my dance studio has a dance to this song, its about four girls and they are all katie. one girls is anorexic, one beaten, one on drugs, and one who hated life and was teased and cut herself. at the end they all take off their little chains, and bracelets that resemble what theyve gone through and it shows that they are free finally. i think katie is anyone who has an issue and she resembles them all. this dance makes me cry b/c its touching. it wins at competition every time.

This song could be about suicide but it could also be about an eating disorder. I'm not sure what Missy Higgins wrote it about. As for Katie commiting suicide if she's a real person then it's very possible.

@loloa10 No, you ever hear the saying, "something to drown the pain" it refers to drugs, I think this song is meant to be about drug addiction but you can always take your own meaning from it. she says "I have control over me" which is something drug addicts say alot, that "they have control, and can quite whenever they want" when in reality its the drugs that have control.also she says "can you draw the line" which may have a few meanings but can be a line of coke or other snorted drugs.

I think it's a good song for people who have struggled in their lives with control, addiction, and depression. I like this song a lot. :)
