Shaker Run, the first English movie I ever watched, I watched it in 1989 I guess, was my all time favorite movie back then, also have a VHS copy of the movie, the tape completely covered with fungus now, the last time I watched this movie was in 1991, now after 20 years, thanks to You Tube and drelbcom watching it again. Certainly an intriguing look at mid-1980s New Zealand...
As for the lead car used in this, while it appears to resemble a 1979 Pontiac Trans-Am with the Mad-Max treatment, its actually a glassfibre bodyshell on top of Holden HQ platform and running gear... There was an outfit here in New Zealand in the mid-80s who could offer Holden based kits of the 1979 Pontiac Transam and DeTomaso Pantera...

However, for such a small population it made little sense, so the brands were slowly rationalized to one, Holden, for passenger cars in the 1990s (exception: an Isuzu SUV was sold for a year). By the time the Firebird was launched in 1967, I believe Pontiac was selling its last model (before a brief re-emergence with the Opel Kadett E-based Le Mans). Any Trans Ams in New Zealand are private imports.

Interesting! Is this because GM didn't have many cars in NZ. Were there even Trans-Ams in NZ at all? The Capri is clearly a kit/race version as well.
