I agree - she has good technique and sings with passion. But a vastly different interpretation. Billy Joel's original is so much more soulful and always puts me in a contemplative, almost melancholy mood. He created one of the greatest modern odes to New York.

Billy is great, this version is close...but Oleta Adams does the definative version. Because of the theme of the song, it requires that standard/blues incarnation that Billy and Tony Bennett tried, but Oleta Adams knocks out of the park (Yankee Stadium)

at least you said please. But seriously, artists who cover the originals are paying homage to the composer. It is a win/ win situation. Billy Joel gets a royalty and the artist gets exposure. This singer did not do so bad. She reached notes even BJ could not hold. Don't get me wrong , I love Billy's compositions and performances but this singer belted this very well.

pretty good, I wouldn't say amazing. She def. has a soft sulty jazz voice, and shouldn't push it too hard and the NY pronunciation needs to be worked on....The last raspy scream needs to be cut out, she doesn't have the vocal strength, huskyness or depth to be making such sounds.

She should stick to the more sulty softer jazz repetoire, and stay away from the ones that require a stronger voice.

I would love to have met her in person. The closest I got to here was three or four rows from the front of her concert in Nakano Tokyo 1987 before I could speak Japanese. She had made a fantastic contribution to music and my life over the years.
