listen how clever the lyrics are relating about bumble bees and honey your bee hive is full of bees I wish you had a place for me and the music is killing and what voices they could do it all lost in today's music
This song delivers a small glimpse of just how magical life was back in the mid 70's compared to now. So many memories, good and bad, are locked up in the music.
Yes, I was smokin alot back then, smoke some much it took me 14 years to get through college. When I say "Genius", I mean anytime you can cut an album in 9 days and have it go platinum, you have to admit either you where lucky or a genius during that time and space.
While my friends where into the Ojays and the stylistics, I was into the Players because I played drums in high school. Its was just something different about their music which sounded unique with the strings, horns, bass and guitar. After watching Unsung featuring the Players I now understand the attraction, "Collectively they where musical geniuses".
Ohio Players were an awesome band..a little raunchy and to me they exploit women with the album covers not cool...but other than that,,they were fabulous musicians a little different than EWF of course but very good..
I remember looking through my uncle's albums as a child and seeing the Ohio Players with the different ladies. Wow! I need to get those albums. They are collector's items in today's age of MP3s and IPODs. I miss the 70s.
I vaguely recall the album cover. To a 4 year old me and my 6 year old cousin, it was damn near porn! (seems like I recall it opened all the way to reveal the lady's full "sticky" body LOL!) I remember me and my cousin would take opportunities to sneak looks at the album cover and although no one specifically told us we couldn't look, I still recall the strange mixture of shame, curiosity, and fascination that the album cover invoked in me...
This track is one of the smoothest, funkiest cuts ever. It doesn't get any funkier than this. The sax and bass solo simply flows rhythmically. TVONE recently put together a good documentary on the Ohio Players. Check it out if you can.
@SeeMeFlow I saw the documentary on the Ohio Players, and was good. SUGARFOOT was truly old school from day one, especially with Heaven Must Be Like This, my favorite!
@dancinonasmoothedge I know they had it going on but you know with alot of the groups of many years ago. someone gets greedy and it mess up for everyone.
@dancinonasmoothedge I watch it also and it was sad to know that one of their group members put them all in the hole. I think that is what breaks alot of groups up either "money or "drugs".
@dancinonasmoothedge SAW THE SAME PROGRAM. YOU CAN REALLY SEE WHAT THE BROTHAS HAD. THIS WAS A TRUE BAND OF MUSICIANS . THIS MUSIC WILL CONTINUE TO LAST BECAUSE IT REAL.
I remember riding on my skate board across the Bay bridge listening DJ Bob White spin this on KDIA, back in the day headed to the Monterey Jazz Festival. "Da da da daa aah. Da da da daa aah Sweet, sweet sticky thing"
it's a coincidence that u ask the Q; where is she..when i was just looking at my friends from that cover..the Brothers Smith,,who were the models w. her, sadly one of them past years ago..Edward & Mitchell Smith..Bronx was there Home..the woman ,yes she was a beautiful sista for sure...Ohio Players were the Joint back n the days..Miss them ..where r u fellas and yes where is she,,lol...Create..
Their album covers were always very simple and effective. A female model doing something suggestively sexual, the album title, and the group's name. That's all. And it worked. Looking at this cover, I wonder who was the model and where is she now. I'm sure she's somebody's grandmother now. I think the 1970s was the first decade to start showing that black people are beautiful. Black is beautiful.
Ohhh how we 50 somethings took our musical geniuses for granted....look what kind of @#%%** we have here in the early 21st century.....first goes the culture, then total collapse....just ask the Romans.....
@navet1953 You couldn't have said it better. While I expected that musical styles and tastes would change over the years, I never invisioned a time when music did not involve singers or musicians. Now all you need is a DJ and mic. Pathetic.
@navet1953 well it's your generations "musical geniuses" that are running the show TODAY. plus, if you don't want to listen to our @#%%** then don't listen to it. It's funny though because you're generation probably knows about half of what a modern day sampler knows. We know good music. And we know bad music. But it's nothing to get all huffy puffy about.
@TheTapeExam You're absolutely right we dont have to listen to todays crap and we dont. Thank GOD for the internet, satellite radio, and old school radio so we can hear some REAL music. Why dont you go "sample" American Idol and watch some of your generations important people like Snooki!
@dutty1able Thank MY Generation, because we invented all that shit. And you must be 50 something because you seem to be closer to going senile and ignorant every second. You 50 somethings are just stuck in the past. And we don't like to "sample" our own music because were too busy pissing you older people off by "sampling" your important people.
@fr33th3t The Roots, Adele, Amy Winehouse, Anthony Hamilton, Ledisi, Raphael Saadiq, D'Angelo, Joss Stone, Maxwell, Governor, and Suck It. (that last one wasn't an artist, it was an idea). That's just the top of my head gramps. Stop being such a damned prune eating, diaper wearing, ignorant old man and realize that the artists of today could go head to head (or even surpass) the old school.
They have just as good lyrics, melodies, production/instrumentation as the ancestors.
best song ever they dont make music like this no more/////

Their album covers were always very simple and effective. A female model doing something suggestively sexual, the album title, and the group's name. That's all. And it worked. Looking at this cover, I wonder who was the model and where is she now. I'm sure she's somebody's grandmother now. I think the 1970s was the first decade to start showing that black people are beautiful. Black is beautiful.

Ohhh how we 50 somethings took our musical geniuses for granted....look what kind of @#%%** we have here in the early 21st century.....first goes the culture, then total collapse....just ask the Romans.....
navet1953 8 months ago 30
@navet1953 You couldn't have said it better. While I expected that musical styles and tastes would change over the years, I never invisioned a time when music did not involve singers or musicians. Now all you need is a DJ and mic. Pathetic.

Nah, it ain't that simple. Wish it was, but it ain't.

@navet1953 ... Man, I dunno whether that's nonchalant cynicism or cynical nonchalance, but either way I like your style.
rob57uk 6 months ago
@navet1953 well it's your generations "musical geniuses" that are running the show TODAY. plus, if you don't want to listen to our @#%%** then don't listen to it. It's funny though because you're generation probably knows about half of what a modern day sampler knows. We know good music. And we know bad music. But it's nothing to get all huffy puffy about.

@TheTapeExam You're absolutely right we dont have to listen to todays crap and we dont. Thank GOD for the internet, satellite radio, and old school radio so we can hear some REAL music. Why dont you go "sample" American Idol and watch some of your generations important people like Snooki!
dutty1able 6 months ago
@dutty1able Thank MY Generation, because we invented all that shit. And you must be 50 something because you seem to be closer to going senile and ignorant every second. You 50 somethings are just stuck in the past. And we don't like to "sample" our own music because were too busy pissing you older people off by "sampling" your important people.

@TheTapeExam if you tried to sample from "your generation" you'd have nothing to sample.
fr33th3t 6 months ago 3
@fr33th3t The Roots, Adele, Amy Winehouse, Anthony Hamilton, Ledisi, Raphael Saadiq, D'Angelo, Joss Stone, Maxwell, Governor, and Suck It. (that last one wasn't an artist, it was an idea). That's just the top of my head gramps. Stop being such a damned prune eating, diaper wearing, ignorant old man and realize that the artists of today could go head to head (or even surpass) the old school.
They have just as good lyrics, melodies, production/instrumentation as the ancestors.
Have a nice day :P
