  • Was there some pro-Spinach propaganda at the time? First Popeye now this...

    P.S. I like Spinach my self ;)

  • i like spinach...oh oooohh

  • all a love

  • I was two years younger than Shirley, I hated spinach and idolized Shirley. When I saw her sing this song, and she finally said,"OK spinach," I instantly decided, if she agrees to eat it, I eat it.. I told my parents the next day, that from now on, I want my spinach! My parents were dumbfounded, couldn't believe that a little girl could do what they couldn't.

  • @dolphin330 thats rly cute :)

  • "Childern should do what they are told" ...."Childern should'nt be so very bold" if only more parents would enforce this now a days!!!!! we sure have alot of childern grow up to be meanies, since the 1930's!!!

  • @magicalhoneypie VERY well said!!! So sad but true!

  • I hate spinach

  • 5 people must REALLY hate spinach!

  • I LOVE THIS SOOOOOOOOO MUCH! Thank you SOOO much for posting!!!

  • Beautiful song ... and love Alice singing it! One of Gordon & Revel's best! And isn't No Spinach is a cute number?

  • @dukesgal39 Yeah. And the song is actually, "You Gotta Eat Your Spinach, Baby". However, "When I'm With You" plays first in this clip.

  • LOL This performance was so Adorable. This has been my favourite shirley temple song for many many years:) And she's so Talented!! XD

  • This song is just great. What a babydoll Shirley Temple was!!! A little angel-girl.

  • She is the epitome of innocence and sweetness.

  • This is my favourite part of the movie :) and Jack Haley is so cute!

  • Alice Faye had a very nice voice...Ahhhh those were the days...God nation, good food, good people and HOPE...

  • 'yes sir, yes ma'am. I will tell all the kids of the nation who sent me to see you about it: Children have to do what they are told (hmm, hmm), children shouldn't be so very bold (hmm, hmm), or you will be a meannie when you're old, so, o, k, spinach'

I just love the way she rolls her eyes as they're telling her what children shouldn't do.

She was just too cute back then =) But she grew up to be a great and talented woman.

    Peace

  • -- and the stronger you are; the longer you live AND the longer I have to love youuu!

    I'll eat my spinach now!

  • Magnifico! A++++ Magnificent! A+++

  • shes so cute when she says " believe that stuff"

  • I loved the actors of this era...they held themselves to a better standard...and even if they didn't, the public didn't know about it. Life was simpler then. Shirley was a little dynamo. This is my favorite Shirley movie. Jack Haley is fabulous as was his female co star.

  • I'm 24 years old; I grew up on these movies. I still have a mega crush on Jack Haley!

  • simply beautiful . . .

  • Am I going crazy or is that the Tin Man that the blonde lady's singing with??

  • Good news - you're absolutely sane. That's him, Jack Haley aka the Tin Man :)

  • @JackHaleyFan Thanks :) I love him, Tin Man's my favourite Wizard of Oz character. <3

  • I know what you mean... ^ ^

  • wow, i remember watching her movies as a little kid.. its weird seeing her all grown up haha.

  • she is so feisty here

  • no no no no i am singing to ya no no no no well tell the boogie man the big big bad bad boogie boogie man oh thats just a bluff you know we don't belive in that stuff you got to eat your spinich baby children must do as they are told "yes sir,yes ma'ma"children shouldn't be so very bold "yes sir.yes ma'ma or you'll grow up to be a meanie when you old i love it

  • you gotta eat your spinach baby it's the proper thing to do lol

  • Halleluiah!!!! I finally found these. Poor Little Rich Girl is my all time favorite Shirley Temple movie, but I can not even find the DVD to watch the movie. Every time I eat spinach, I think of this song. Of course I prefer the black and white version but at this point I take anything I can get my hands on. Thanks for posting this and the others from this movie as I have been looking for them all over You Tube. (Now if only I could just get my hands on the movie.)

  • There are a couple VHS copies on ebay.. I don't think it's on DVD.

  • 很喜欢她的电影

  • Thanks for adding "When I'm With You" to this.

  • She's a little drama queen in a good way. So funny when she flails her arms.

  • This movie title is also the title of a "Flintstone Kids" episode.

  • This song has a magnificent tune as well as beautiful lyrics. I adore it! When im with you.

  • the morals were so much better then.

  • @TheDoorOfLight people put kids in there place back then not anymore

  • Yep, because more people followed Christianity in their homes back then.

Morals have just lessened year after year which is one of the main reasons why kids are now singing stuff like "she licks me like a lollipop," "i wanna take a ride on your disco stick," and "i kissed a girl and i liked it"....etc...

  • @TheDoorOfLight I'll say!!!

  • "We'll tell the boogeyman, the big big bad bad boogey boogey man."

"Oh, that's just a bluff. You know we don't believe that stuff."

  • too cute

  • "You've Gotta Eat Your Spinach, Baby.

That's the proper thing to do,

It'll keep you kinda healthy, too,

And what it did for Popeye it will do for you."

  • I'm glad you add "When I'm With You" in this clip.

  • I am glad too because I love Alic :-)

  • The first song in this clip is "When I'm With You".

  • "The big big bad bad bogey bogey man." lol

  • When was this colorized?

  • This was colorized by Ted Turner Network in 1985

  • omg i love her!!!

  • Alice Faye seems to me to look like a grownup version of Shirley. First time I saw this I thought it was her as a grown up and they had done some screen splitting so that it might have been adult Shirley singing to the child Shirley.

  • Is that Alice Faye in the beginning?

    -Lily♥

  • Yes it is Alice Faye

  • your

  • the song names "You´ve gotta eat xour spanich baby" !!!

  • OH-KAY--Spinach!!!

    I love that part!

  • just love that song Alice

    singing"when I'm with you"

    change over to singing to

JACK & SHIRLEY "NO MORE SPINACH"

    If you have SHIRLEY tapping

    to BUT DEFINATELY, would sure

like to see that APTdance number too,

    thanks.

  • You meant to Jack, Shirley AND Alice.

  • Thanks so much for posting! I've been looking for "Spinach" and I wonder why Fox hasn't released "Poor Little Rich Girl" on DVD yet.

Haven't seen it since I was a kid watching Shirley Temple Theatr onSaturdays on channel 5 in New York

  • i have the vhs collections of ALL Shirley's work...and that includes this one. I'm only a kid and I LOVE Shirley Temple
