  • Odds are that you probably already know this....but....you do know that the Alpha Juno IS in fact "touch/velocity sensitive", right? Not on it's own, but if it's MIDI'ed to a controller that IS velocity sensitive, you do have control of the velocity/volume & the filters depending on how hard you press/play the controller's keys. Pretty cool IMO. The Korg Poly-800 doesn't have that ability.

  • About 15 years ago, I traded my Roland D-10 for one if these. I thought it was a good trade. I still have it & I love it!

  • juno-2 wins :PP

  • The prodigy created Charly on this

  • Apparently my dad has one of these stored away in the attic, should i feel lucky?

  • @zwete I suggest if you haven't already, get up there and find out :) While not the most high end synth around, these things can make some great sounds.

  • @kingofkeyboards

Cool, haven't really tried anything analog. I've heard you can program it trough the computer too.

  • nvmd, i hear you get some going around 4-5 min, sounds great, thx for the demo!

  • Is it possible to get moog-like leads and basses on this?

  • does this work with just headphones?

  • @eviljester yes it does. I just picked one up today. Very same model.

  • @destinationstation thanks!

  • For as bad a rap as that alpha dial gets, it looks like an awesome modulation controller. I think I need one of these.

  • süper

  • Mind blown @6:23

  • Have you seen the iPad Editor for Juno? I want this!

  • nice.

  • excellent demo!

  • Is it my imagination or does the juno-1 sound warmer and have better pads, i have juno-2's and they dont sound as good :/

  • When powering on the Alpha JUno (HS10, Juno2) hold the OCT TRANSPOSE DOWN button, and TUNE/FUNCTION button to acces Unison Mode when the Chord Memory button is on! the screen will read $ADJ/INS MODE!!!. The 4 Tone Modify buttons will now serve differnet purposes, 2 additional patches ("Sine Wave, and "Basic Wave") will be the Mod depth, and Env time. The Brilliance button will serve as a Key hold button. SWEET!!

  • If you want some custom patches for the Alpha Juno - go to my page musicsoftware.jimdo.com

  • i have the alpha juno 2, its better than this one.

  • @t1mTV lol do you even know the difference beteen the two?

  • @DiederikYBaan juno 2 has more keys and aftertouch. PWNED.

  • @t1mTV I have an alpha 2 aswell, I was more meaning in terms of sound, algorithms and oscillators, there being no difference what so ever, so buyers know that.

  • @DiederikYBaan YOU STILL GOT PWNED NOOB!

  • I have never heard a better sounding analog synth than this:D LOVE IT

  • dear friend, mybe you can help me, I have an Juno1 too, but I thing tehre ist something wrong or like this, if Im playing short and fast so I see very big latenz time between the key touches, why is thi so, I can not playing fastly and groovey becoause its very big latzens by over 20 milliseconds!? I Hope you ore sombody can Help me here : (

  • How does it program through the alpha dial ?

Is it just a matter of selecting the parameter and then scrolling to the preferred value ? Or is it really menu diving ?

Thumbs up for your demo !

  • @Keybern

Under menu, you scroll to a parameter (let's say, LFO speed), then press "value" button to make it editable, at which point you rotate the dial to your preferred value. Not complicated since only one parameter can be displayed on the screen at any time, but definitely not too practical for creating your own sounds (many parameters to tweak!). Luckily, you can hook it up to your computer via MIDI, and use one of the many programs that can edit its parameters and store sounds.

  • wow... this is fantastic ;D

how do you make your little title screen thing? It looks so awesome :3

  • very good video, thank you!

  • Cool Demo Dude! :)

  • nvm im getting both of them there both really cheap lol

  • ....man i cant decide the juno alpha 2 or the korg poly 800..

  • @lvrsnvy both are great, yeah... not an easy choice! good luck!

  • @lvrsnvy Go for the Juno -I've had both. The Poly 800 have only one VCF shared between all the voices, which means retriggering when playing an additional note. However if you modify the Poly-800 with the Moogslayer mod the filter will be much more aggresive than the Juno. But Still I find the Juno much better and it's one of my all time favorites (I've had one Alpha Juno 2 and tree Alpha Juno 1 -still keeping one)

  • @phk70 well i ended up getting an hs-10(alpha) for 75 bucks!!.. but i sold it for 300 and got a ensoniq sq-80 for 200 and now im looking for another hs-10 hopfuly for 100 bucks!!..i will say this about the alpha tho.. it has some crazy long lfo swirls and the bass sounded pretty damn fat on it! but i had to have the sq80 bc it was made by the same guy who made the sid chips in the c64 and atari game systems so it makes some crazy ass sounds and the editing and sequencer is a dream on it!!!

  • love this :)

  • I just bough one of this babies for $17 CDN today --what a happy Monday.

  • @kimowasabe really?? i am jealous!!!!

  • Is there a way to program this without the "programmer"? is the "programmer" external?

  • @Cds56 The PG-300 is an external MIDI device. You can control the Alpha Juno without one, but because of the way you have the alpha wheel as an input, it's impossible to control more than one parameter on the fly without the programmer, or some other kind of external input. These synths still sound great; I just fired mine up again recently and it has this fatness that no new virtulog can match (although it cannot compete with classic analog equipment either).

  • its cool it have chord memory feature . is this the one that have the famous hoover patch?

  • Hey, that sound from 6:09 to 6:11, it would make a sweet techno kick.

  • @gjc82071 Yeah it was used by Joey Beltram for "Mentasm" and then more famously by Human Resource on "Dominator".

  • Whoa, you're getting some great sounds out of that thing! :)

  • can you programm different chord riffs, and can it play with one key ??

  • @TR0jAX no...you can program a chord and play that with one key..there is no sequencing. still a fun feature.

  • does this juno-1 have trumpets??

  • @browxside13 there is a preset called spit valve.

  • If you want programmability, get a MIDI controller. Preferably one with knobs and faders, since the alpha has a keyboard.

    Examples

    Behringer BCR2000 or BCF2000

    M-Audio Evolution U-Control

  • @lfar666 the u-control doesn't send out programmable sysex..so you would need a computer inbetween to convert the ccs to sysex.

  • @0e0 thanks for the info! yeah i am getting the bcr2000 :] should be way funner to play with all the knobs.

  • Will you be offering patches for this synth as well?

    ;)

  • The most underrated synth of the Juno family!

  • but used in almost every rave or hardcore-track in the 90´s ;)

  • 8 DCOs on this board?

  • WANT :'(

  • I have the Juno 1 and can say I love its architecture, however I would say it's a little bit of pain to program as you have to have either the physical programmer or the PC/Mac control. I'm looking for an environment for Logic but haven't found one anywhere

  • The alpha juno is a very underated synth, sounds like a juno 60 but without the real time controls unless u have the programmer, it's a lot cheaper though, Nice demo!!!! needs some reverb though just to make it sound even better, great stuff!!!!

  • thanks... but sorry, it doesn't sound like a Juno-60 - this sounds much better.

The best Juno sounds delivers a Juno-60 / Juno-6. Fater basic sound and snappier envelopes.

The Alpha Juno's basic sound is rather comparable with the Juno-106 - it has a typical sound for the later Juno's.

  • Do you prefer the Alpha Juno over the Korg Poly 800?

  • @maccagrabme I would prefer a Poly-800 MK 1 - because I'm more familiar with it, it's easier to program and it has 2 DCO's per voice instead of one. And I like the sound of the filter more than the Alpha Juno's one.

Both are good instruments, it's a matter of taste.

  • Great synth! I have both, so no need to choose! :-)

The Polly 800 was my 1st keyboard. My mom bought it new for me when I was 13yo. The Juno, I traded a Roland D-10 for. BTW, anybody think that was a fair trade? Also consider i had a Korg M1 @ the time, so didn't really need the D-10. BTW this keyboard by itself is NOT touch sensitive. BUT if you MIDI it to something that is, it recognizes & responds to after touch/velocity sensitivity, etc. That, is AWESOME! Poly 800 doesn't do that.

  • Amazing sounds! Very nice quality like sauermusic mentioned :o

  • Great video! I love the Alpha Juno 1, I use mine in almost every song I write. It has a classic sound!

VERY easy to program. The patch sheets are simple too. Makes for fast sound designing.

    :)

  • I soooo miss my alpha juno 2. I couldn't take with me when I moved so I left it at my folk's house and now I miss it.
