Beautiful and haunting. Whenever I hear this the image of poor Warley being swept away to his doom is still painful. A genius film only enhanced by the genius music played.
....the scene towards the end when the dead crew of HMS Surprise, are laid down in a row, being prepared for burial. There wasn't a dry-eye in the theatre!
I am going to propose to my wife with this music on :)
Just kidding but wonderful music very romantic it's like going to a date at a classical music concert w someone u love or remembering your prom night; whatever enjoy the music...
LA MUSICA DE FANTASIA DE TALLIS LA USARON EN UNA PELICULA ESPAÑOLA LLAMADA REMANDO AL VIENTO DE GONZALO SUAREZ, MASTER AND COMMANDER PLAGIARON LA ESTETICA, Y LA MUSICA PUESTA the music Tallis FANTASY FILM USED IN A SPANISH movie 1987 CALL remanto al viento GONZALO SUAREZ, MASTER AND COMMANDER plagiarized the AESTHETIC, AND MUSIC START
Not middle eastern but modal: slightly different intervals between the steps in the scale. Modes were an attempt to recreate the scales that the ancient Greeks used, almost certainly not accurate since they're based on a regular old diatonic scale.
This is one of my favourite pieces of music, and the two instances in which it sounds during the movie are unforgettable. Whenever I say the Lord's Prayer, now, I think of this.
a very long time ago i heard this for the very first time, it was the musical accompaniment to a piece of animation before the main feature at the local cinema (superman the movie), i remembered it for the next 15 years before i came across it once more quite by chance. Spellbinding piece of music, i adore it
I have been familiar with this gorgeous musical piece for some time. Though the use of it in this movie was a good idea, I wish the full composition was presented on the soundtrack. The best rendition of this piece I have heard was done in the early 1970's by the Academy of St. Martin in the Fields. The CD is still in print and also contains Vaughn's The Lark Ascending, Fantasia on Greensleeves and the absolute rapturous Five Variants of Divis & Lazarus. Check em' out Opus, and every one else.
Brilliant piece of music for such a sad scene.....*sniffs*

Great movie and great composition. Whoever wrapped together the soundtrack of Master and Commander definitely knew what he was doing.

This scene, where poor Warley is left to his lonely death is the most powerful in the whole film.

LOL. She's not going to sing it. It will be used only as an overture to her concerts in Asia.
