the light is a rev limit warming light. it warns you when to shift the latest possible and prevents you from 'over revving' too much

It's almost certainly transmission whine. I'm not sure if this one has straight cut gears but even without and with soundproofing removed you would be able to hear noises like this. My car sounds like this in first gear for some reason! It sounds like a police siren.

Having had a look at the 996 rally cars for sale, there are plenty, none are turbocharged.

Apparantly some light single mass flywheels actually contribute to a whining noise/gear rattle.

As I said before in another comment, it's Yannick Bodson. He's not even a pro driver, he owns a bar but he definitely knows how to drive. You can't see it clearly in the video but the downhill at 0:40 is almost at 45°, it's realy crazy!

In Belgium, Porsches compete in a GT class. The only other car I've seen in this class was a Nissan 350Z. Which couldn't match the Porsche performance...

the red light is for gear change...that light flashes faster as the motor goes to a higher revolution per minute or RPM .
