This evidently is a commercial that was originally done on a wire recorder or perhaps even acetate record, as audio tape like that didn't exist in the industry til after WW2. I used to work at a station that still had the old acetate commercials gathering dust in the attic. Jock would cue up the proper cut just like a song. Mostly they were done for big national advertisers, though some major market stations were able to record to acetate "in house". Just sharing some radio history.
I have this one, but this was similar to the TC-580, but with additional features in the mix.

That is the Sony TC 730 R2R tape recorder.
Excellent machine with built in amplifier.
I have two of those, still going strong after 35 or so years.

Is the tape from 1939, or is it an old commercial that was recently recorded onto the tape from another format ,i.e. transcription disc or wire?

That would be the early 70's Sony TC-650?? I have a '74 Sony TC-580 sitting next to me. It rocks. 35 years old - still sounds great!

The COMMERCIAL is from '39...not the player. The commercial is pretty cool.
