@BabyButterfly00 of course it's a plot device, but it used to happen a lot. parents couldn't get off work, but wanted their kids to: know their relatives, have a vacation, and leave so the parents could get time to themselves. before social security and unions, grandparents raised the kids while the parents worked. the farther we get from then, the more parents are viewed as the absolute caretakers of their kids. 20-30 years ago, an aunt or uncle taking over those duties for a while wasn't weird
