the ass. Sure, nobody wants our students to fail but nobody wants to do the necessary work to ensure success.
Firing a low level administrator ain't gonna fix shit. Parents & teachers need to get on the same page and STAY ON THESE KIDS' ASSES. If there's time to program iPods, got to the mall, play sports, play Xbox & watch 300 cable channels, there's time for homework. But the REALITY is that more than 1/2 of hs graduates (given a 30-40% dropout rate already) aren't ready for college math. Why? No commitment.
For AZ to be the 15th most populated state, why aren't the ACT composites close to MA?
There've been some studies that suggest that nut allergies have been a result of overprotection, and not allowing kids to be exposed to things that may otherwise immunize them.
And I've gotta say, there are a lot of things wrong with schools these days, primarily on the funding and where they lie on political priorities, but another part of it is that there are a lot of kids that see stupidity being rewarded, and see that it's cool, and don't want to be smart. We need to reward intelligence more
As someone with a diagnosed learning disability that went undiagnosed for most of my entire high school education because teachers thought I was 'lazy' this is really not an amusing story to me.... even if it was a joke. Lame.
A principal who jokes about his students being stupid? I don't care if it was sent out to parents or not...the viewpoint itself is completely unprofessional and shows me personally that there's a strong possibility this principal is a dick and doesn't really care about the success of his students.
I bet my ass the kid WAS stupid & lazy and had it coming. The parents better get their kid back on track, instead of taking revenge on the principal for their own failure as parents.
but they really ARE stupid and lazy ... and inept ... and in the famous words of rahm emmanuel, effin' retarded! ... I should know, I'm stuck not able to hire anyone to help run my business because after 5 years and 35 morons i finally gave up trying ... the product of our culture speaks for itself and i stand testimony that americans are hands down the MOST unemployable populace on the entire planet.
$10-13/hr after tax cash. i gave them all the hours they wanted and hired them 2 or 3 to a shift. shit wasnt gettin done, i still had to come in to do their work. they gave me nothing but smartass lip and backtalk. i hope this economy teaches them a lesson. they need to beaten down by starvation.
for the record i am a single owner/operator of a liquor store and I feature independant labels, not big rollout stuff ... not quite the "corporate whore"
cory, you are an arrogant infant, and you speak just like an insolent child. your immaturity comes screaming through. i wouldn't trust you to make a grilled cheese sandwich let alone come anywhere near my business. i hope you get used to living off food stamps. you are a classic example of the unemployable nature of this current generation of workers.
I dont see my last reply here ... I dont know if it posted. i was paying 10-13/hr after tax cash too. also gave them plenty of help, and hired them 2 or 3 to a shift. shit wasnt gettin done, i still had to come on my day off to do their work. they still gave me nothing but smartass lip and backtalk. i even gave them more hours and they didnt want them. fucking god damn assholes. unemployable motherfuckers. i hope this economy teaches them a lesson. they need to beaten down by starvation.
Personally, I don't think it's bad when a teacher tells his/her students' parents that the student is lazy. It convinces the parents to make the student work harder. But when you say the student is stupid, not only is that an insult, but it gives the notion that they ARE stupid. As in they are genetically stupid. That's not acceptable, especially from a teacher.
I taught for 8 years in Istanbul, the most damaging thing to education in a school is the attitude of the teachers towards the students. If they think the kids are worthless, then why will they put forth any effort into their education? This principal with his innocent joke just gave all the teachers in his school permission to stop caring and give up on being good teachers.
if this was in some other country i might say he was wrong, but the sad fact of the matter is that the american school system is in shambles. for being a superpower of the world and being ranked one of the lowest in the western world is just sad. kids in india and china are doing calculus in junior high, in the US most college fresmen don't even place into calculus, highschool kids in the inner cities are the worst off & barely read at a sixth grade level. we need a major overhaul of education
I know you probably think it's just "political correctness gone mad!" or something but when you really think about it it's unfair to dismiss a child as stupid or lazy when they aren't doing well in school. A child may be falsely perceived as lazy or stupid when in fact they have a learning disability of some kind. Or maybe they just don't do well in one area but are perfectly intelligent when it comes to other subjects. TL;DR? Not understanding 'easy' maths =/= stupid or lazy.
actualy its the parents who are lazy and stupid who fall for the republicans idotic tax reduction ideas..
the schools need money and private schools are inherently unfair as it means the ritch kids who have done nothing to deserve special treatment other then being born ritch get the good education while everyone else gets hosed!
if parents dont stand up for the schools then they are fucking retarted!
also the principle is probably a dusbag though cos he should be calling the paretns names!
There is a major flaw with your comment: Not all private schools are good.
While there is a connotation of private schools being expensive uptight mini-Ivy Leagues, the truth is only a few are.
Unlike public schools, private schools are not bound by any state education guidelines. Therefore, students can be undertaught and the schools wouldn't get in trouble for it.
Start teaching kids how to add in the sixth grade, public school teacher gets fired while private school teacher might not.
A lot of children are stupid and far more are lazy. So he calls it as it is. What should he call them? Geniuses and hard workers? A lot of schools now have a policy that no child can fail. So they'll be raised to have no sense of accountability or work ethic. And when they starve to death because no employer wants to employ their pampered ass, I guess they can die with a smile knowing their fourth grade math teacher gave them an automatic pass.
Why is it modern day parents are narcissistic and hypersensitive? They should STFU, take their xanax, and escort their precious little brats to school in their armored personnel carriers. Nothing is too good for these spoiled little primates.
QUESTION: If your kid is a lazy student and their grades are a reflection of their laziness, should a teacher say in the school report, "Johnny is lazy in class and this is reflected in his poor grades."
I think It's a shared responsibility between the unbright senseless principal who actually wrote that paper and the teacher who was ignorant enough to send it to the kid's parents! I think both should be fired. And calling a little kid "stupid" only gonna destroy his self-confidence. In my opinion, if the teacher and the principal both not qualified to work with kids in elementary schools, then they shouldn't.
why is this a problem if my kid is dumb or lazy i wanna know that. i cant belive telling the truth get you fired and bad management of the schoole dont :S
When you go into education you make fuck all but it's because you want to help children, so I can see it getting frustrating if most of them aren't trying.
I go to the same state as this school and I read it in the newspaper. I shared it with the class I had to read the newspaper in; everyone thought it was funny. =P The principal was being sarcastic and only sent the letters home with students who did not finish their work in class.
He is clearly an asshole and an incompetent. You don't demean the students like that and send the letter home to their taxpaying parents. Mistake, joke, whatever. The only mistake was hiring this asshole and the only joke is what will be left of his career as an educator, IMO.
What’s so bad about the truth?

i dont understand how anyone can take that seriously. if you do it only means that you are afraid that your child really is stupid or lazy and hate on the guy for pointing it out. otherwise it wouldnt bother you at all and have your kid show him how lazy and stupid it really is (namely not stupid at all).
youve got some pretty backwards people in the us folks. must be really hard living in that country.
playgrrrr 2 years ago
Quite frankly, I think parents need to wake up. If you're kid is not doing well in school, obviously you need to push them harder to study and do their homework while you help them along the way.
It really isn't the kids that are stupid and lazy; it's the parents for not working with their kids for them to become successful. Instead they rather send them to Sylvan Learning Centers than help their own kids because either they're A.) lazy or B.) stupid.

It depends where you live in this world over in Nigeria where I went to school for a bit they beat the children and I'm not talking a hand beaten I'm talking about using belts and whips to beat you and get you in order LOL. think about the kids who are actually having a hard time with simple math. we all know people who try hard to understand math, but they just cant do it. sending a letter like that may be accurate for some student who really are lazy, but calling some students who actually try and cant handle it stupid or lazy idiots is completely unacceptable.

adf590 2 years ago
Words like "stupid" can't be ignored. If the teacher hasn't used it, someone else would. They may use their own expression, possibly worse.
The worst expression are euphemisms- using terms to mask an issue's severity. Saying "mathematically-challeneged" or an exaggeratedly named disability as opposed to "dumb at math".
That's not protecting the kid or his/her parents. Face the proof & be literal: "he's stupid so help him!".
Efferts 2 years ago
@Efferts; I'm glad someone has the stones to say what we all know. I agree with you that a lot of "learning disabilities" aren't legitimate, but some are. Dyslexia, for example. Being politically correct just means being too polite to say anything and letting a problem get worse.
blackkakari 2 years ago
Sadly a lot of folks feel more threatened by the term than the deficiency.
Like the phenomenon that words hurt more than rape or murder.
I can't stand that.
Efferts 2 years ago
Fuck political correctness. Im saying that it is just plain arrogant and hurtful to call someone an idiot just because they cant learn as quickly. Are most students lazy? Of course. Are some students stupid and dont give a shit? Definitely. But that doesnt mean you call all of them who suck at school idiots, because that includes the kids who ARE trying.
You help the kids who have disabilities. Duh. But you dont call them stupid and THEN try to help them. That is immature and being an asshole.
InfiniteGXT 2 years ago
The problem started when parents regarded a child's misbehavior or lack of skill a "disability".
When I was raised, it was typical & expected conduct, not "disorders" you folks are fooled to oblige.
Dyslexia's one thing. ADHD, restless leg, & other bullshit excuses for "stupid" is a different story.
"Stupid" wasn't vilified until folks like yourself forgot that Americans used to grow a pair.
I don't mean to be rude, but seriously: develop yourself. Grow a pair.

If we made it so stupid people can't breed, the world would be a much better place.
blackkakari 2 years ago 2
I don't buy "learning disability" 'cuz it seems before the 90's kids were just "dumb, lazy, & troublesome". Now they're "attention deficit" or "depressed". Parents are admitting kids to shrinks & pills. We've forgotten what supposedly is typical child conduct.
They rebel. They get lazy. They decline to learn. They act goofy. They can't keep still. They don't focus. They lash out. All of the sudden these traits are disorders? WTF?

OBLIVIOUSavior 2 years ago
@OBLIVIOUSavior Define "abused".
upabittoolate 2 years ago
they just verbally abused me and belittled me, and on that precedent everyone else thought it was okay to treat me badly. it ruined my confidence, which projected all the way through junior high and high school.
you also have to wonder if the kids will ever respect him properly again. no doubt most parents will have had their go at him over dinner and whatnot. in this way it might be better for him to at least be transferred to some other school.
but i agree he shouldn't be fired.
OBLIVIOUSavior 2 years ago
So your lack of self-respect is the teacher's fault? You let the kids walk all over you because of the TEACHER? Don't get me wrong, the teacher is the primary example setter in the classroom. But at what point did you tell your rotten classmates to fuck off? When did you own it?
At the end of the day, a grown man doesn't need a kid's respect. At some point, the kids are gonna have to take ownership of their own educations. If they don't wanna be called stupid & lazy, they must SHOW something.
upabittoolate 2 years ago
nah, dude, see that's not what i'm saying. it wasn't just one teacher. i had a bit of a learning disability and it was really difficult to do my school work during class. it's very insensitive for you to just say that i was a pussy kid and didn't stand up for myself.
see, all these teachers kind of blacklisted me and labelled me as a troubled kid but really i just had a hard time keeping on task. all it would have taken was more of a helping hand and some respect and challenge.
OBLIVIOUSavior 2 years ago
Having a learning disability isn't your fault. Being mistreated by your teachers wasn't your fault either. But letting other kids make sport of you then allowing yourself to be victimized all the way through IS partially your fault. Yes, you were being a pussy if you let a classmate; someone who wielded no power over you, shit on you. No ifs, ands or buts. You were a pussy.
At the end of the day, you have all this 2020 hindsight but a no point did you OWN it. That's my issue.
upabittoolate 2 years ago
see, them telling me i was a bad student and was hopeless made an impact on me and my perception of self-worth. then the kids treated me like shit, and on top of it all i knew it was hard for me to do my work, and i hated myself for it.
i'm saying it's a sick cycle, and you can't expect every kid in school to be rambo and have to go out there and fight tooth and nail for his or her respect. you knew you were smart, but i didn't.
there can't be stuff like this happening.
OBLIVIOUSavior 2 years ago
I'm sure your parents gave you a sense of self worth. I'm sure your friends & siblings did the same. The last time I checked, even retarded kids make friends. Even retarded kids are capable of love & being loved. At the end of the day, it doesn't matter how smart you are. Having a high IQ is kinda like being tall in basketball: it's an implied advantage but it comes down to the work you put in.
upabittoolate 2 years ago
And I truly feel for you. I regret your bad experience. My own situation is unique in that my father is an educator & my mother spent much of her time in school whilst I was in school. Couple that with an inherent degree of intellectual curiosity & you get me.
But I disagree that as a teacher, I can't expect a kid to be Rambo. Every kid has a little Rambo in him.
I don't exactly approve of the principal's wording but he's looking for their inner Rambos.
upabittoolate 2 years ago
I had more than my share of issues with more than my share of teachers. Often times they got mad when they realized I was smarter than them. They tried to belittle me but it never worked. I'd've been damned if the teacher tried to shit on me then the students think it was cool. Simply put, I fought... a LOT.
But you're blaming 1 teacher for the outcome of your entire career (primary AND secondary) for the actions of a few teachers? That's counter-intuitive.
upabittoolate 2 years ago
you know what? you're a fucking douche bag. just because you had the solidarity to make it out okay doesn't mean everyone does. creating a system where this kind of stuff is excusable in no way benefits the learning system.
maybe at some point in time during your whole bad ass "i'm a champion and no one can touch me" youth, you forgot how to feel, dude.
OBLIVIOUSavior 2 years ago
I'm a fucking douche bag. Guilty as charged. But I'd rather be an asshole than a pussy. Yes. I had some solidarity & personal strength. Yes, I have a mean streak too. But as a teacher, I'm in the business of letting kids know that they're champions. It's a battle. It's a battle against all the negative forces that can do you in. In a foxhole, do you whip out the guitar, fire up the marshmallows & sing "Kum Baya"? Or do you rally the troops by not-always-kind means? America needs more Rambos.
upabittoolate 2 years ago
i'm not blaming people. i'm saying that kids aren't always on top of shit when they're young. you were lucky, and in all honesty you don't know everything i went through as a kid, so you can take that "you're a pussy" and shove it up your ass.
kids need help. you can't expect EVERY CHILD to power-house their way through opposition like you obviously did.
OBLIVIOUSavior 2 years ago
Here's the deal: you can't be blamed for what teachers tried to do to you. But letting classmates shit on you is inexcusable.
My point is that EVERY CHILD has the ability to powerhouse his way through opposition. I'm the son of a sharecropper & an orphan. I descended from slaves, Native Americans & Irish immigrants. That's my legacy. It's a very American legacy.
Don't tell me what a child can't do. I've seen too many examples where they can & do. I can't tolerate low bars for my future.
upabittoolate 2 years ago
honestly: that's great. respect where it's due.
i disagree with you on the fact that children can't be told that they're stupid and lazy. maybe that works for some, maybe that brings out the fight and the rambo in them, but not for all. if you think "hey, 98 percent of my kids respond with defiance and do their best when i say they're being stupid." that's perfectly legitimate.
OBLIVIOUSavior 2 years ago
Here's a nuance you're missing. I hate to allude to your learning disability but that's part of your problem here. You're not an active listener for starters. The principal never said a thing to the kids. The principal's letter, which was intended for internal staff, was sent to parents.
Passive listening IS lazy because it's like you're letting something happen to you instead of seizing the reigns.
(cont)
upabittoolate 2 years ago
yeah i get that whole part of the issue. maybe my original comment wasn't composed well enough, but his example gets out to the teachers. i don't think it's a joking matter. it's not something that i feel can be tolerated. do we steep to the point of overprotection? should every child have the false opinion that the sun shines from his anus? no.
cont.
OBLIVIOUSavior 2 years ago
but i do not think that our system should allow for the tenure of a teacher who is bitter, intolerant, judgmental, and willing to, without discrimination, write off the abilities of his or her pupils.

Instead of putting resources into education, most gov'ts, state & federal, are cutting resources
upabittoolate 2 years ago
if you're so excellence oriented, go in for that two percent and don't settle for any less.
no child is stupid. don't let them think they are.
OBLIVIOUSavior 2 years ago
And no, I can't settle for less. If they fail then I fail. But worst of all, the next generation fails & eventually the country fails. Cal me a socialist but I believe in collective responsibility as well as personal accountability. I'd like to think that parents are as concerned about their kids' education as I am. But all too often I'm proven wrong about that. They're more concerned about their kids getting butthurt than about their kids reading level.
Go figure.

Sure, nobody wants our students to fail but nobody wants to do the necessary work to ensure success.
upabittoolate 2 years ago

TL;DR? Not understanding 'easy' maths =/= stupid or lazy.
olliegibbons 2 years ago 2
actualy its the parents who are lazy and stupid who fall for the republicans idotic tax reduction ideas..
the schools need money and private schools are inherently unfair as it means the ritch kids who have done nothing to deserve special treatment other then being born ritch get the good education while everyone else gets hosed!

It could be helpful for parents to know if their kids are stupid or lazy. It's one or the other.

Most of the kids in my math class were lazy rather than stupid.

Everyone says things to satisfy an urge, not to please others. Being insulted is principally misunderstanding what speech is.

Either dock some pay or send him to a comedy class.

He was clearly kidding?
How is that funny? Where's the punch line?
He is clearly an asshole and an incompetent. You don't demean the students like that and send the letter home to their taxpaying parents. Mistake, joke, whatever. The only mistake was hiring this asshole and the only joke is what will be left of his career as an educator, IMO.

I bet a lot of the kids in that school are probably dumb. Kids in this country are getting dumber and dumber by the day. And I'm not joking.

This is the principal. He seen some of the worst of the school. I would give this guy a break.
Also, I am allergic to nuts too. I can't have long exposure to Beck or O'Reilly.
