My sister got swine flu a few days ago, and it spread to my mother and I. My mom wasn't able to collect me from my school, and I had to walk home, taking 2 hours, in the dark, cold and rain. When I got home and saw she was sick, I went to her room and gave her some meds and water. She was coughing a lot. After I went downstairs, I got symptoms after about 10-15 minutes... The worst part is the fever and the headache. And the nightmares I've been having when I do fall asleep...

I have serious doubt of any link between vaccines and autism. If there were links, there was no scholarly evidence brought to light (which is not to say it's impossible, but rather unlikely). Regardless, I'm very confident the new vaccines (especially one as simple as flu) are completely safe. The only issue is whether they offer protection against the specific strain of the year. I have serious doubt of any link between vaccines and autism. If there were links, there was no scholarly evidence brought to light (which is not to say it's impossible, but rather unlikely). Regardless, I'm very confident the new vaccines (especially one as simple as flu) are completely safe. The only issue is whether they offer protection against the specific strain of the year. It's kind of a crap shoot. I agree vaccines must remain a free choice and not become mandatory.

Swine Flu is still vulnerable to oseltamivir and zanamivir. I'm not especially worried, but I will definitely be getting my flu vaccine as a BSc with a major in cellular molecular and microbial biology. I can't believe how frightened people are of vaccines. As someone educated on the topic, they're so important to maintaining health of the whole population. Even if I didn't get mine free as a volunteer first-aider, I'd pay for it.

Vaccines are better now.. but still I am not taking a vaccine for something that I should be able to fight off myself. I am in my 30's and don't get the flu shot of any kind. And I never get the flu (so its pointless) I wish they could titer people....

I completely agree that vaccines should be free choice because we live in a free society, but the benefit of vaccines is to a population, not to an individual. You can completely eliminate viruses altogether if the vaccination campaign involves everyone. Let's not forget smallpox. Let's not forget Typhoid Mary and how well outbreaks were controlled with vaccinations.

I actually agree that the level of reporting is disproportionate to the problem, but the string pullers in this case are the World Health Organization, and media (which makes money promoting crises). I do think we should be watchful of medical companies that stand to profit, but it's not just one industry that benefits in a crisis.
