What I want to know is what is going on with the plastics we are putting in our recycling bins? I've tried to live plastic free but it's nearly impossible. So use your plastic and dispose of it RESPONSIBLY. RECYCLE PEOPLE!!! It's not hard.
According to the Mayan Calendar, this time is where humanity wakes up to the web of life and cares for every living thing, or once again repeats thru destruction the lesson to be learned. humanity is learning and that is why we are here, to learn. trashing the place is the lesson. we cant continue to live here if we trash it. that is plain simple. the oceans will rise up, make the japan tsunami look like a summer rain. dont live in any coastal areas. imho. redeposit plastic back on land.
@Davincciable But if people would stop being ignorant and flat out lazy, this wouldn't be a sad world. We can do something about it and stop it from becoming a disaster.
Not enough is done by all, yet the worst are companies that generate so much trash and don't recycle. Let's start by getting the bottle companies to take back and recycle all those bottles. If each bottle was refunded a dime, there wouldn't be a single bottle on the ground.

Plastic is clogging up the world's oceans, landfills, natural habitats and streets. Heavily taxing the use of non bio-degradable plastics would stop the damage plastic causes. To do exactly that please sign a petition on robsspace.co.uk. This must end, thank you. Please thumbs up this so others can also help to save the world from damage plastic causes to nature, thank you.
@timemachine05 Heavy taxes are not necessary, a simple bottle deposit would take care of the problem. I live in a state where there is a 10 cent charge per bottle of soda sold. When you consume the drink, you return the empty container to a store that sells soda, and they give you your dime back. For some reason, non-carbonated drinks do not have a bottle deposit. I very rarely see carbonated drink containers in trash cans, or on the side of the road. Non-deposit however, I see everywhere.
This problem could be easily solved if the United Nations got involved. this seems like a perfect case for them to get involved they get all this foreign aid and they give it to countries that don't really deserve it and will most likely keep killing each other. So why not spend a few billion cleaning up the ocean and start looking more reputable.
Another obvious thing to do while we figure out the bigger problems is to stop making orange and red colored plastic, especially little things in these colors, then the birds and fish won't be going, "Ohhh that looks tasty!" I can't believe I'm the only one in the entire universe to think of this....no wait yes i can, I'm a genius and you're all dumb :D Anyway, this is what i demand, and this is what will happen! Make it so!!
Here in Japan everybody is quite diligent in their garbage separation, organics, plastics and glass etc but it all seems to be a gigantic scam....we are legally required to separate our garbage for recycling purposes, but i read they take it all away and dump most of it in land fills because there's just way too much for the recycling industry to handle...another huge portion of it gets taken to city incinerators and burnt!! And they wonder why we're so cynical..sigh..
It is capitalism alright. When companies do not pay anything for the raw materials they extract from our Planet (how much does an oil company pay for the oil they take from earth - and nobody effing tell me that the costs of the operation has anything to do with the real price of planetary resources), they will be indifferent with the removal of their trash. Let a plastic bottle be $ 5.00 WITHOUT content and we will see change.
OPEN LETTER TO COMPANIES........ STOP FUCKING USING PLASTIC, YOU ARE FUCKING EVERYTHING UP. (As if they care, we are all fucked, money talks). We have little chance of this getting better. You can do everything you can to help, but it is SOOOOO obviously futile.
this is just an other sign we cant continue the way we're going. how do we fix this? well for starters get rid of money and completely rebuild the system. as long as money is around and people are addicted to it (greediness) our destruction of the earth will only speed up and the day will come where it will be too late.
@radzievicius futher than that though, money is just a symptom of that dark human need to feel "better" than someone else...if we eliminate money , it will be replaced by something else to continue the human tragedy of needing to be superior. Some people just can't seem to be happy unless their happiness is at the expense of shitloads of other people. What we really need is a spiritual awakening...not religion, but true awareness of who and what we are
@psydwaindah fuck man, youre spot on. im completely 100% in agreement with what you just said. if we understand love (as a whole) people will no longer want to be better than others, they will want to help others. that goes with the spiritual awakening. btw, do you feel like in the near future (not necessarily dec 21 2012) we will come about this spiritual awakening? i do. definitely do. i think for now though, all we can do is spread love and show people what theyre told is rarely ever true.
Wow. This is insane. We've been recycling most of our plastics for a while, now. I think that more people should, quite apparently. Biodegradable plastics may not be such a bad idea for many products to be made out of, when possible? I remember that the beer cups at the Virgin Music Festival were made from biodegradable plastic. Props to Sir Richard Branson for that. I intuitively supported biogradable plastics several years ago when I started having major psychic experiences. Now I know why.
Better solution for all you earth saving hippies, GIVE UP YOUR PRE PACKAGED MENUFACTURED SHIT AND MAKE IT YOURSELF AT HOME AND ONLY PRODUCE OR BUY WHAT YOU NEED. Pay attention next time you grab a packaged stirrer at the convenience store, open it, throw the wrapper in the little trash hole, stir ur coffee, and throw the otherwise perfectly good stick out. Yeah, that's a lot of packaging. Ever consider giving up your wasteful modern consumerist life styles to change the world? Didn't think so
If the U.S. government spend 25% of the amount of money they blow on weapon technology on cleaning up the earth we would probably be crystal clean in about 20 years!!!
After the next apocalyse sea-vegetation will cover the trash and after a while they will become "floating islands". Creatures will eventually find these landmasses and populate them. The surviving people will then discover these islands once civilization is reestablished. The Earth will then have 2 more continents called the Land of Ooo and the Land of Aaa. Problem mother nature?
The human spirit certainly got quashed by a monied economy. Can't wait for the day when human spirit rises above its assassin: animal nature. Meantime, remember - less plastic and throw away items, dispose of plastic thoughtfully. Think recycle wherever possible. World is in enough strife already. This video bears that out very precisely. Peace,
WOW look how many bottle caps the one ate thats some epic( doing your part to clean up ) i literally dont doubt that bird died from the stomach lining being filled with plastic to max
Problem. When we collect garbage we bring it to the dumpster, dump, disposal site. Whatever. Then it just sits there in a pile getting bigger and bigger. Wind grabs things off, takes it away. This doesnt solve the issue. Maybe a better way to deal with whats collected should be a start. Conservation first tho! On another side, why cant we recycle the caps from the bottles too? And the little rings? Those dont seem to get thought of in the "dealing with it" part.
@Normydw ,,,,, Yes,,,,,,,,, True the caps are not recycled at all they are all removed and thrown away and if you look in any street you will see caps more than bottles because in some states there is a redeemable deposit on the bottles with or without the caps ... Now with all those caps at the recycling plants they should be able to
grind them up and make something ! ...Whenever I see bottle caps on the street I think of the sea birds in this video that ate bottle caps by mistake of food..
@Normydw you can recycle the plastic caps u just gotta find a place where you can take it to - whole foods recycles everything although u will still see bozoz throwing plastic in the compost bin when it specifically shows w/pics like actual real pics that this is compost - u just have to find a facility like it and actually care and help all kinds of plastic is recyclable even all plastic bags - trust me I would know!
We aren't just losing the war on this ocean trash issue - we have already lost. As time rolls by these negative issues will solidify and hit the Critical mass stage. Just watch as this becomes more apparent in the ocean and in all things. There are an additional 100 million people added to the earth's population EACH YEAR! 1,5000,000,000 people do not have clean drinking water. The C church and the right wing Evans are set on preventing abortion, Family planning, Birth control, etc.
well, we could do what that guy did with his spiral island. stabilize the boarders with nets, cover with sand/compost, and plant systematically with plants that will first lock in the mass and then soil on the surface. its out on the ocean so you are going to need stills to distill water from the ocean into fresh water on the island to sustain plant life and possibly some small animals eventually. once water is on the island in sufficient quantity you can set up a recycling system
once you have a a basic eco system on the surface, then turn your attention to the underside. take foam as a base material and mold it to the bottom piece by piece, then take each peace and cover it with a thin layer of concrete to provide a slightly more natural surface to attach coral to and insure that they grow over the cracks to insure more stabilty. be careful to allow space for saltwater flow into the main underside of the island through the coral shell. a containment system.
this system contains the current garbage load both above and below in an animal friendly fashion which is appealing to the eye. next, move the island to shallow waters and let the coral grow to the bottom. once it is attached to the ocean floor we can begin systematically removing the plastic for recycling in a way which will not disturb the new eco system. for new plastic deposits, we gather it together and form smaller islands to act as a buffer against the waves and more plastic.
@Bellezababy24 its true change wont happen until its basically 2 late and its starts mass raining acid or something...the bird was epic it ate a fucking lighter hahaha
We should have one day a year where everyone goes around and picks up plastic. kind of like easter where you go and find it. Then you take it to a government facility to be disposed of properly.
@jennid51 YES ! ...Thank you Jennid........ I go to beach here often and always bring a bag and clean up the beach and often fill the bag and clean the entire beach . Many times the bag is already there and I just fill it ... Then I can take photos of the beauty of the beach and enjoy the beach ... Makes me fell good anyway ..Alan
@jennid51 We have "Clean Up Australia Day" in March every year, where people are encouraged to go out and collect rubbish in Australia. Not everyone does this though.
litter whatever trash you make so you can stop pretending it disappears when you throw it in a can. TH ad council with the environmentalism means dont litter campaign, was paid for by the companies who profited off of the excessive use of disposables. dont litter isnt an environmentalist message, it is to perpetuate a myth that everything ismt part of a cycle.
We dont see that in most US cities, but I bet most of these pics are from foreign coutries like india, bangladesh, pakastan, indonesia, china etc. around here its a crime to litter, you get fined and jail time, do you get fined and jail time for littering in these other countries? And does the government dispose of garbage the proper way instead of throwing it in the ocean????????????
If all plastic and glass bottles had a refund on them (like the old days!) paid for by the manufacturers as part of their committment and levy for the rubbish their products created, there would be a massive collection by kids and recycling business would spring up all over the world.
I have also proposed that old ships, naval and commercial be changed into floating recycling vessels, scooping up trash as they sail around the oceans - if i had the money i'd do it myself!
@WorldWideWarrior1 use the navy as recyclers? why not they rape the navy for everything else. fucking bullshit idiot idead. yes first institute gay marriage in ther navy like they are now then let the huge billion dollar ships that should be used for coastal defense be used as garbage scows what a great idea!
@altaqqadum96 dear oh dear oh dear, would that people learn to read properly before venting their own pent up aggression...i meant OLD AS IN RETIRED NAVY VESSELS - and fishermen who are complaining about their lousy fish catches - theres money in garbage and theres more of that in the oceans than fish! Lucky im a peaceful buddhist and dont get upset with miscomprehension. heart you!
Recycling is better than nothing but it is not really the answer. The answer is to STOP using plastic. Especially plastic water bottles. Why doesn't everyone try this, don't bye anything in plastic for 1 week, if it is easy keep doing this. It is actually easier than we think. Next thing they will start selling us air in plastic bottles. Peace
Plastic is a continues menace to the environment today and to our heath, It causes relies of highly toxic substance, such as Bxide, Benzene and Xylenes. Beside from hurting the eco-system these chemicals cases huge damage to humans and animals alike, everything from births defects, cancer to damage the nervous system and the immune system, affect the blood and kidneys.
@livefrom201 So true ... It all is sad to me .... every where I go I see plastic all over the place ... I wish more people would pick it up and stop littering it ....
All these images are very sad, however there are no images here of "the pacific trash island" because it simply does not exist. the plastic breaks down and gets consumed by plankton which is problem of its own. So it may be more productive to divert you youtube resources raising awareness of that.
Sadly, no, it doesn't break down in the sense that the chemistry is changed, nor is it digested to any great degree.
The absolute best approach would be to find something in the fungus kingdom that isn't harmful itself that can actually digest plastic.
Past that, we can stop using plastic, or develop plastics that have a much lower impact on the environment, which is already being done to a considerable extent, the best example is the biodegradable soy based plastics.
I myself have been a loyal litterer in my community for year's. I will try to do more in my part to dump my crap off into the ocean watter's and further pollute the environment this I promise....Feed the oceans barrel's of Oil and freely empty your trash.
where do you think all of our recylced electronics go? Third world countries where there resold to people who melt the shit down for the preciouse metals. The bi-product is thrown into the waters.
good job world, really, pat yourselves on the back. digusting

The C church and the right wing Evans are set on preventing abortion, Family planning, Birth control, etc.

well, we could do what that guy did with his spiral island. stabilize the boarders with nets, cover with sand/compost, and plant systematically with plants that will first lock in the mass and then soil on the surface. its out on the ocean so you are going to need stills to distill water from the ocean into fresh water on the island to sustain plant life and possibly some small animals eventually. once water is on the island in sufficient quantity you can set up a recycling system
britany0 1 month ago
once you have a a basic eco system on the surface, then turn your attention to the underside. take foam as a base material and mold it to the bottom piece by piece, then take each peace and cover it with a thin layer of concrete to provide a slightly more natural surface to attach coral to and insure that they grow over the cracks to insure more stabilty. be careful to allow space for saltwater flow into the main underside of the island through the coral shell. a containment system.
britany0 1 month ago
this system contains the current garbage load both above and below in an animal friendly fashion which is appealing to the eye. next, move the island to shallow waters and let the coral grow to the bottom. once it is attached to the ocean floor we can begin systematically removing the plastic for recycling in a way which will not disturb the new eco system. for new plastic deposits, we gather it together and form smaller islands to act as a buffer against the waves and more plastic.

We should have one day a year where everyone goes around and picks up plastic. kind of like easter where you go and find it. Then you take it to a government facility to be disposed of properly.
jennid51 5 months ago 13
@jennid51 YES ! ...Thank you Jennid........ I go to beach here often and always bring a bag and clean up the beach and often fill the bag and clean the entire beach . Many times the bag is already there and I just fill it ... Then I can take photos of the beauty of the beach and enjoy the beach ... Makes me fell good anyway ..Alan

litter whatever trash you make so you can stop pretending it disappears when you throw it in a can. TH ad council with the environmentalism means dont litter campaign, was paid for by the companies who profited off of the excessive use of disposables. dont litter isnt an environmentalist message, it is to perpetuate a myth that everything ismt part of a cycle.

this has changed my views so much im going to stop doing anything an wait till i starve to death....wait do i have to be naked so i fully decompose?
gozney1987 5 months ago

WorldWideWarrior1 6 months ago
@WorldWideWarrior1 use the navy as recyclers? why not they rape the navy for everything else. fucking bullshit idiot idead. yes first institute gay marriage in ther navy like they are now then let the huge billion dollar ships that should be used for coastal defense be used as garbage scows what a great idea!
altaqqadum96 5 months ago

Peace

All these images are very sad, however there are no images here of "the pacific trash island" because it simply does not exist. the plastic breaks down and gets consumed by plankton which is problem of its own. So it may be more productive to divert you youtube resources raising awareness of that.
cowlicks666 9 months ago
@cowlicks666
