are we ever going to see an actor playing Sherlock Holmes play violin/fiddle without only screeching...maybe Robert Downey Jr in the Sherlock sequel perhaps?
Are you familiar with the short violin strain that is looped on the box set DVD menu? It's so lovely and I've never been able to place it. I don't recall it being used in any of the episodes.I always wonder who played it and what the piece is.
This video was very interesting. I loved this scene.

Only one problem here. Sarasate's concerts were sell-outs.

lol this is Bach's partita N°3 in E major (played like Paganini's Moto perpetuo xD)

I thought it was the artist not composer that Sherlock Holmes mentioned as Sarasate. I mean, Holmes went Sarasate's playing Bach.

It's a miracle his mustache doesn't get caught in the bow. heheh.
Watson's so ghey for Holmes. It's soooo obvious.

How do we know that he's imitating Sarasate?
msiu 5 years ago
There's a recording of Sarasate, in 1903, playing the same piece, the Preludio by Bach, in extremely fast speed.

we know that hes imitating Sarasate because it say so in the Sherlock Holmes 'canon'. hehe yes i know i'm a geek!

..and the part in this episode where holmes says "sarasate is playing at the st james hall!" was a dead giveaway

Apart from the canon, here's another hint: go search for Sarasate's picture. The makeup man did a pretty good job.:) Dukov looks so much like him^_^
