Are people really still arguing Tara vs Michelle? Wow........Tara deserved the gold in Nagano. Michelle deserves to be considered the greatest skater of all time. It's over. Let it go. Michelle has......she has her masters degree and is going to do even more amazing things in her life.
to be fair I have always been a massive fan of Tara Lipinski but on the other hand.. Michelle is still skating and goin for it, whilst Tara retired and has not done much since.. I still love Tara to bits, she will allways be an inspiratin to me, Im just sad about the fact she cooled down after olympics..
I REALLY wish she hadn't been injured in 2006! The jumps were HERS and she didn't really falter under nerves...so she could have out jumped what Sasha and Irina did. And Shizuka only did 5 triples...at that time Michelle was doing at least 6 so it was possible.
The one problem for her is that when skating went to COP in 2005, IMO it really favored the more flexible skaters. Michelle was certainly flexible...look at her signature spiral. But those 3 skaters would have beaten her otherwise.
@MTVMANN well, yes, but in her later years she was flexible in certain extensions. However her spirals were lovely though her other extensions were not completely flexible. But never the less, I'd like her just the way she is, not as an attempt to prove that she's better than anybody else. I love her consistency better than anybody else. I don't want her to see if she could compare herself with other skaters like Sasha or Tara.
What I love about Michelle Kwan is not just her spirals or her jumps, it is also for the highest level of competency and also for her personality, except at some times when she was completely engulfed with her emotion after one performance. It was extremely heartbreaking to see that. Tara also have some fine points as well for her personality and for the level of competency she has shown in her program.
i want to be just like her.......i love figure skating because it makes you feel like you can just break free and its the most amazing feeling in the world michelle has taught me to feel that feeling<3Love you michelle<3
She wasn't eligible to make a shot for the 2010 Olympic because of her injuries and then, her career was put on hold for other endeavors. Sasha tried and couldn't make it either. So it was Yu Na Kim who became the champ.
although agreeing with you that Michele is THE bomb ....I have to argue aboutr her best performance.....LOVED 1996 worlds...long~ she is amazing in WHATEVER she does....but that performance did it for me!
Dear TaraL: Yes, we know you're bitter that your OGM led only to animosity w your publicist who called you too chicken for 98 worlds, w the USFSA who was only too gracious to give you an award, and w SOI which took care of you for years yet you only have bad words for them. But trolling as getrealandsee, allenglandlawns, etc. for years & attacking the revered Kwan hasn't helped you at all. Get off the computer & look for a job, so you can get out of being the CAREERLESS HAS-BEEN that you are.
@anubethc45 Not that I particularly care what you think but since this is an open forum I will respond. I LOVE SASHA COHEN and she has been badly treated and seriously under recognized. 'trespass'...how quaint.
@getrealandsee You are possibly the most pathetic excuse for a human being I've ever met on YouTube... It was a sad, sad day for the history of our species the day you were born, and even sadder when you discovered this sport. You disgrace it with your lies.
@getrealandsee Oh good, you finally saw my comment. Michelle Kwan has done more for this sport than most, and you clearly know very little about it. I expect you don't know your Lutz from your Axel. I might also add that "narcissim" is not a word. Now, unless you're annoying enough to reply simply for the sake of having the last word, regardless of its unimportance, I wouldn't bother. Good day. :)
I absolutely love Michelle Kwan. I was so sad that she did not win the gold in the olympics. She is the best skater in my opinion. (Not to disrespect anyone).
...because she was intentionally injured. Todd crapped up at the Olympics. That should have been a lesson not to send someone to the Olympics because of an ORDINARY injury. Kwan was sent due to the media attention she would generate for NBC, not bc she would win. The olympics should be about ideals and aspirations, NOT manipulation. Kwan would have absolutely been RUN over under COP and rightfully left this sport broken and defeated after years of shafting so many hardworking athletes.
@allenglandlawns I also find your theory about why the USFSA sent her to be truly absurd. They stated that they thought she would have a better chance to medal than Emily (I agree with them). Once again, Michelle Kwan WAS NEVER propped up at world level. I feel that she deserved all of her World and National titles, and I think that she deserved to make the Olympic team in 2006.
@Karosanyo So it's about the medals? So the American contingent can show off how many medals we won to NBC? Michelle did state in her cliche riddled interview with Costas that "medals never crossed my mind." Olympic dreams are not born this way. How could they be sure that Kwan stood a better chance? Tara and Sarah placed 2nd/3rd respectively at nationals to qualify and became Olympic champions without help or anyone saying they would win. Those are REAL olympic dreams.
@Karosanyo It was up to the committee, but they should have rejected Kwan's petition. The petition was a silly attempt to once again make skating ALL about her. Kwan made a career out of pity, whoa-is-me-I-didn't-win-the-gold-so-I-will-continue-to-cheat-this-sport. Real champions know when it's time to hang up their skates bc they only want the very best athletes to push it forward. Kwan doesn't love this sport to do that. She never upped the ante and stayed only for the perks: fame/money.
@allenglandlawns I disagree that they should have rejected Michelle's petition (she did more for US FS than all of the skaters that made the team ever did). Michelle also had to give up her spot in '94... Yes, Michelle thought that she could to it but she got injured again... She knew then it was time to "hang up her skates" and move on...
@Karosanyo Yeah, after she robbed Emily, and not to mention so many other skaters their chance in the spotlight. What has she done for skating? She cheated it, robbed other athletes, and sucked up all the praise while real athletes break their backs to restore it's credibility and push it forward. Kwan stagnated herself and the sport. The pristine image and legacy of Michelle the gracious, graceful champion lives on, but it's nothing more than a fake facade. GOOD RIDDANCE KWAN.
@allenglandlawns Well, Michelle only competed 5 times in 2005 (her only international competition was Worlds that year where she placed higher than Emily ever did). Kwan wasn't at the top of her game at the 2005 Worlds... The evidence WAS overwhelming...
@allenglandlawns This damn thread won't take many of my posts and I have to keep typing the same things over and over! They appear later on (I have removed so many!). ONCE AGAIN, Michelle only competed 5 times in 2005 (her only international competition was Worlds where she scored higher than Emily ever did). She was also far from her best at the 2005 Worlds... The evidence WAS overwhelming...
Michelle Kwan making a comeback? Well, that would be good entertainment ..kind of like half time at the Super Bowl..watching her flail her arms and indicate a need for pepto bismal or gas x with those ugly facial expressions that she passes off as artistry. You can also count on at least one every so graceful fall and a downgraded jump..Yes, indeedy let's let Michelle Kwan entertain us...let her make us smile:) And then back to the real competitors!!!!
@Penguinsnifflepop1 Danny Kwan and Estelle were born in Hong Kong. Michelle and her brother and sister are US cititzens by birth. All three of them were born here.
when it comes to executing the choreography, michelle does it better than yuna or anybody else. it seems as if she was just standing in solid ground, dancing a regular dance. when it comes to emotions, nobody beats michelle! I admire Yuna, Mao Asada and all the others, I just think Michelle is one in a million^^
@taylorswift091196 Michelle is Chinese. You prefer Yuna's style but where do you think Yuna drew her skating style from? Try watching Michelle's older videos! :D
@asterisk911 So is Tonya Harding..Michelle's role model and idol:) And Tonya did more for the sport than anyone. She was much better than Kwan on Kwan's best day but Tonya PAID for what she did wrong...Kwan cashed in!!!
@getrealandsee You're actually comparing Michelle to Tonya??? Someone that planned an attack on another human being? Tonya did more for this sport than anyone? You're an asshole! Michelle GAVE UP HER SPOT FOR NANCY. Michelle did NOTHING wrong. She WAS injured in 2006! Nancy and Tod were in '94 and '92, and they didn't compete for their spot on the team (Michelle was far more accomplished than both of them put together). Michelle also won Nationals two times in an Olympic year.
@Karosanyo Yes, Michelle attacked and sabotaged Emily's dream with a pen...Tonya was just more honest and used a club. Same thing..different weapons! Umm...Michelle 'has' gold for two Nats..she hardly EARNED or WON them...they were GIFTED to her. Michelle didn't have a spot to give up, Nancy was injured within the sport and had competed all season..she didn't just crawl out of the woodwork for a high profile competition. And Sasha TRIED for a spot..on skates...in front of an audience!!
@getrealandsee LOL! Tonya was better than Michelle? That's a joke. Yuna HAS stated that she was inspired by Michelle's skating. You would have to be blind not to notice the influence that Michelle had on her artistry. Hell, she even "borrowed" a lot of Michelle's choreography for her own programs (caressing her arms and chest like Michelle did in Rach, etc.). Michelle's programs were far from "simple". That statement is truly stupid.
@Karosanyo Absolutely Tonya was far better than Michelle. Yes, I am sure that per PR Yuna lauded Kwan. However, if you insist on comparing them...check Michelle's rendition of Scherazade and then Yuna's at Worlds. Yuna didn't hold back even though she was so far ahead that she couldn't lose the gold. Yuna's was full of difficulty and grace.
@getrealandsee EOE, Lyra, Rach '98, TFB, SOTBS, TRV, Salome, etc. put Yuna's artistry to shame. Yes, Michelle earned ALL of her National wins. I disagree with your opinions. What the hell? MICHELLE WAS INJURED in 2006! Michelle won Nationals NINE TIMES! She WON WORLDS FIVE TIMES! She earned ALL of her wins! Todd Eldredge and Nancy Kerrigan didn't compete for their spots as well... Michelle did give up her spot for Nancy... Everyone knew that there would only be two spots open for the team.
@getrealandsee Landing seven triples with difficult choreography is far from "simple". Very little effort? That's truly ignorant. Michelle loved and respected this sport. She did nothing wrong (maybe in YOUR MIND she did). I agree with the poster below that stated that NOBODY executed choreography better than Michelle. I also loved how solid her jumps were. I don't care if she doesn't have the OGM that comes every four years. I still think that she's the greatest female skater of all time.
@Karosanyo Horse Patooki! Michelle Kwan USED this sport and seriously damaged its credibility. Choreography? Arm waving, jiggling, wiggling, all to mask the fact that she is not athletic or courageous. She is a coward and a two time Olympic LOSER! Your are certainly entitled to your opinion but she isn't the greatest female skater of all time. Thanks to COP for sure in the future. No longer will a mediocre wannabe be able to hang on forever and ever 'winning' Gold for crap.
@Karosanyo Wow...quick on the response. I stand by what I have said. My statements are true, and hardly vindictive..just honest which is more than Kwan can ever ever claim to be:) I am moving on to another screen so the forum is all yours. Do have a good evening!!
@getrealandsee Yes, you'll be moving on to another one of Michelle's videos to posts the same vindictive statements over and over... Well, I'm off to watch the Oscars! Have fun!
@lb1309 You mean the lumbering onto the ice, the falls, the grimaces, the stumbling bumbling, and arm flailing passed off as artistry while skating a very safe simple program requiring very little effort and being timid even at that? Yuna Kim is a true champion whose love and respect for the sport show every time she steps on the ice...she risks it all and to even think that ANY of Kwan's programs could EVER compare to hers is an insult to Yuna!!!!
@getrealandsee What the hell is wrong with you? You're acting like an obsessive psychopath! Your obsession with Michelle Kwan is getting worse and worse. WHY DO YOU WATCH HER PERFORMANCES AND INTERVIEWS IF YOU HATE HER AND THINK THAT SHE'S OVERRATED???? YOU EVEN HAVE MANY OF HER PERFORMANCES ON YOUR FAVORITES! THIS DOESN"T MAKE A LOT OF SENSE! How many times a day to you post these vindictive and slanderous statements on Michelle's videos? You're truly pathetic.
@Karosanyo And you are the guardian of Kwan's 'image' which is carefully crafted but also allows light in when Kwan is caught off guard. Her underbelly and true character are vile and ugly. It's only slander if it isn't true so I am innocent of slander:) Michelle Kwan is pathetic, not I. She cheated a young girl out of her dream and was so ignorant that she was all over TV talking about the wonderful Olympic Experience...and how she loved it. Emily would have as well and she EARNED it!
@getrealandsee Emily came in third place with a mediocre LP! LOL! The only thing that's vile and ugly are these nasty and vindictive posts by YOU! You sound so bitter and full of hate. Yes, this IS slander! YOU STATE YOUR OPINIONS AS IF THEY'RE FACT. No, YOUR statements are far from being "true". These are just YOUR half-baked assumptions and opinions. I apologize for getting so upset with you. I just can't believe these truly vindictive statements by you. Why are you so obsessed with Michelle?
@getrealandsee And scene... Just some more vindictive statements... No, most of her programs DID have complex choreography. Why do you watch her programs over and over if you think that they're mediocre??? Michelle was artistic and althetic (doing seven triples most of the isn't isn't easy). No, Tonya was never better than Michelle. That's silly. PR lauded? That's another ignorant statement. Well, Scheherazade wasn't one of Michelle's best, but I still liked it better than Yuna's...
@Karosanyo Tonya had more athletic talent than Michelle EVER had. Kwan just used beautifully choreographed programs to hide the fact that she was always mediocre. Jumps? Simple and low. Spins? Easy positions. Spiral? Overdone. Complex choreography? You mean waving her arms/body with those facial expressions. No real skating athlete would waste their time with these. It's about pushing yourself and the sport FORWARD. This is NOT a "half-baked assumption" as you like to call it. It's reason.
@allenglandlawns All is Tonya had was an over-rotated triple axel (which she hardly landed in competition). Midori Ito OWNS that jump. Tonya had good jumps when she was on and good speed, but that's it (she hardly did a more difficult triple-triple as well). All of her other elements were mediocre. Most of Michelle's choreography was complex (transitions and footwork into jumps, etc.) and her spins were good (her COE double Y spin and spining in both directions was far from easy).
@allenglandlawns An overdone spiral? Michelle Kwan had the BEST spiral in the business (her edging and speed was great). She could also hold them for so long (Sasha couldn't hold her spiral for long and her edging and speed was mediocre). Michelle jumps were truly great when she was skating her best. Landing seven triples with two triple lutzes (one near the end of her program) was far from easy. They were so tight in the air and solid (they had good height as well).
@allenglandlawns I also find it funny that you call Michelle an awful human being for using a pen, but it's okay with you that Todd and Nancy used one as well (Michelle was FAR more accomplished than both of them put together). Michelle also gave up her own spot in 1994 for Nancy. You just keep using double standards. I am very honest and mature with my views. You apply your limitations for everyone to see, but I acknowledge reality...
@Karosanyo Kwan did NOT compete at all in 2006 and did NOT prove herself under COP. What on earth made her think she was good enough to beat real athletes who did put in the work to compete? Her rivals were already blowing past her for YEARS. She blew it TWICE before under a corrupt system that favored her simple programs. It was pathetic (she got a common practice injury) and destroys the credibility of the sport. Nancy was an EXTRAORDINARY circumstance and deserved to go (continued...)
@allenglandlawns Michelle couldn't compete in 2006 because of her hip injury. Her doctor stated that she needed three months off of ice for it to heal (that was in October). This was up to the USFSA to make up the team for the US (she did skate in front of a panel and they felt that she could compete). Everything had to be taken into consideration. Michelle competed ONCE under the COP and scored higher than Emily EVER DID (her programs were not COP friendly as well).
@allenglandlawns Michelle had Tatiana Tarasova help her with her programs for the COP. Real athletes??? The person who won the OGM in 2006 only had 5 triples (Michelle had 7 in '98 and 5 in 2002). A common practice injury? An ordinary injury? Are you a doctor? And Michelle DID GIVE UP HER OWN SPOT IN 1994! Destroys the crediblity of the sport? I find your opinions ludicrous. When did Nancy ever prove herself at World level prior to the Olympics? When was Todd on the Olympic podium?
@Karosanyo Oh come on now, these ordinary practice injuries happen ALL the time in sports and should NOT be granted any special exceptions. That's what I meant. Nancy's situation was EXTRAORDINARY bc someone was hired to hit her. And Arakawa scored higher than Kwan ever did even with a downgraded Olympic program. You're right that everything should be considered, but the standards must also be high. So what if Kwan was injured in 2006? Too bad for her. All athletes have to PAY for their injuries
@allenglandlawns Oh, and Michelle didn't even have any COP programs and was far from her best at the 2005 Worlds. Yes, Arakawa scored higher than Kwan ever did, but Michelle only competed once...
@Karosanyo Best? You mean when she let her heart sing with her pretty programs? They would have been smothered even more under COP. Kwan is designed for powder puff competitions where reputation is all you need. Let her have her medals, earned or unearned but she was never good enough to EARN the only prize that matters to her. And to see her worm and cheat her way into Torino just proves how desperate she was to get it. I'm sorry but I find that pathetic.
@allenglandlawns I disagree that she would have been "smothered" under COP if she skated her best and had COP friendly programs. Michelle didn't skate her very best in the LP at the '98 and 2002 Olympics (I think that she would have won if she did). She still skated very well in 1998 (few have skated their very best after winning the SP). Michelle was always good enough to EARN the Olympics that are every four year (I truly feel that she would have if they were every year).
@Karosanyo Even the self-absorbed Kwan mentioned every nationals is different. Unless you mean even if she were to show up on nationals ice on crutches, the title was already given to her. It was like that in every nationals she's skated in since 97. So what if she missed it? She couldn't skate and can't qualify. That's the heartbreak of competing in sports at a high level. It's unfair to the other athletes who did work their butts off however well they performed.
@allenglandlawns Yes, every Nationals is different and Emily only could come in third place... No, Michelle deserved all of her National titles (landing 7 to 6 triples 8 times out of 9!).
@Karosanyo For Kwan to be placed on the Olympic team, the evidence MUST be overwhelming. Kwan was hobbling the last 3-4 months and didn't win an international medal in 2 years. It's not like she was reigning world champion and skated well all season. You can't cheat another skater out bc you think she MIGHT be on top of her game and is worthy of CHEATING emily however well she skated at nationals.
@Karosanyo In the 12 months leading up to Torino, she FAILED to medal at worlds. She FAILED to compete at nationals. She FAILED to compete in the fall warm-ups events. She did however ace a TV-made, big-bucks 2005 Marshall's event where the audience votes for their favorite skater to win. That's hardly evidence. Thank you COP for shutting down the corrupt Kwan era and let real and honest athletes compete however well they perform.
@allenglandlawns Tara won Worlds and Nationals the year before and came in second place at Nationals with a clean performance. Sarah cam in third place at Worlds the year before and won Skate Canada the year after. Emily never won anything and she never scored higher than Michelle did under COP. They made the right call.
@allenglandlawns Michelle wasn't given any special exceptions... It's up to the USFSA to pick the team (the only given is the the winner). Michelle wasn't the first skater to be named on the team with a pen. Michelle won Nationals two times in an Olympic year (she also won Nationals nine times). She also gave up her own spot in 1994. She also scored higher than Emily ever did under COP (Emily cam in third place with a highly mediocre skate).
@allenglandlawns Sasha was also injured. Did you even pay attention as well? Miki also suffered numerous injuries as well and paid the price of performing while injured. Michelle has shown tremendous honesty by admitting that she couldn't perform while injured or she would have paid the price the same way that Miki paid hers. it is sad to see when an athlete suffers and had to interrupt her performance because of one big fall.
@allenglandlawns Michelle pushed her artistry as far as she could go. She just lacked a more difficult triple-triple. I find it funny that you praise Sasha (the one who never skated a 7 triple performance even with an "easy" 3T-3T) but you condemn Michelle for not doing more difficult triple-triples. Sasha also skated the same style (she wasn't versatile with her artistry like Michelle was).
@lb1309 i agree with you, Yuna copies most of her styles from Michelle, and just modifies some so that they wouldn't look entirely similar, but the execution is a far cry compared with Michelle. In my opinion, Michelle has the grace and finesse of a true skater which many don't have, even with the recent batch of ice skaters...
@aLeXrOcKs12599 I'm still confused at what you're saying because I don't believe Michelle EVER made an attempt to compete at the 2010 Olympics. I mean she didn't even compete at the 2010 US Nationals. So how could she have dropped out of the 2010 Olympics??? She didn't even make a public announcement that she was going to compete competitively again!!
@lb1309 Michelle felt that the entire world needed to know that she wasn't competing in the 2010 Olympics...like the entire skating community was holding its breath waiting to know this...OMG however did the Olympics go on so beautifully w/o her? Yuna Kim blew the field away and let's get one thing straight...Yuna has her OWN style and didn't fall, play it safe, or in any way resemble the two time Olympic loser!!!
@JUNGLEJIMY123 I think you are confused because Michelle didn't even make an attempt to compete at the 2010 Olympics. She dropped out of the 2006 Olympics and that's where Emily Hughes took her place!!!
@HowsaBowsaYowsa Fuck sasha bitch can't skate worth a damn under pressure the latest generation of US female skaters aren't graceful IMO like the past ones. I love the asian & russian skaters now.
@Zuranthium. 1. you don't know "Tosca". There is nothing "restrained" about a woman who is bassically raped and then gives her life for her true love. 2. If you go back to MK's earlier programs of the 90's and early 2000's there was much more footwork and connecting steps of a higher degree of difficulty. By 2004 her "foot work" consisted of a couple of 3 turns and running on her toe picks. She had no connecting choreography from 2004 on to her demise at the 2006 Turin games. Deal with facts.
Michelle's choreography/transitions declined post 02, but not her actual footwork sequences. b4 COP footwork requirements weren't so strict so compared 2 everyone else during her time Michelle always had interesting/great footwork although ur playing it down as much as possible. in tosca It was the only interesting part imo (you may think differently) I thought her turns and running was extremely effective. her footwork sequences did not decline, in 2005 spartacus sp was her most difficult ever
@RandyGla (continued comment) what I'm trying to say is much of michelle's footwork may be deemed simple but that's only by today's COP standards, not 6.0 standards. during 6.0 most female skaters had relatively bad footwork and michelle's was amongst the best if not the best. michelle may have declined in other aspects but her footwork remained crisp and only got better, her spartacus short program had the most difficult footwork of her career.
@RandyGla also, tosca was bare and boring through a lot of the parts but it was still synced to the music, especially during the beginning and the end. I don't agree that this music fits it just as well nor any music you'd put to it. tosca was too empty and should've been beefed up with choreography but the skeleton and foundation was perfectly set for the music
Great example of the downfall of Michelle Kwan. The last few years you could play any music to her program and it would work. Her programs were almost void of any choreography. I went to Atlanta Nationals in 2004 and she actually practiced her program to different music then performed "Tosca" in the competition.....cross over, two foot, jump...cross over, cross over two foot jump..zzzzzzzzzzz!
@RandyGla Ridiculous statement. The music used in this video didn't work with her performance at all. Kwan's "Tosca" was about restrained passion and the simple majesty of the choreography worked brilliantly. Her stunning footwork and ending poses for the program are like an overwhelming orgasm, which only works because of how steady, unfussy, and commanding her performance was up to that point.
@stueystu1 I dont think that its necessary for Michelle to do a triple/triple. I mean you don’t get extra points for doing a triple/triple. The only thing that matters is that you land ALL your jumps. When Yuna Kim scored 150pts in the FS at Vancouver, she did so because she finally landed ALL of her jumps. So if and when Michelle finally does decide to come back (I really hope so!!!), she’ll need to land 7 triples in the FS.
@stuestu1 And instead of doing a triple lutz/triple toe like Yuna she can do her usual triple toe/triple toe. But to gain advantage on pts technically, she has to jam pack the second half of her FS with jumps because each jump gets an additional 10% bonus. And I’m pretty sure she’ll get a lot of pts for her inspirational choreography and interpretation, iconic spiral, and upgraded spins. What do you guys think?
Wow she's amazing. I've been ice skating science I was three and I'm 15 now and I want to be just like her

What I love about Michelle Kwan is not just her spirals or her jumps, it is also for the highest level of competency and also for her personality, except at some times when she was completely engulfed with her emotion after one performance. It was extremely heartbreaking to see that. Tara also have some fine points as well for her personality and for the level of competency she has shown in her program.

...because she was intentionally injured. Todd crapped up at the Olympics. That should have been a lesson not to send someone to the Olympics because of an ORDINARY injury. Kwan was sent due to the media attention she would generate for NBC, not bc she would win. The olympics should be about ideals and aspirations, NOT manipulation. Kwan would have absolutely been RUN over under COP and rightfully left this sport broken and defeated after years of shafting so many hardworking athletes.
allenglandlawns 11 months ago

She never upped the ante and stayed only for the perks: fame/money.
allenglandlawns 11 months ago

Michelle didn't have a spot to give up, Nancy was injured within the sport and had competed all season..she didn't just crawl out of the woodwork for a high profile competition. And Sasha TRIED for a spot..on skates...in front of an audience!!
getrealandsee 1 year ago

Yuna's was full of difficulty and grace.
getrealandsee 1 year ago

Karosanyo 1 year ago

It's reason.
allenglandlawns 1 year ago
@allenglandlawns All is Tonya had was an over-rotated triple axel (which she hardly landed in competition). Midori Ito OWNS that jump. Tonya had good jumps when she was on and good speed, but that's it (she hardly did a more difficult triple-triple as well). All of her other elements were mediocre. Most of Michelle's choreography was complex (transitions and footwork into jumps, etc.) and her spins were good (her COE double Y spin and spining in both directions was far from easy).
Karosanyo 11 months ago
@allenglandlawns An overdone spiral? Michelle Kwan had the BEST spiral in the business (her edging and speed was great). She could also hold them for so long (Sasha couldn't hold her spiral for long and her edging and speed was mediocre). Michelle jumps were truly great when she was skating her best. Landing seven triples with two triple lutzes (one near the end of her program) was far from easy. They were so tight in the air and solid (they had good height as well).

Nancy was an EXTRAORDINARY circumstance and deserved to go (continued...)
allenglandlawns 11 months ago
@allenglandlawns Michelle couldn't compete in 2006 because of her hip injury. Her doctor stated that she needed three months off of ice for it to heal (that was in October). This was up to the USFSA to make up the team for the US (she did skate in front of a panel and they felt that she could compete). Everything had to be taken into consideration. Michelle competed ONCE under the COP and scored higher than Emily EVER DID (her programs were not COP friendly as well).
Karosanyo 11 months ago
@allenglandlawns Michelle had Tatiana Tarasova help her with her programs for the COP. Real athletes??? The person who won the OGM in 2006 only had 5 triples (Michelle had 7 in '98 and 5 in 2002). A common practice injury? An ordinary injury? Are you a doctor? And Michelle DID GIVE UP HER OWN SPOT IN 1994! Destroys the crediblity of the sport? I find your opinions ludicrous. When did Nancy ever prove herself at World level prior to the Olympics? When was Todd on the Olympic podium?
Karosanyo 11 months ago
This has been flagged as spam show
@Karosanyo Oh come on now, these ordinary practice injuries happen ALL the time in sports and should NOT be granted any special exceptions.

I'm sorry but I find that pathetic.
allenglandlawns 11 months ago
@allenglandlawns I disagree that she would have been "smothered" under COP if she skated her best and had COP friendly programs. Michelle didn't skate her very best in the LP at the '98 and 2002 Olympics (I think that she would have won if she did). She still skated very well in 1998 (few have skated their very best after winning the SP). Michelle was always good enough to EARN the Olympics that are every four year (I truly feel that she would have if they were every year).

Thank you COP for shutting down the corrupt Kwan era and let real and honest athletes compete however well they perform.
allenglandlawns 11 months ago
@allenglandlawns Tara won Worlds and Nationals the year before and came in second place at Nationals with a clean performance.
RandyGla 1 year ago
Michelle's choreography/transitions declined post 02, but not her actual footwork sequences. b4 COP footwork requirements weren't so strict so compared 2 everyone else during her time Michelle always had interesting/great footwork although ur playing it down as much as possible. in tosca It was the only interesting part imo (you may think differently) I thought her turns and running was extremely effective. her footwork sequences did not decline, in 2005 spartacus sp was her most difficult ever
rischyoriamngolan 1 year ago
@RandyGla (continued comment) what I'm trying to say is much of michelle's footwork may be deemed simple but that's only by today's COP standards, not 6.0 standards. during 6.0 most female skaters had relatively bad footwork and michelle's was amongst the best if not the best. michelle may have declined in other aspects but her footwork remained crisp and only got better, her spartacus short program had the most difficult footwork of her career.
rischyoriamngolan 1 year ago

日本那次,失误之后她最后命运(金牌,还是铜牌)掌握在那个俄国人手里,俄国人采取了对她最不利的策略,保住了自己的银牌,而使关屈居铜牌。
关是最受欢迎的,就是这样。

WHY ARE THEY THROWING SHOES?
HelloImQuin 2 years ago
Are those flowers or shoes? LOL if its shoes, then damn, lots of people will be having cold feet that night.
But realistically speaking I don't think she'd beable to top Yuna Kim's scores if she were to have competed at the Vancouver Olympics.
