When people have said to me they don't "get" what's so special about Billie Holiday, I point them toward "Don't Explain." Some of the greatest singers of the 20th Century were not polished, perfect singers. Interpretation was everything. Their sincerity far out-weighed singing perfectly. Voice of the 20th Century? Yeah, Sinatra, Presley, Dylan...but don't forget Billie Holiday. She was right up there with them and rightfully so.

@gatofelixriodejaneir That Diana movie about Billie Holiday was a silly movie and was not an accurate depiction of what her real life was about. You should never look to commercial Hollywood movies to get your historical facts. All he musicians who played with Billie and knew her said the movie was total garbage. If you want to know about the real Holiday, read one of the critically acclaimed books on her or watch a documentary like Ken Burn's "Jazz."

Because it's in Bflat major... if it was in a minor key and a couple of beats per mins slower, it would be such a dark, dark song.. that's why it feeels oddly "up" despite it's lyrical content.
