I have seen similiar situations in Cincinnati OH and Detroit MI. I thought that it was handled well in Cincinnati. They redesigned and rebuilt the so-called projects so that poor people could still afford to live in housing that looked and functioned well. Anyhow, I'm not in Atlanta GA ... but, I hope that they do it right and with respect to the poor people currently living there...
I guess they are going for the 'retrospect is 20/20' point of view in addressing the gentrification problem. They showed the movie on Georgia State's campus not to long ago.
something about this is confusing me..... normally these kinds of documentaries are done before the end of the problem that the documentary is about, eg. the intentional flooding of the Yangzhe River to build the Three Gorges Dam, or Dan Quayle's movie on global warming, but this movie is coming out in 2010, after all the housing has been eliminated. That seems somewhat counterproductive to me.
its well known that atlanta officials are some of the most corrupt leaders in america.
