@Matrinique They worked together in A bit of Fry and Laurie, Jeeves and Wooster and Blackadder(2nd series Fry was regular and Laurie was guesting, 3rd series reverse, and they both were regular in 4th series). All three titles are good.
@sometart The Scots don't really have a choice - the entire island is named "Great Britain" so it's a bit hard to get away from. England = the southern part of the island, and Scotland = the northern part of the island. While people sometimes call the United Kingdom "Britain", that's not an accurate name.
How did Craig Furguson go from being a Scottish stand-up comedian in the 80s, to an American show host? And what the hell is that ridiculous accent he's developed?
How much coffee does Ferguson have before he starts interviewing his guests? Go watch the old Letterman show with Natalie Portman when she was 14 and Alec Baldwin. He's the same annoying, interrupting prick. The guests are awesome, like Stephen Fry and these guys just blabber on.
I wonder if he thinks it's tiresome, always the first thing they ask is about Hugh Laurie. I know they're great friends but is he thinking, what about meeeeee?
@cath5100 Stephen Fry is considered a national treasure in England. I don't think he particularly cares that Hugh Laurie gets more attention in America.
@cmwissy I do know that there are different british accents like scouse or cockney but they are all different from the american or australian one and that's what I like about it.
@Dratini999 Scouse and Cockney are both English accents. They also have different regional accents in Wales & Scotland so it's all really different. That's why it makes me surprised when people, & they do tend to be American people, think there is such a thing as a British accent!! The idea of that is weird when there isn't even such a thing as an English accent! Sorry for the lecture!
@Rachiejane1 Oh I don't mind being lectured xD I'm german and there are a few students that have been in america and have a certain accent and our teachers have all (different) english accents and though they differ from each other they still are more alike than compared to the american one.
But your right I'd better say I likethe scouse, london, oxfort, irish, welsh and scottish accent ;)
@Dratini999 You really think Geordie, Scouse, Manc and Cockney sound similar? I think they all sound completely different but then that's me - I live here so maybe that's why. I have German family and have been to Germany, Koln and other places. Even there there are different accents! But Britain has 3 different countries and people think that it has only 1 accent and they tend to think it is the 'Queen's English' one! Oh well!
@Rachiejane1 I know they are different but to me they they sound all very cool and I love'em all. so instead of listing every single accent I just say the british to make clear that I do not like the american or australian one.
and it's like with the german accent. Of course there are alot of different accents they still ALL sound different from the austrian one. even though they speak german in austri, too. That's what I mean. xD darn...I think that's the longest discussion I had on youtube
@Dratini999 Nooooo! You missed my point! People say 'British accent' and they mean the English accent. People say Scottish accent, Welsh accent and British accent, not Scottish, Welsh and ENGLISH accent. This is what I mean. I think you just did the same? I wasn't being over sensitive about all the different accents in England - just that people say British when they mean English which is wrong. Yeah - this has been a long discussion!! Sorry I didn't explain properly!
@Dratini999 Yeah - that's what I meant. Why don't people say English when they mean English - not British instead???! Hope you had a nice time in Scotland. I haven't been there myself but I hear it's nice. And they have shortbread & battered Mars Bars there...! x
@Rachiejane1 Oh Scotland was GREAT!!! All those carstles and the highlands...beautiful. I was in Edingburgh and Glasgow and both cities were brilliant! You should really go there. ^^x
@icharisghost Please explain how the wonderful Stephen Fry is an arrogant pig? He is one of the most humble celebrities out there. You strike me as someone with a chip on their shoulder or a complex
How lovely! Stephen is just all around amazing. And thanks to your sharing this, I now have a new favourite Fry quote: "There just isn't enough vomit in the world". That one will come in useful, I'm sure :)
Craig Ferguson seems a little upset whenever he talks about his past probably because he was hugely underrated comedian in Britain and was driven to some pretty sad lows. The Ferguson Theory was a genius show in places
Fry did the British versions, and Jim Dale did the US versions. I don't know which english versions got distributed in other countries, although I suppose Amazon makes it a moot point.
@kyrastube Yes - Stephen narrated the Harry Potter books although I think they had Jim Dale in the US (although I have no idea why they didn't have Stephen!!) Then again they did change the title of The Philosopher's Stone to Sorcerer's Stone in the US for some reason? Don't know why they always change things that don't need changing?
@Rachiejane1 Did you know that the books are different in wording too?! I read the British version and thought there were an awful lot of typos until I lived in the UK for a few years and realized the US has a translated english to english version... LOL
@Blackbirdwayr Really? I thought changing the title of the book because the American publishers didn't think that Americans would be able to understand the word 'Philosopher' was bad enough but changing the words?? And typos? Wow - the media there really has a low opinion of its people don't they! Maybe it was English slang or phrases & that's why they changed it? You'd know more than me about that though having lived in both! Strange that I get US slang & phrases & I've never lived there though
Gosh, I wish they'd air QI on BBC America. I realize the majority of Americans wouldn't get their pop culture references, but I don't care. It's such a great show, and Stephen Fry is awesome.

Wow, very surprised Stephen Fry would come on an American talk show. Glad it was on Craig though, two of my favorite people on the same show is too awesome.
I know Hugh Laurie is huge in america because of House. But in the UK Fry is probably more well known that Laurie because he is on Tv mor often. I.E. QI
I doubt most people know who he is. I accidently came across a documentary of his and thats how I learned of him but I don't think he has done any work over here.
Sadly, he is not as well known here in America as he should be. Basically, it's only thanks to YouTube and NetFlix that we are aware of the brilliant comedic genius that is Stephen Fry.
I myself just bought the entire series of "Jeeves and Wooster". To me, there could never be a more perfect man to play Jeeves.

Interesting how Craig Ferguson never made it in the UK, where nobody found him at all funny. But he's hit the big time in the US where he passes for comic genius. Says a lot I think.
Stephen Fry doesn't even compare to any of those. But he'd be the first to point out their talents. Couple that with an enormous intellect, add a great sense of humor, and you have one of the greatest comic geniuses of the last 30 years.
Only Americans would put down Stephen Fry! Sure, those guys are very funny, theres no doubt, and I love them, but you are clearly not cultured or humerous enough to judge Stephen Fry with that off hand put down!
Fry's really lost weight since this hasn't he?

Interesting how Craig Ferguson never made it in the UK, where nobody found him at all funny. But he's hit the big time in the US where he passes for comic genius. Says a lot I think.

Perhaps it says that UK doesn't have the collective brains to know talent.

i think it says he was a drunk who couldnt get his act together who changed his life in a different country.
I think Craigs funny, just because he is not on the bbc doesnt make him unfunny.

comic genius? really? when you have people in the US such as Larry David, Jerry Seinfeld, Matt Stone/Trey Parker, Jon Stewart etc...
golfpro020591 2 years ago
Stephen Fry doesn't even compare to any of those. But he'd be the first to point out their talents. Couple that with an enormous intellect, add a great sense of humor, and you have one of the greatest comic geniuses of the last 30 years.

Only Americans would put down Stephen Fry! Sure, those guys are very funny, theres no doubt, and I love them, but you are clearly not cultured or humerous enough to judge Stephen Fry with that off hand put down!
