Healthcare Insurance in America is greedy game of gotcha. The new healthcare bill is another example of the saying "the more things change, the more they are exactly the same." Face it, the insurance industry wrote it for their buddies in the Senate to rubberstamp. The Democrats promised one thing on their party platform and then were bought out. The Republicans promised the people nothing.
Eventually this private for profit system is going to get so expensive it just crashes the government and the economy. Because of this new healthcare bill, we're all going to be medical serfs.
We do not subscribe to the view that one should feed the hungry, give drink to the thirsty, or clothe the naked Our objectives are different: We must have a healthy people in order to prevail in the world."

Health Insurance has never been and never will be a right. It is a choice. Free healthcare for all is economically unattainable. Even the US gov can't live on a mountain of debt without it collapsing one day.
A big, expensive gas guzzling SUV is a lot safer vehicle than say a Honda Civic. But many cannot afford one. Do we have a right for free one from the gov?
@aarondavid826 It's a right in my country and ever other sane country on the planet. It could be a right in yours too if you chose to make it so (constitutional ammendments can do wonderful things). They have a CHOICE other than 'healthcare' or 'no healthcare'. Your analogy sucks. Because its mandatory to insure your car, but not a person. When did cars become more important than people? The role of gov't is to PROTECT the people.
@Capng123 Yes. I agree completely. But in a Capitalist society, MONEY TALKS... And money is ultimately the deciding factor that dictates how politicians vote, and consequentially, which bills become law. I am pissed at Obama for taking out the public option.
@Capng123 And incredibly inefficient and expensive too. If someone doesn't get fairness by this point they never will. Talking about efficiency is another matter.
I'm not an extremist at all but I honestly think that a revolt is on the horizon. This is bullshit. The group who makes our bills and decides how everybody is going to live their lives have been bought out entirely by corporations.
And then when people get sick of it and want a new system where we can actually save the lives of people, the most VALUABLE THING IN THE WORLD, HUMAN LIFE, we get called socialists and communists.
I don't understand what is happening to us. This is just crazy.
Why shouldn't smokers, tanners, and those who eat themselves into obesity pay more in premiums than those of us who are more responsible. Just as in housing, education, and finance; this is about punishing responsibility and success in the name of 'fairness'. And the host conviently doesn't mention that before, those over 55 were paying four to five times as much.

Just as in housing, education, and finance; this is about punishing responsibility and success in the name of 'fairness'. And the host conviently doesn't mention that before, those over 55 were paying four to five times as much.
Saddest part, most of this will happen and then people will blame Obama for it and probably elect another hardcore GOPers who will push the dream of universal health care even further away, when it's really the greedy corporations that won't let real health care come into play. The system HAS to change, it can never be okay to put a price on people's lives..that is wrong and a crime, the insurance companies will be looked down upon from the future as one of this century's greatest evils.
it doesn't matter! now that universal health care has passed, it will be easier to pass rules that will prevent SOAB insurance companies from pulling this off.
Aren't the republicans the ones who poisoned this bill in the first place? THEN they complain about it. Disgusting, but as Cenk would agree, not surprising. I'm quite interested in seeing the end result of all this if Obama's just trying to create leverage for some big beneficial plan. but things look less than ideal here.
Maybe the insurance companies will shoot them selves in the foot with all this greed and corruption. Just add it to the list of reasons the American people need to revolt against the corporations that ruin their lives on a daily basis.
the bill is a failure, but people's response to the bill is the ultimate failure. i don't know what the democrats are so happy about; if anything, they should be more pissed off than the republicans about the passing of this bill. and the republicans don't even know how to criticize this bill--socialized health care? this bill is anything but. the insurance companies are probably laughing their asses off right now, having screwed the government and the american people over.
case in point; every loophole they find is something to celebrate about. and this bill is a goody bag FULL of loopholes. i understand where you're coming from-- the bill wasn't designed to put the insurance companies at the top-- but, it has ended up being so. the bill is so flawed that, ultimately, the insurance companies win.
Yup. The cynic in me has seen this bill going this way since they dropped the public option. Cenk even said it back then too, that without competition, the system would not change.
I don't think a bill that would have worked would ever have passed because any worth while idea is blocked by the republicans. And that's coming from an outside view. I'm not American.
That was the general consensus at first, but of course that idea didn't last long.
I remember CNN even had Canadian doctors and politicians come on air to gloat about the Canadian Health- care system (rightfully so) and debate American detractors about Health-care in the U.S. I don't know what they where debating about when it is a cold hard fact that Canada ranks higher (#30) than the U.S (#37) in Health-care. Spend less too.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
its because health care is so important that it should remain PRIVATE. in an industry of life and death you cant have government beauracrats getting between you and your doctor and deciding what the government is willing to give you, you need less regulation so the health care companies dont have to enact these draconion measures just to break even, what did we warn you, the government nationalized health care, now we have higher premiums, and less coverage.
oh please shut it with the talking points. Maaaany countries with government run health care are perfectly satisifed with it. Not to mention many of them have much higher life expectancy then we do. The care here is only good when you have the money to pay for it.
Insurance companies could drop you for whatever they want.
Helathcare should NOT be for profit. It's simply wrong.
@tehant1liberal Have you heard a word Cenk has said? The insurance companies are the ones you need to be worried about. Right wingers are looking in the wrong place for death panels man.
is a industry of life or death i bloody want government support. Are you an idiot? What about drink driving, you for that? Or taking drugs and driving? Or faulty electircal fittings? And so on? If you put people in charge who dont fucking care about you then you fucked yourself.
You stupid idiot. You either set private healthcare under conditions where free market will regulate the prices (which you dont have), or you set it under government control where the government pays for the services provided by private companies. You have no idea how single payer system works, you dont even know what communism/socialism is, you ignorant fuck.
Fuck dude , Cenk is a pretty good fellow ,the shit that is going down is when a fellow comes to jesus, however he seems to be in a bit of an emotional upheaval , don't know if it is only the existent turmoil or personal reasons , however as more shit that I dish to the fellow I wish him no ill will, since Cenk has more integrity than most people on the press.
Ya this is a big part of why Im a Socialist...and Obama is NOT a Socialist (for the record) we believe in people over profits, the whole healthcare fiasco got so bad so quick that eventually I just didnt give a damn anymore because I knew us working class people were going to get screwed no matter what was passed, I understand making a profit in life, but the whole idea of any kind of social morality has gotten lost in the quest for Capital
The government should control energy, too. Utility companies are almost as bad as insurance.
NYSEG makes all kinds of billing errors, then forces costumers to pay for their mistake-- in my personal case, I would call it fraud. Verison also has problems, as does Time Warner (which is not really a utility but they behave like one).

My feelings about where a private market monopoly doesn't belong: National security, Law Enforcement, School, Firefighting, Postal, Health Care. These are all things that are necessary in the modern world to compete and remain a powerful nation, and just because something like HC wasn't in the Constitution per se doesn't mean it's not vital today. We're one of the fastest falling countries in the world. We have a long way to fall, but we're gonna get passed left and right.
@dEdGrimley Thank you for including "per se", some people must ramble over the preamble and forget the "general welfare" wording. One of welfares coming meanings is that is health. So ironically, I would say the constitution has a pretty obvious domain in the healthcare system. =)
Single payer sucks just as bad if not worse. The insurance companies will get you to pay as much as possible regardless of whatever the government will pass. We NEEDED a public option.
@Tnig01 Single payer is the public option for everybody. Insurance companies go out of buisiness and Uncle Sam picks up your tab at the hospital. I'm all for it. Anything that puts the insurance comapnies out of buisiness is OK by me.
@42MOL4EVER I hope youre not just glad to be Canadian because of heath care. The American H.C. has put them on centre stage as of late. H.C. Is only one of their many problems. Have you looked at their public education system since early 80s, Holy Christ, Sarah Palin got votes? What does that tell you? Not to mention their social and race problems. A once great country is rotting from the inside out. Their almost pitiable. Happy to be Canadian as well, (Thanks grandmas & Grandpas)
Yep..Have to admit, have complained from time to time as well...I won't any more.
The Americans seem to care more about a fetus then they seem to care about their living friends, family, neighbors and young kids when they get hurt or sick.Their whole society is broken.I wonder if that's anything to do with there broken education.
if you're going to complain about other people's education, please please please make sure you know when to use "there" and "their". otherwise it destroys your point completely
@thedriver500 Don't get me wrong, i love being Canadian for about a thousand different reasons, just recently our moderatly flawed H.C system seems utopian compared to the Americans'
they are going to have to put a cap on profit here in fla. we used to have car title loans and they were charging like 375% interest until the state finally stepped in and put a cap on it now they have payday advance loans but they can only charge a little over 10% for a one month loan
I'd say it's definitely more fascist. Government mandating its citizens to buy products from private corporations? Doesn't sound very socialist to me at all.
@megamarsvin I am British thankfully, the NHS is my birth right, I am amazed by the lies that I see written about it, saying the eldery die...My grandmother aged 89 had her cataracts done two months ago, in a small town hospital. Even our Conservatives would not get rid of the NHS, their leader David Cameron had a seriously, ill, disabled son who was treated by the NHS for the six years of his life until he died. The current PM has a son with Cystic Fibrosis also treated by the NH

From what information I can find, 440,000 people work in the health insurance industry. In 10 years it has grown more than 50%.
It's a jobs program.
Healthy people ALWAYS pay for the sick people.
In fact, healthy people are the ones paying both for the profits of the company AS WELL AS the medical needs of the sick.
It's hard to believe that people would rather pay an insurance company to screw them rather than pay half of that to get a guarantee of care.

@Capng123 Yes. I agree completely. But in a Capitalist society, MONEY TALKS... And money is ultimately the deciding factor that dictates how politicians vote, and consequentially, which bills become law. I am pissed at Obama for taking out the public option.
Cheers!

Saddest part, most of this will happen and then people will blame Obama for it and probably elect another hardcore GOPers who will push the dream of universal health care even further away, when it's really the greedy corporations that won't let real health care come into play. The system HAS to change, it can never be okay to put a price on people's lives..that is wrong and a crime, the insurance companies will be looked down upon from the future as one of this century's greatest evils.
ruin3r 1 year ago 2
it doesn't matter! now that universal health care has passed, it will be easier to pass rules that will prevent SOAB insurance companies from pulling this off.

LordNapalm 1 year ago
the bill is a failure, but people's response to the bill is the ultimate failure. i don't know what the democrats are so happy about; if anything, they should be more pissed off than the republicans about the passing of this bill. and the republicans don't even know how to criticize this bill--socialized health care? this bill is anything but. the insurance companies are probably laughing their asses off right now, having screwed the government and the american people over.
CoolPotatoBeans 1 year ago
Yeah the insurance companies are laughing the asses off, that's why they keep finding loopholes to fight back. You make perfect fucking sense buddy.
damagon123 1 year ago
@damagon123
case in point; every loophole they find is something to celebrate about. and this bill is a goody bag FULL of loopholes. i understand where you're coming from-- the bill wasn't designed to put the insurance companies at the top-- but, it has ended up being so. the bill is so flawed that, ultimately, the insurance companies win.

Insurance is NOT health care.
They aren't supposed to be allowed to charge you based on your risk? Then why doesn't this apply to drivers? Home insurance? Sports insurance?
Is this health care or insurance? Is it private or public? It's a stupid, unworkable mess is what it is. Scrap it and expand medicare.

Spend less too.

its because health care is so important that it should remain PRIVATE. in an industry of life and death you cant have government beauracrats getting between you and your doctor and deciding what the government is willing to give you, you need less regulation so the health care companies dont have to enact these draconion measures just to break even, what did we warn you, the government nationalized health care, now we have higher premiums, and less coverage.

oh please shut it with the talking points.

We have a long way to fall, but we're gonna get passed left and right.
dEdGrimley 1 year ago 5
