Officialy, a religion war, catolic army against catar heresy. Really, since the battle of "Montsegur", the assimilation of the Occitan people into the French kingdom. Freedom for Occitania !
i like this songs and the cathars who have died in Montségur but i can't understand the subversive side of this song. Ok it's against catholicism but iron maiden is a british group and England is mainly protestant ...
@mardochee2009 Catholicism is a VERY evil religion. It's been responsible for more death, blood, and evil than any other religion ever pretty much. Just look at their history.
@karlmoles65 pfffffffff ok and all the priests are pedophiles and catholicism is the whore of babylon lol i'm a french huguenot protestant with a cathar descent i know this kind of "creed" but capitalism, globalization, lake of values and morality are more evil than catholicism which is not one. you can't compare mother teresa or William of occam to bernardo guy or the borgias. Its the same for all religions...
@mardochee2009 Naw, most of the priests are probably really great men that try their best to help people, and I'm sure by far and away most individual Catholics are great folks. But as to whether it's a terribly evil religion overall. Well I suggest you consult the victims of the Inquisition, or the Aztec race, or your own Cathar ancestors.
@karlmoles65 the cathars have been killed by people from the northern france and a part of nothern europe, the aztec by the spanish conquistadors, the inquisition is the result of the mixt between church and individuals interests (cf the templars, the cathars, the valdesians...). Actually church in Europe had contributed to end the antic slavery during the first part of the middle age and to prevent the weakest from german violence by the knight values
@mardochee2009 The Aztecs were killed by CATHOLIC conquistadors, by direct order of the church. You kinda left that one out there. The Inquisition was innocent people being fiendishly tortured to death, by the church. Whatever good they're accomplished through the centuries is far outweighed by the countless evil they have caused. I'm am sure Catholicism horrifies God as much if not more than anything his children have ever done.
@karlmoles65 Yeah, but the whole "they are pagan savages" was just an excuse to kill them, many suggest that the true reason for the church and the Spanish conquistadors to do what they did was to establish a powerful catholic position in the new world as well as to show Europe that church is still as powerful as ever (seeing as by that time the church was losing it's control over Europe at the time).
@MaxPayneIzRudog This is true, they're not. What do you mean by Orthodox though. Like Greek or Russian Orthodox? Can't say as I am that familiar with those branches' histories.
@karlmoles65 Eastern Orthodox are the only type of Orthodox Christians. And by that I mean Russians, Serbs, Bulgarins, Greeks, Romanians, Ukrainians, Macedonians and others.
@MaxPayneIzRudog Ok, I'll take your word on it. I have no idea what "Orthodox" means in regards to Christianity except the fact that it's another branch. I know a lot more about Catholics, Baptists, Mormons, etc. You don't get many Orthodox types in the Midwest US.
Répondre à cette vidéo... for example the idea that the time around christmas must be peaceful had been demanded by (the catholic) church in order to prevent wars during the winter, the time when the peasants were the weakest.
Moreover The cathars blamed the church because of their decadence and not for their intolerance their theology were very "puritan"(they wanted a strict reading of the new testament they wear black clothes and they considered that sex is evil)
@mardochee2009 Yeah, I was just using them as an example of Catholic barbarism and intolerance, not saying they were wonderfully pure or anything themselves.
@mardochee2009 I read a book on the Occitan War, and if memory serves me correctly, many of the battles were fought in the winter. On top of that, Montsegur fell at the beginning of March. They had been under siege for over a year. So what is this about no war in the winter? LOL
And also, they didn't view sex as evil, they viewed physical creation as evil, or at least that's what the Inquisitors said who wrote it down. The Cathars wrote nothing that survives. And they wore blue.
@aWorldQuiteMad Why do you write about no war in the winter i don't deny it????!!!!
According to catharism sex was evil as a matter of fact the souls are trapped in flesh because of procreation and procreation consist in sex. Those who received the "consolamentum" mustn't have sex!!!! Sex, beauty, money, food sometimes are traps (like consumption society which consist in sex beauty money ...cf Baudrillard)
Maiden preceded that group so I don't know where you get such a dumb idea as plagiarism. If anyone has plagiarized, it is your White Rat wannabe band.
There seems to be a lot of confusion about the lyric "The book of old testament crippled and black. Satan his weapon is lust. "
So far as I can see it's a reference to the fact that the Cathars believed that the Old Testament was the writing of an equal and opposite entity to the Christian God, ergo, a surrogate for Satan in conventional Christianity.
"Living this evil damnation of flesh, back to the torture of life. " refers to the Cathar doctrine that earth itself is Hell, that worldly . . .
It's "Satan, his weapon is LUST," not "lost" because that would refer to the Bible as being Satan's weapon. And the part about "The book of Old Testament, crippled and black" is referring to how Catholics prostitute the Bible for cash (indulgences, purgatory, tithing), and then pretend to be righteous, while killing those who disagree with them in medieval times and raping little boys in modern times. And in general, representing Christianity very poorly.
@mrbill191715 he knows the obvious ones like run to the hills and the trooper but thats about it. i think ima go with fear of the dark its more classic maiden
@ceabrus mehhh in terms of "classic" Maiden get him Powerslave or Number of the Beast. or you can get him the even earlier ones with paul Dianno. idk Fear of the Dark isn't the best representation of Maiden imo.
@mrbill191715 true but its more classic than dance of death. Besides, like i said he knows most of their earlier stuff...I think i should just burn both of them instead of buying one of the albums lol
@ceabrus get him him Somewhere in Time or Seventh Son they're both a lot better than Fear Of The Dark. Not too classic but Brave New World is amazing. but anyways right on haha. Up The Irons
@IronEd636 Top this: my first Maiden album was "No Prayer for the Dying" and I loved the hell out of that thing. And right after that? "Matter of Life and Death." both of which I've heard are regarded as sort of "meh" Maiden albums by most fans. but IIIII LIIIIIKKKEEE THEMMMMM... (bangs head)
@ironmaidenalways who regards AMoLaD as a "meh" album????? The only "meh" albums by Maiden were the ones released in the 90's, and even that can be debated
@89Wrathchild ohh, just magazines and generic reviews I've read/seen/heard on those albums. *I* haven't heard a single Maiden album that wasn't great, but other people disagree.
@ironmaidenalways granted, I didn't warm to No Prayer immediately, but once I gave it another chance, I found that it's a very strong album. "Public Enema Number One" "Hooks in You" and "The Assassin" are three VERY underrated tracks. Man, I wish Maiden would do a B-Sides tour!!!
@89Wrathchild haha my favorite (of that album) has to be "Mother Russia" though... it just gives me a lot of imagery, and not even from the lyrics, just the way the music is structured. I really like "Hooks In You" too!
@ironmaidenalways ach, how could I forget about that one! I also like "Holy Smoke" just because it's a more light hearted song. The video for it is hilarious.
@ironmaidenalways No Prayer For The Dying's my favourite Maiden album :D Tailgunner, Mother Russia, Bring Your Daughter To The Slaughter, No Prayer For The Dying and Holy Smoke all on one album!
@mrbill191715 Agreed, Get powerslave or number of the beast, Apart from the title track Fear of Dark was very disappointing, the songs are all over the shop and the album feels very disjointed.
This song is crazy awesome. It has the Piece of Mind experimental vibe that NOBODY else could even attempt without sounding like complete jackasses. Heavy metal opera at its finest!
This song is fucking brutal...These guys completely outclass bands half their age...Definitely one of the best songs they've put out in the 21st Century...UP THE MUTHA FUCKIN IRONS USA!!!
Alright - There was a Religious group called the Cathars during the 13th Century. They were persecuted by the Catholic Church during the Crusades and fled to the very small Montsegur "Castle" in France. Even still, they were put under seige, many were executed. Of the 225 Cathars - monks as well as normal citizens - 205 agreed to die rather than recant. They were burned in mass executions at the stake. If there's anything wrong, please correct me.......UP THE IRONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@TheMetalguitarguy I know I been thinking about the sad story of the Cathars all day. I can't believe it even happened, just shows you how evil religion can be.
@TheMetalguitarguy Actually, from what I've read none refused to recant, the number is an estimate only, historians aren't sure how many exactly died, but at least 200. We know some of the garrison actually converted and chose to die instead of going free. The Albigensian Crusade which was waged 1208-1229 failed to wipe the heretics out, so the Medieval Inquisition was founded in 1233. Turning neighbors on each other works well, just ask the Gestapo. Montsegur fell in Mar 1244
ya dude, that was me, I did a book report in grade 10 on AtG and got one of my best marks ever. You pay attention to the comments, that gets you an A+.
@Seargeras Yep it's a castle in France. It was the last stronghold of the Cathars (a branch of christians) until they were massacred there by French knights by order of the Pope. Listen to the lyrics and it gives you a little taste of it, otherwise search either cathars or catharism on good old wikipedia ;)
Dance of Death is the most underrated Album from Iron maiden! I love this album its one of the best album ive ever heard from iron maiden (best english i know)

@mrbill191715 true but its more classic than dance of death. Besides, like i said he knows most of their earlier stuff...I think i should just burn both of them instead of buying one of the albums lol
ceabrus 1 year ago
@ceabrus get him him Somewhere in Time or Seventh Son they're both a lot better than Fear Of The Dark. Not too classic but Brave New World is amazing. but anyways right on haha. Up The Irons
mrbill191715 1 year ago
@mrbill191715 Well... I begin listening Iron maiden with fear of the dark and I think it's not a bad beginning for a new maiden fan.
IronEd636 1 year ago
@IronEd636 Top this: my first Maiden album was "No Prayer for the Dying" and I loved the hell out of that thing. And right after that? "Matter of Life and Death." both of which I've heard are regarded as sort of "meh" Maiden albums by most fans. but IIIII LIIIIIKKKEEE THEMMMMM... (bangs head)
ironmaidenalways 11 months ago 13
@ironmaidenalways have you listened to Final Frontier yet? that's probably the only Maiden album i'd consider 'meh'
plejeune1 11 months ago
@plejeune1 Yep, I actually thought Final Frontier was pretty good but it wasn't like... Maiden GREATNESS.
Best song was "The Talisman"
ironmaidenalways 11 months ago
@ironmaidenalways who regards AMoLaD as a "meh" album????? The only "meh" albums by Maiden were the ones released in the 90's, and even that can be debated
89Wrathchild 7 months ago
@89Wrathchild ohh, just magazines and generic reviews I've read/seen/heard on those albums. *I* haven't heard a single Maiden album that wasn't great, but other people disagree.
ironmaidenalways 7 months ago
@ironmaidenalways granted, I didn't warm to No Prayer immediately, but once I gave it another chance, I found that it's a very strong album. "Public Enema Number One" "Hooks in You" and "The Assassin" are three VERY underrated tracks. Man, I wish Maiden would do a B-Sides tour!!!
89Wrathchild 7 months ago
@89Wrathchild haha my favorite (of that album) has to be "Mother Russia" though... it just gives me a lot of imagery, and not even from the lyrics, just the way the music is structured. I really like "Hooks In You" too!
ironmaidenalways 7 months ago
@ironmaidenalways ach, how could I forget about that one! I also like "Holy Smoke" just because it's a more light hearted song. The video for it is hilarious.
89Wrathchild 7 months ago
@ironmaidenalways No Prayer For The Dying's my favourite Maiden album :D Tailgunner, Mother Russia, Bring Your Daughter To The Slaughter, No Prayer For The Dying and Holy Smoke all on one album!
MrShaggyJosh 6 months ago
@MrShaggyJosh wow. Can't say it's my favorite, you top me. XP
ironmaidenalways 6 months ago
@MrShaggyJosh All of Maiden's albums are my favorite, except for the ones with Blaze Bailey. For some reason, his vocals weren't Maiden.
LouGruff 5 months ago
@mrbill191715 Agreed, Get powerslave or number of the beast, Apart from the title track Fear of Dark was very disappointing, the songs are all over the shop and the album feels very disjointed.
tinclunge123 1 year ago
@ceabrus Haha. Get him The Final Frontier.

Oh...the Holy Grail is supposedly somewhere in Montsegur
TheMetalguitarguy 1 year ago

I can't believe it even happened, just shows you how evil religion can be.
exbladex99 1 year ago
@TheMetalguitarguy Actually, from what I've read none refused to recant, the number is an estimate only, historians aren't sure how many exactly died, but at least 200. We know some of the garrison actually converted and chose to die instead of going free. The Albigensian Crusade which was waged 1208-1229 failed to wipe the heretics out, so the Medieval Inquisition was founded in 1233. Turning neighbors on each other works well, just ask the Gestapo. Montsegur fell in Mar 1244

FanOfMe26 1 year ago
@Seargeras Yep it's a castle in France. It was the last stronghold of the Cathars (a branch of christians) until they were massacred there by French knights by order of the Pope. Listen to the lyrics and it gives you a little taste of it, otherwise search either cathars or catharism on good old wikipedia ;)
anyway beyond all that WHAT A FUCKING TUNE!!! :D
