@tomata182 actually The Anniversary became about 3 or 4 other groups/solo acts all of which are amazing. Check out Dri, White Flight, Fourth of July, Extra Classic, and of course The Only Children as you mentioned. You can find info for all of them except The Only Children on Range Life Records.
Best song I've heard in a long time. I can't believe I missed out on this song all these years it's been out. This song kind of reminds me of Rainer Maria's song made in secret.
I had the fortune of making friends with Dri when I lived in Lawnrence. These guys had so much talent. It's a shame that the band broke up when it did, but they left their mark. I make sure to introduce all my new friends to The Anniversary. "Designing for a Nervous Breakdown" was excellent, and it's great that "Your Majesty" was so accessible, because it's a great way to introduce would-be fans to such an awesome band.
I found a link to a 2000 review of Designing a Nervous Breakdown in The Pitch Kansas City Newspaper and though it was pretty rad! It brought back so many memories and I still can't get DANB out of my rotation. So I'm writing an article re: The Anniversary's DANB being such a great unheard of (largely) indie-pop album.
The article should be published by tomorrow and no later than this weekend on TheVelvetJesus website.
@eckoecho I know it's been a couple of years but what I had gathered, Adrianne married one of the Get Up Kids (TGUK had brought the Anniversary to Vagrant's attention in the first place and got them signed). Then Adrianne cheated on him. I think that the controversy got them dropped from the label, and they broke up.
You also can buy them at your local indie music shop and not support emusic or itunes and paying for shitty sounding hypercompressed music. Plus keeping your money in your community is a good idea.
The album is called 'Designing a Nervous Breakdown', and you are on the internet, so that means there are only a million places for you to purchase it.
dont down play their album "your majesty" that was good as well but it wasnt as pop/synth rock as this one was. "your majesty" was more about rocking out.
"your majesty" was ok. i liked it, but i just didn't think it was as great as this one. and if you've noticed, this was more natural for them. check out Dri's latest LP...it's far from Your Majesty.

Absolutely great, fantastic, brilliant record. Just like someone said, probably one of the best records coming out of 'emo' scene. It´s just that the next one was a total failure in my opinion, something totally different, remember when I've heard it for the first time, I swear I almost didn't cry...
Saw them once w/The Get Up Kids in 2000, euro tour. It was Copenhagen, Denmark. Amazing show, just amazing. Still have a lightblue shirt. Few days ago I won 'Designing the nervous b.' vinyl,on ebay.
Great song... even better album. They played a show in College Park, MD way back in 00' or 01? w/ Hey Mercedes & Dashboard (pre-MTV Dashboard) ...it was off the charts.
Designing a Nervous Breakdown is probably one of the best "unknown" emo albums, or pop albums for that matter! I still have my Anniversary shirt which is like almost 10 years old and I still wear it...Rock on! Check out my channel...holla
Yay! The Anniversary is getting together to release their unreleased music along with a DVD in 2008! Go check their myspace profile if you don't believe me.
When I was in high school I wanted a Moog so bad because of this band. My boyfriend hates this band. He says that she doesn't use her Moog to its full potential.
This song still gives me goosebumps. Fantastic.

Great song. I really like their sound. Kind of reminds me of The Rentals with the synth backing.

@UsualMike
yes, it is the usual, but do not ignore the post-punk style, making it the synthesis. There should have been more Rentals.
