It's not really that much different. Your section of hair will need to be a bit thicker than usual. I wind half of the hair round the wooden pole like in my video and then I back comb. Then once I'm happy with that, I just untie the hair and wind the back combed bit round the pole and then repeat with the loose hair on the other side. Your back combing method should be no different to what you do all ready.
Honestly it's really a personal preference. I've tried using pet combs and they didn't work for me but the combs I use do. You just have to find a comb that suits you really so you'll probably need to do a bit of trial and error to see.
