  • More PLEASE!!!!!!!!!

  • Brilliant!!!

  • That's GREAT!:) thanks for posting this - I love the old recording and the new film picture, so...

  • @mlledefer YAY!!! Thanks so much for stopping by. :)

  • the 2000 version kicked ass. Not seen the 73 version yet but i don't know how it's gonna compare

  • @thetwilightzone100 Check out the 1970 Original Cast Recording first. (the OCR is the one with the simple brown cover with the double faced angels.) I think the '73 version is the movie soundtrack. IMHO, the movie "acting" was rather hokey. Nevertheless some people favor Ted Neely's vocal performance as Jesus over Ian Gillan's (who performed on the 1970 OCR.) However, I disagree. Musically, emotionally, and sonically speaking the 1970 OCR out rocks them all!! :D

  • LOL AT JESUS !!! 0:39

  • @LachanceAdrian JESUSSSSS and there THOR came out....

  • BRILLIANT. I grew up with the older version on lp and prefer the soundtrack still, but i love the visuals of the 2000 version (and Jérôme Pradon's perferormance rocks).

  • i have to say this is pretty impressive Hipster55

  • uhh - the 2000 sucks

  • This is another good idea, I too liked the original version track but the Millemium version does an excllent job again of showing WE are so fickle and frail

-by Faith and Grace alone brothers and sisters...

  • As a video project this is pretty good but really to be perfectly honest each version brings a distinctiveness to each singers interpretation of the role. Mashing one version with the video of another mixes it up a little bit too much for my liking.

The original will always be best in my opinion. With the 1973 feature film a close second mainly because of it;s setting and the fact the actors are depicted putting on a show.

The 2000 version was ok as a modern interpretation though imo.

  • Dude!! This is awesome! I think as you do. Nothing beats the original. IAN is GOD!!!

  • The 2000 version was awful, but the concept album--heck yes! I'm biased, since that's what I was raised on, but Murray Head and Ian Gillian are THE Judas and Jesus for JCS. Hands down. This was a brilliant idea, you should do Gethsemane as well!

  • I love what you have done! Fantastic, thank you!!

  • The movie sucked, but the original recording is awesome.

  • @Thatfunnylookinggirl, huh!? This is a mashup of the 2000 video to the OCR Audio... Even if Ted was in this, he's not singing. Besides... Ian is the best Jesus.... forever and ever AMEN! ;-)

  • @Hipster55 You're insane. I'm calling the police.

  • @Hipster55 I dont know....This one guy about 2000 years ago did better i think

  • @uffm Agreed!!

  • ok, this is my last word on the subject

and bear in mind I ACTUALLY PLAYED THE PART

Get the cut called Gesthiminie from both versions

Listen to both, Gillian's & Neely's - specifically near the end: "I'll DIE"

If the goose bumps don't convince you of Gillian's superiority, you probably have never been a musician of any kind, and have an uninformed opinion.

  • sucks

  • @ChristieFystiki aw come on now..... why u say that? Whats wrong with it!!?

  • @Hipster55 if you had related to the '70s stage production and of course, the '73 movie version of JCS as much as I have, you wouldn't have to ask.. This version seems to me that it's mocking this genious work, and honestly I can't believe Webber agreed to this interpretation of the play.. it lacks the seriousness of the movie and I'm sorry but, the cast of the '70s film it's just not to be compared with this.. Neeley and Anderson were gods..

  • @ChristieFystiki

    yeah, how does it suck

this is the best version hands down

  • This version sucks

  • @TheManurules which part the video or the original cast recording I used?

  • @Hipster55 the orignal has so much emontion i give you credit you gave emotion to this dead horrible version but that is thanks to the better version but still the video of the 2000 version is still bad its empty they try so hard to connect with people in our age and it doesnt fit ... this version is WAY better then the 2000 but not better then the OG

  • When I say I based my approach to the singing on Ian Gillian...

OK, I basically did an impression of him.

It sure sounded better than MY voice.

My natural voice is more like Neely and I HATE IT.

  • As someone who has played Jesus in a local production of Superstar, I based my approach to the singing on Ian Gillian.

I never got to see it on Broadway, to my infinite regret, but I knew every note & every word to every part.

I did see the 1973 movie with Ted Neely, and I swear before God that I could have done a better job.

His singing was anemic, wimpy & even sounded like he had stuffy sinuses.

If they couldn't get Gillian & Head as well as Elliman, they shouldn't have green lighted it.

  • @dst257 honestly, I think Neeley gave Jesus character a more human attitude, and besides I don't think he had to be the best tenor to be successful in the role. His vocals were good, maybe Gillan's were slightly more what Webber had envisioned, still.. I think he nailed the part. You couldn't have sung it better, but you could've sung it differently.. Each performance adds new depth. There are of course directions as to how the singer should portay Jesus, but there's not ONE certain way to do it

  • Damn fine job Mashing the two versions together. I truly love the Original version but enjoyed watching the 2000 version. Great work putting these two together.

  • I love this! What I disliked most about the 2000 version was Judas' voice. It was like a crying whiny wimp. The guy is a good actor and has a great voice but I disliked "how" he decided to sing Judas. The original Judas was the best, probably why he was nominated. The other thing I didn't like about the 2000 version was Jesus smiling too much. He didn't have the son-of-God like smile that a Jesus should have.

  • Does anyone else think that Jesus looks like Robert Plant?

  • some kind of funny to see Jerome Pradon and hear another voice singing the song :D

but it fits really good together

    very nice vid. *Thumb up*

  • I'd like to hear Phil Collins singing this song.

  • Thanks for making this version good!

  • uha.. that was the whole point dude! Next time try reading the description. Thanks for stopping by.

  • Not much of a hipster.... Um.. that's Murray Heads voice you used to cover up this 2000 version. Actually pretty stupid.

  • I prefer the original 1970 OCR version then that of the 1973 movie of Jesus Christ Superstar.

  • @54nomore me too, my friend!! :)))

  • @54nomore yeah me too :D

  • This is the original judas from the album "Jesus Christ Superstar."

  • @54nomore yes it is... and I mashed it with the video from the 2000 movie! heheh

  • I like the original recording too. All of the others really don't keep up the pace of each song except for the new ones that came out in the movie, "Could We Start Again, Please? and "Then We Are Decided." Nice Job!

  • @Hipster55 "It puts the 1973 movie to shame."

    .

I agree. I just watched the 2000 version on DVD and it's much better & more relevant setting it in modern times, showing a fascist state with its heel on the throats of the people and how Jesus (who represents a threat to the status quo and their power over the people) must be eliminated. This theme is expressed so much clearer in the 2000 version than in the '73 one where that one was just basically a costumed passion play with a rock/disco score.

  • Comment removed

  • Jesus brother Judas was the smart one and got so screwed in the whole deal!

  • good version

  • LOL he wishe she could sing that well :) Good job

  • *nods* Very nicely done. I loved the 1973 version, never heard the 70 concept album... but when I watched the first few songs of the 2000 one, I didn't like it. I didn't feel the power that Judas or Jesus had in the 1973 version. The only one I liked was Mary in the 2000 version. As for the Gethsemane scene I noticed someone mention, for me I felt Neely crawling across the rocks, hitting those notes, and his sad puppy-dog face brought more emotion out of me than the 2000. This is imo of course.

  • no one can touch Carl Anderson or pull off his riffs. end of story.

  • @roseof92 Actually that voice was not Carl Anderson, it does sound like him, it's Murray Head. Carl Anderson wasn't in the original version in 1970. He was in the movie in 1973.

  • in '73 version this song sound like a harsh warning. i like how here you can see how judas is scared for jesus being hurt.

  • i thing these actors act better and have stronger voices!!!! i like older version too though

  • ow. wow. bad

  • Tohle je naprosto ultimátní verze, nevím, co tady blábolí ti ostatní angláni, ale má to drive jak málo co... Jesus rules!!!

  • 1973 version is sung by a bunch of castrates. 2000 is much better in both acting and singing.

  • OH my god , this jesus is so pouty looking :/

  • Call me a modernist, but the 2k version is superior in almost every way to the 73 version (except for the irreplaceable lack of Ted Neely)

Andrew Lloyd Webber has stated that this is his favorite version of the play.

  • I really like the original version of the musical from 2000! But this is only shit! I mean it doesn't fit. The voice from Carl to the person of Jerome, so if you don't like the musical from 2000 don't watch it and please, do never again such a thing like that, becaurse I think most of you don't like this mix. When you like the musical and Judas from 1973 then whach that and if you like he version from 2000 then watch that... I don't like Im sorry....

  • i like the 2000 film personally. And the OBC Judas sounded horrible.

  • I actully hate this version.

It just never worked for me.

  • i think this dude just cant sing as well as the black judas from ´73

  • Sorry, but this is NOT the original version. This is not the Jerome Pradon's voice.

  • The min. Judas started singing I knew they were lip syncing. You can't forget Ben Vereen's voice =-)

  • I kind of like this version better because I grew up listening to this version.

  • shut the fuck up stupid freaks , just say what you think about this one, if its good or not, miserable bastards, what a shame diskussing about such an awesome musicle like this one. FU

  • I think that Patrik Martinsson made the best version of Judas. I played JCS with him on Malmö Opera in Malmö, Sweden and was blown away by his voice. Powerful as hell!

  • I think that Patrik Martinsson made the best version of Judas. I played JCS with him on Malmö Opera in Malmö, Sweden and was blown away by his voice. Powerful as hell!

  • Well, I don't really like neither the 2000 version's Judas nor the OCR Judas. Imho, the best Judas ever is Carl Anderson: he had such a powerful voice that was just perfect to represent a tormented character like Judas.

  • @Xjapanized man, I'm getting that alot!! lol I might have to blow the dust off my OST version and give it another listen just so I can hear Anderson vs. Head again and get a sanity check to see if I'm on crack! :)

  • isn't it kinda of tune at 3:17... I prefer the old one

  • @martinkjlarsson I think that's called existential angst! :p

  • i really didnt like what you did. and the original recording is very poor. its a good base for all those who seek to sing the song and make it their own but as a recording its horrible. and im not referring to just the quality. props on the attempt.

  • @zakinverse who's your Judas of choice?

  • I always thought this was a terrible Jesus Christ superstar. But I've just seen this version of Gethsemane, and it was the first time ever I almost started to cry. Som much emotion! I could feel it to!

  • @Embricana I must admit, I couldn't get past Heaven on Their Minds w/o redoing the audio! haha. But I'll have to check out the Gethsemane scene and see.

  • wtf?

  • @eldikarmanusan lol!

  • Oh wow, nice job on the synch! I too cringe when the 2000 Judas reaches the highnotes -- I'd have thought a fantastic higher range voice would have been the number one criteria?

I recommend tracking down the 1992 Australian version of JCS, where Jon Stevens plays Judas -- his voice is very strong, never falters, hits the high notes with ease.

  • @El3v8mysoul I know right!? :D Jon Stevens? I haven't heard that version.... but I will most certainly look for it!! If you know where I can get it, lemmie know!

  • I think I like the '73 version as well. This version takes the modern way to far. Plus the actors doesn't seem to fit my idea of a picture of the actual persons. On the other hand, it should be said that I have watched neither of these films and I haven't really given that much thought to it. And I am definitly not an expert. I'm not really to be trusted.

  • @Inzashou true. I think they pushed the envelope on their idea of Modern... like KISS videos from the 80s. lol :)

  • @JOSUE144000 Huh? Dude... what are you smokin!?

  • He is the only guy who looks cool with a bald head =D

  • @MasterionX lol true dat.

  • @MasterionX Actually, I always thought Robert Hirschboeck (He played Henry Stauf from my all time fav video game The 11th Hour) Looked really cool!! :D

  • i don't like the lipzynkd voice of this vid... i like the original one... ¬¬

  • @Negroxc So you actually prefer the sing-songy operatic voice of Pradon ... over Anderson who screams out in passion--and wails in existential angst towards the son of the almighty? hmmm.. I hear ya... but I just love the voice of Anderson!

  • There's a set of Webber bests (one of many, and all with "Memory"), it's 2 discs, and comes with the old black and white Phantom of the Opera. The "Heaven On Their Minds" on that is the best I've ever heard, and I can't figure out who it is. The same guy does "Superstar" in that collection and it sucks ass; but the other one, amazing!

  • @TheFlipTease Oh that's cool... Thanks for the heads up. Do you have a catalogue number for the album? I'd like to check it out. Thanks again.

  • they'll crush us if we go to far.

  • @Calsummersishere it was beautiful but now its sour.

  • wait, i only know the 73 version and the 2000 one, and personally i think the 73 one is the best. are there more versions of it?? good music and all but i still prefer the black hippie judas :D

  • @simpleman6942 lol There are many versions including spanish (Jesucristo Superestrella--which I also love!!) The two I have in my collection that I favor over the 1973 film version are: "Jesus Christ Superstar - Original Cast Recording" (Concept Album, released: November 1970; Decca 7206) <~~~my all time FAV!! The audio track is used here from this album. And "Jesus Christ SuperStar - A Resurrection", which features trax by Indigo Girls. Both of these are worth owning. Check them out!! :)

  • @Hipster55 thanks for the alcaration :D i will check them out! but i still prefer the black hippie judas just for being the one i saw first haha

  • This is not the voice of Jerome Pradon playing Judas. I know this version backwards and I am more than sure that this is not what Jerome is singing. What happened?

  • @janajswe My bad, sorry, after reading intro. I got it. :-D

  • @janajswe lolol Thanks for stopping by and commenting just the same!! Your comments made me smile. :D

  • I don't understand why you guys don't like this new version of Jesus Christ Superstar. I myself like it very much!

  • @DangerousGirl141 I dunno... just can't get into it DangerousGirl. Pradon has great facial expressions but I still think Anderson's voice is more chilling...hence the mash! :)

  • Jerome <3

The best judas ever if you ask me!

  • @TotosDawn Really? Tell me Its only because of Anderson's voice! :D

  • this version just doesnt do it for me, (the 2000 version) although i can tell this audio is from the album. loved the album and the original film.

  • Is Jesus played by Ian on this movie??

  • carl anderson can sing this guy under the table and

steve balasamo ,ian gillan, ted neely and dare i say sebastion bach could sing this lil girl under the table

(i mean did you even hear gethesemane no good at all )

    1973 version is better

they shouldve just left it alone

  • @hairmetal4ever95 lol I agree with you on the trax from the 2000 remake. The audio I mashed here is actually from the Original Cast Recording circa 1970. Since then, no one has ever come close to matching the intensity and passion on that album. imho, Sebastian Bach single handedly wrecked Jesus so bad that I was personally glad to see him get crucified... and I prayed he wouldn't get resurrected! :)

  • LEUK

  • @alexianmartin, lol. yes it was. It was dubbed with the Original Cast Recording version from the 70s. Murray Head portrayed Judas. His voice reminds me of Chris Cornell from Soundgarden. See the notes for more details. Thanks for stopping by :)

  • [somehow I deleted this comment by mistake, my apologies] alexianmartin This was dubbed. Jerome Pradon(Judas) was amazing. Better then Carl Anderson in the movie.

  • this vids are very good

  • i love this movie so much...its one of my favorites...im not religious but the music is so beautiful and powerful...my school just did JCS and it was soooo good.

  • judas best!

  • no one compares to ted neeley, this guy looks like white gold

  • For me it makes the whole difference in the world that this Judas is speaking his mind to Jesus' face. It made sense to me that 1973 Judas kept singing his tunes to himself, for every time he faced Jesus with his worries, he had an answer to him. Judas only really spoke his mind minutes before betraying Jesus, in the Mandarin song.

That made more sense to me. I don't think Judas would have hung himself if he had warned Jesus about his fears, if he had been, at least, an "honest traitor".

  • Judas looks like Quentin Tarantino

  • 0:50 jesus: im not a A-Tard

  • Metrosexuals instead of hippies, eh.

  • i wish they could have mixed up the casts i like the judas from the old version but the jesus from the 2000 version

  • eh? kidding? jesus from 1973 was the best of all singers

  • I agree with everyone's opinon's either way, but to me the original version is the best. I think that Ted Neeley playing Jesus was awesome.

  • The original version is unquestionably the greatest. The artist's voices are particular to the period in which the play was created. They just fit the music and spirit of the show. Been listening to it since the 70's and heard a lot of versions, but the original is the perfect mix of musicians and creators that can't be surpassed. Thank you

  • @witchearts I think that the 1973 version is the best, not the original. I mean, Carl Anderson as Judas, and Ted Neeley as Jesus are much better than Murray Head and Ian Gillan

  • I think every version has its strengths and weaknesses. I like the 2000 version because the interpretation was so different than what was typically done, plus Pradon, Carter and Johansson are all amazing stage actors. Still, I understand why people like the original album the best!

  • I fully understand your idea- I adore the original version but the combination of the 2000 version with 1970 recording is great :-)

  • love it thanks

  • this is not the original song...

  • it's a 2000 remake.

  • Very well done indeed. You've matched the video and audio so closely that I didn't even realize for a few seconds even though I know both versions well. I like how you've removed tiny sections of video in order to get the lip-syncing spot on. I'm still debating which version of this song I prefer. Both are very talented singers with very different styles.

  • Whoa, good job. I didn't realize the audio didn't match the video until I read the comments.

  • This is pretty awesome dude, this version was just horrible, the singers not that they all sucked but they really didn't fit this at all, Jesus was really bad. The original album was sweet and the movie was really good too, better singers actually just not recorded as well(movie). I think its cool to have some modern references in the show but when they try and go overlly modern I think it actually loses its zest...my opinion though, but this version was horrid.

  • ooooooooooooo this is so cool i never got to here the original this is amazing good job!!!

  • My favorite has always been the OCR, and I strongly disliked the 1973 version, but I did not mind the 2000 version. yet this is pretty cool!

  • Nicely done Hipster55 - I prefer the original cast recording too - Ian Gillan also superb as Jesus

  • Nice editing.

  • You are right! And not a purist. but this is not bad.

  • forgive them Ian .... for they know not what they do

  • I was going to freak out but I noticed it is you who posted link to the original leather jacket Judas I was looking for. Thanks a lot!

    watch?v=QOm_4ujmfhU

  • you bet! Thanks for stopping by. :)

  • super

  • :-)

  • Beautiful..SUPER

  • @Sarayax8, Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment. I really do appreciate it!!! :)

  • This is great! Although I like Jerome, but this sounds so much better! Really powerful! And it's a great mix!

  • I loved what you did - I loved even more that you did it VERY WELL mixing the song and video.

But I do think Jerome Pradon's angsty singing fits Judas so very well.

    Still, 5stars.

    :-)

  • Thanks so much amandha for taking the time to comment. I'm glad you like the results. I've tried to like the newer versions, but alas, I keep coming back to the original :) The only close seconds have been a spanish version that was live at our local theatre a couple of years ago, and a christian rock opera called !Hero-- Two of my favs. But for me, nothing will ever beat the OCR of JCSS! :)

  • This guy really proves how great the so called villain can be. The name of this rock opera should really be Judas. Verdi originally wanted to call Othello, Iago. But that would have been a bad marketing decision. In the end it all worked out for them both. Anyway, thanks for posting this. Jerome is the best!

  • Well done! If I didn't know I would think that really was his voice.

  • Here's the link to the 2000 version untouched I think.

    watch?v=QOm_4ujmfhU

  • murray head! i really surprised to hear it with Jerom XD

  • This is the singing from the 1973 version, do you get it? We still tend to like the original because we got used to it. The remake is pretty good too! However, the original is more dynamic, the tempo is faster in many places, there's more expression.

  • the version of this song from the ocr is by far the best. just sound better than all the other interpretations.

  • So expresive!!! I love this Jesuschrist!!!

  • All versions recorded and all 'judas'' have there own take on there part. Singing wise i love pradons voice. You can almost feel the angst coming from his voice. Plus the man can sing all tho he has admitted that the song was written for a tennor and he is a baritone.

But lets not forget that this is a movie and you have to feel emotion from the singing as judas is making a strong point in ALL the songs he sings. Which i believe pradon does amazingly well. But kudos for the syncing

  • i saw this movie in religion class at school. its awesome!!

  • I actually don't like the original. Slate me if you want, I don't care, but I think the 2000 remake had so much more emotion and depth to it, and the actors' performances were so much better. That's just my opinion.

  • @xxxMyChemRminexxx sooooooo agree with you. was gonna state the same thing till i read your comment. :)

  • @xxxMyChemRminexxx well your opinnion is wrong

  • Thats so unnerving

    but cool :)

  • Whats the song name i want to learn it on bass?

  • It´s named heaven on their minds :-)

  • great singer.... but carl anderson was so much better

  • Excellent work. The combination of Jerome Pradons acting and the singing of Murray Head. Great. Why didin´t Murray play the Judas in the 1973 movie? Does anyone knows this?

  • It's not gay. It is using the current counterculture used to illustrate the fact that Jesus was bucking the establishment of his time. It is why the 1973 movie had a hippy-ish feel to it. That was the prevailing counterculture at the time. This modern version took the same tack placing Jesus within the current counterculture, the culture that makes the establishment uneasy and uncomfortable to convey the way Jesus was perceived by those around him at the time.

  • Very good synching! It worked surprisingly well, I think.

  • Nothing comes close to the orginal cast. I liked that this Judas made an attempt to copy Carl and didn't do bad job at all.

  • I thought the modern Judas was awesome... when he wasn't singing. Any other time, I really liked him.

I love you for this video.

  • Supergay

  • Everyone - this is Murray Head, not Carl Anderson

  • i mean Karl`s voise

  • It`s seemes like it is fonogramm with Judas vois in 73th

Can it be possible? I don`t hear the different

  • I was listening to this and thinking wow he sounds quicker and different. Of course it's Carl Anderson singing.

  • I'm very moved by Jerome Praden's interpretation of Judas, as I was Carl Anderson's in 1973. Both are stellar, in different ways, from different perspectives.

  • Haha pretty well done with the timing of the audio and video :)

  • I like this musical however the missed out the end of the story, jesus didnt not just die on the cross, he came back to live aswell. thats what makes this the Greatest story ever told!
