  • Could you submit the sheet music to imslp?

  • lol im really liking all the compliments for the french horn ^^ makes the world a better place

  • What software did you use? How much did those mics cost? Nice low range.

  • what song is that, i play french horn

  • What horn is that? I'm loving the garland around the bell!

  • @aztec11 that's a Finke (likely the model Brendan). Its the same model I play, and I can tell you that the garland really makes a huge difference.

  • @aluminumsheep What does the garland do for you?

  • @aztec11 It holds the tone together better at ff than one without the garland and also allows the sound to cut more, at the possible expense of blending.

  • french horns are cooler than your mom.

  • It is amazing and beautiful... but lol it's a trio not a quartet... oh well, i don't really care cuz it sounded so good anyways.

  • Yes I do show in the video only the separate play of 4. and 2. voice, before playing it together with 1. and 3. - The whole piece has in fact 4 voices.

  • I only heard 3 parts XD

  • the horn is so pretty...

  • Nice job!!

  • great video, so sorry to hear that you can't play. I hope fortune turns your way, you sound great in this.

  • Very nicely played, I wish I was that good.

  • Thanks. I wish too I would still play that good. Unfortunately I got Focal Dystonia on some lip movement since 2007 and still can not play.

  • @Thohomahawk oh that sucks man i wouldn't have a life if it wasn't for horn

  • @Thohomahawk

I feel sorry for you :( If I couldn't keep playing it would turn my whole world up and down :S Hope you can begin playing again soon!

  • Beautiful!!

  • I love the lows too

I actually am good at them since my horn teacher started me (and pretty much all her students) learning a large range. I'm so grateful now lol

  • very nice!!! I love your low tone! I wish I could play that well low but I have issues with low notes.

  • cello

  • @welkeroklast oh cmon, everyone knows horn is better than any kind of string instrument...

  • wat do I play cello or french horn

  • thats a beautiful french horn

  • wow that looks beater than mine can you show a video on how to empty the water from the horn?

  • just spin it and dump it

  • Outstanding performance, what model Horn are you playing here? I own a YHR-668 NII and love it, save a few tuning bugs with the tubing.

  • This is a Finke Brendan F/B double.

  • i like part 3 best when it hits that [splitting] 3rd i think , soooo good.

  • Made in Apple GarageBand. I've tried Ableton Live, but that's way too complicated.

  • where can i get the music??

  • there should be many Midi files on the web, you can convert into notes. Use Myriad Harmony, it is able to convert midis into sheet music.

  • What program are you using for the recording?

  • Beautiful job. Isn't it great having one instrument and four tracks?

  • where do you found it?

  • I want to do something like this some time, but I don't know how.

  • One man quartet! woah!

  • very good music

  • god, what id give for a horn like that!

  • can you give me the notes, please?

  • cool

  • this is really cool!

  • this is amazing, man

  • OMG! FINKE HORN!

  • can i get a copy of the music anywhere for this?

  • Thats true, however, it is not conventional plastic but a special compound thats also used for airplanes because it is stronger then many metal compounds while having much less weight and still having some elasticity. I've never had any problems with that valves.

  • Hey, is it true Finke horns have plastic rotors?

  • This is fabulous! Thank you for sharing. Amazing.

  • wow ive done this too on garage band except mine wasnt NEARLY as good rofl I just played my scales in a round and stuff and made random harmonies ;D

  • that sounds so cool all put together, i would do that with my euphonium but my mic sucks... :-P

  • Oh, I suppose one shouldn't have to tell you that hornists don't ever get bored at wathcing another's technique.

  • well now that you have written a quartet for horn, I just may have to answer you with mine....a former horn player form a life ago. have a recording system whicfh could allow me to compose a horn qudro. Is it on?!?!

  • this is pretty neato ^_^ what kind of program is that that you are using for this???

  • I did this with Garageband. I tried Ableton Live, but found it too complicated...

  • This is awesome, I'm going to have to do this sometimes :]

  • woah...this is really cool!

  • is that a finke horn? looks like it

  • Yes, Finke Brendan.

  • nice ;)

  • I loved playing this instrument...the sound of a good horn can still bring tears to my eyes or stop me dead in my tracks....I'm grateful to the all the people who share this "rare" ability/talent.

  • Sweet!!!

  • you know what would be awesome? if he dubbed himself playing each part in a different part of the room with a fixed camera and played all the footage together, so it looks like four clones playing

  • No, it is not a trio. It has 4 parts to play.

  • ... its a horn trio... there are only 3 parts he is playing... putting that aside, it is pretty freakin awesome

  • amazing. brilliant. bravo. excellent.

  • that's pretty good. I keep trying to make my own ensemble but i don't have good enough mics!

  • horns are awesome....horn players are the most awesomest people ever!!(they are amazing musicians!)

  • I'm in the process of switching from flute to horn. =D I'm so excited. Horns are so beautiful.

  • wtf u can do that??

  • yea. i did. and look at me now. haha

  • sweet

  • I switched from Alto Sax to horn and I just got a full ride for college :)

  • that's totally something I would do. Most horn players at my age suck. I love it

  • dud i kno

  • I love the sound of the french horn. Dying elephant? C'mon!

It reminds me of a fox hunt, or when the Grinch blows his horn and brings back all the Christmas stuff.

  • Absolutely beautiful.

This is the definition of horn playing.

  • that was soooooo awesome

  • cool

  • i love ur horn like the artwork on the bell!! wat kind of horn is it??

  • a custom...

  • That was amazing! How did you sound so good in a regular room? Like you know...echo?

  • This is great stuff! I have done something similar, (but worse) (check my profile) Did you record seperately? I recorded it with camera only, but think it would get better if I recorded it with proper gear.

  • Yes I used two m-audio Nova microphones, not the cams mic. The sound quality is superb, but of course on the youtube video you dont hear it that good.

  • French horns RULE!

  • Totally agree, Bluemaster555. I switched from trumpet and absolutely love it. Why do people think it sounds like dying elephants?

  • Because it's hard to find a good french horn player, one who can keep it in tune. I only ever knew two good ones, the rest were... they were not so hot.

  • dying elephants lol. i used to play french horn for 4 years about 8 years ago. wow the memories.

  • This is sweet. I actually did something similar to this in high school; turned out pretty good.

I've always wanted to do it again, but since I don't play horn anymore, that idea's out.

  • oh my goodness!!!! This is really beautiful!

  • Im digging the shorts dude. :D

  • Absolutely beautiful. Thanks for taking the time to learn all the parts, record everything, and edit it together!

You should make a whole CD of yourself playing with yourself. Directed and edited, by yourself.

  • that is so awesome!

  • lovely! what horn are you using?

i'm using a hans hoyer... loving it!

  • nice, i like it. what song is that

  • Beautiful horn and composition -- you did a wonderful job recording all voices and playing :)

  • if ur using a mac can u just use garage band, or do you use a special program

  • I did this with Garageband only. Recording one track for each voice.

  • thanks

  • Where did you get that bell?

I have a Conn 8D and I'm looking for a bell like that one. The joys of screw bells.

Btw what kind of horn is that? It is beautiful

  • is there a transcript available?

  • nice!

  • nice horn. i have currently a single horn (gold horn0 but im going to get my double horn soon (silver horn) it allows me to exchange notes easily. and it has 4 keys instead of three. three keys and 1 trigger for thumb.

  • which horn dou you play now?F-horn??

  • yes

  • hell yeah! I'm planning to do this with my keyboard! :D also baroque style :D

  • Great playing, and great horn.

  • ok first: thats probley one of the nicest horns i have EVER seen.

secondly, HOW DID U DO THAT

    share ur secreats with me...

  • Hi. its called overdub recording. You record each voice seperately while listening to the previous recorded voices (thats why it needs headphones).

  • My Goodness! Nice Horn.

  • I was looking for Barry Tuckwell, found you and am not disappointed. Thank you very much

  • does anyone know where i can get the sheet music for this arrangement? i am extremely interestes in makeing something like this.

  • There are free midis around for download. You can import midi into Notation programs like Myriad Melody or Finale, arrange and print them.

  • i could give you the sheet music if you play clarinet XD

  • i actually do play the clarinet. could you send me the sheet music?

  • i actually do play the clarinet. could you send me the sheet music?

  • eh i could but it wouldn't exactly be the highest quality

    (i dont have a scanner)

  • thats fine

im dying to find this music anywhere

could you email it to me?

  • certainly

  • my email address is Ajl5282@aol. com

    thank you so much

  • but,i have it on a sheet of paper that a my clarinet tutor made a copy of

so the only way i could get it to you would be to take a picture of it with a camera and e-mail it to you..

  • well if it is a semi clear picture then i guess that would be fine. i would so appreciate it

  • thats a pretty sweet horn

  • sry but really random... is there a guy standing in the window behind you in the video?

  • no, definitely not.

  • who wears short shorts YOU wear short shorts!!!

  • roflollol!!!!

  • BWAHAHAHAHAHA!! Thats great.

  • fantactico

  • finke americus?

  • Good guess. Its a Finke Brendan.

  • I still say trombone is more versatile. Way cool though, what software do you use.

  • I would say the trombone is more versatile because of its wide applications from baroque, classic, jazz, latin, you find them everywhere, just like the trumpet. But when it comes to diversity/variation of tone colour and expression there is nothing else that has more possibilities then the french horn.

  • You may be right, but it all depends on the player. Nothing quite compares to a virtuoso. I do however concede that a well played french horn has the most beautiful sound to it. But to each instrument their own strengths and weaknesses, if we had one instrument that could "do it all" then we wouldnt need orchestral groups. And that would be sad.

  • my great great uncle played trombone and from what i here he was pretty good. he died some time ago. maybe you have heard of him, last name Teagarden? His wife (my great great aunt Irene) just passed on some time ago.

  • sorry, I've never heard of him. Of course that doesnt mean much as there are so many great trombonists and my memory is not what you would call incredible.

  • thats cool !

  • Hard to understand my own first comment here goes again. Why do you say you can not play anymore? You sounded brilliant to me, you can not please everyone, some people are too technical. You sounded great, if they can do better lets hear them. I would probably still ike yours better :-) Thanks!

  • Thanks for your comments. This recording was made mid 2006. Later I had more and more problems playing well, by the end of that year I could not play any more, in 2007 I was diagnosed with Embouchure Dystonia.

  • why you can not play, although this other comment disects your playing by a microscope ear it sounded brilliant to me. Some people cant be 100 pleased because the are so perfect, your playing was great !

  • sounds a bit like medievel times

  • First off, cool vid cool concept. I'd a done it but I don't have the recording equip. Helpful advice here. You tend to chew the notes when you start them. This is something you are doing with your lips and your air. It's like earlier in life you played so many wrong notes that you test the note subconciously when you start each entrance.

Answer = buzz more and be picky when you buzz.

  • Well, I just bought the recording equipment. And since I wrote some horn quartets in college, I suppose its time for me to put up or shut up huh?

  • You are right, the playing is not the best. I suppose my embouchure dystonia was already showing even in that tim of this recording. Now I can not play anymore.

  • Sorry to hear that. Good luck learning another instrument! I wish you well.

  • branle de la torche! i love this dance!

  • Thanks, I have one myself, there is very little info about this particular mic. I'm quite satisfied with it too

  • Nice horn, it must be expensive !

    XD

  • Well, its handmade, Finke Germany

  • Are you satisfied with these mics? As in bang/buck and in general

  • They are M-Audio Nova, with big gold covered diaphragma. The sound is great, can not compare it with other brands and the expensive ones, but I find they sound great. Check my other recordings on heroicabrass point com slash horn point html

  • thats brilliant! I love it!

  • i wish i could play like that after 2 years.

  • Very cool! I love renaissance music, I want to hear more!

  • Will need some time. I have distonia of the embouchure for some months now and I am not shure yet if I ever will come back in shape again.

  • Very nice. You could add some "Concert Hall" effect to increase the Orchestra simulation. The song is sounding like a study in the bedroom, instead of a great concert in a big Auditorium.

  • I also like it with hall, but I do never manipulate my recordings, I want it as natural as possible. But once I will record it in a church ;-)

  • Beautiful

  • Beautiful horn! I love the embroidary on the bell.

  • Nice horn, nice guy, nice job

  • Nice sound..... and legs too! ;)

  • Hi Thomas T. You know me, Larry J. Let the hornlist know how your horn playing is coming along. At age 59, I just keep improving, too. Love your music.

  • Don't you just love youtube..! Nice work (I wish I had a sound like that..*sigh*) Ah well..study and I will go there ;-)

wishing you the best, a tiny hornist from the netherlands :)

  • amazing dude :P

  • Sorry, I mean Finke Brendan

  • It is a Finke. I was just in his office and got a nice new bag.

  • Nice finke, brendan or Americus?

  • You sound great and that is one beautiful horn you have.

  • great Sound! You could hire yourself out to any orchestra and get paid for playing 4 horns at once!

  • hahahaha thats what I do too! I love your bell btw

  • A Finke!
