The Kinect is cool and all, but does anyone remember the Eye Toy?
It seems like this is an improvement of it, and that's a very good thing. I just don't understand the people that believe the 360 was the first console to use technology like this. If someone would like to explain this to me, I'm all ears. c:
It is a big difference to just make 2D photo of a person and get the 2D boundaries from that perosn in a picture. The is comparibly easy to solve (eye toy)
Xbox instead has several sensors especially that recognises depth. Also it generated an internal 3D (!!!) skelleton of your body and is able to notice where in the 3D room you are staying.
It is not only "who's first" it is about how you implement this technology.

Droidlife... Speak for yourself. Kinect is great... All the true hardcore gamers are on PC anyways so this active stuff is great for those casual console players.
@BackstreetMJ welll. in this scenario (the vid) they use it to look through xrays without having to touch anything. that's neat because they can find out so much without getting anything infected (no touch, no bacteria or diseases)

Simple motion sensors aren't precise enough to disarm a bomb, and simple motion controls don't have a ridiculous amount of technological possiblities, voice regognition, face regognition, full body skeletin regognition, This thing is innovation in physical form

@97kevinhuanle Wii is surprisingly better than Kinect. Xenoblade, Conduit 2, and many hidden gems. I would suggest saving the money for the next gen Xbox or Wii U. Especially since the Wii U will be coming out for around $300 US more or less. With many good HD Ports and innovative gameplay mechanics. Just saying. Thanks for the good response.

@HuGiv5 In terms of core gaming, Kinect currently has limited usage. For example, in Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary, Kinect is only used for its voice commands (reload, grenade, etc.). The limitation with Kinect is that in an FPS game, it's difficult to use Kinect to move around in a 3D environment. But I'm sure people will find a way around that. Perhaps FPS games will end up giving you more exercise than anything else.

I'm glad Kinect works so good because it will help me in my own creative endeavors now that Microsoft has decided to release the Kinect sensor with the SDK.
One application for this might be helping disabled people (such as arthritis patients) have direct control over devices with broad motor skills rather than precise tactile control. It's an amazing technology and hats off to Microsoft for bringing this to market.

All of these arguments can be solved by watching the "Kinect BR Master 1028 HQ" video on YouTube. Of course none of these are working perfectly or exactly as they appear in this video, that's not the point. The fact is, people are developing uses for the Kinect beyond gaming, such as rehabilitation for stroke victims or autistic children, manipulating views of the universe with the hands, or allowing surgeons to view patient files without breaking the sterile field.

Microsoft+Pixies= win. Kinect is awesome, if you think different you haven't even tried it. Sony's move is, well, a wii. This isn't. Kinect accurately tracks 4 players, no controls necessary. How much does it cost to have 4 players with the Move? How well does the Move, or the wii, recognize voices? That was a rhetorical question.

@freefalling2earth this was probably filmed by actors, who act like they are doing all the work and the screens are probably simulated, yet again they may be previewing a kinect 2.0 (or the kinect for windows )that works better.
@freefalling2earth the kinect is a lot more open then you think. it could be modified. Addiitionally microsoft is creating a special version of kinect espically for modders that allows more closer use.
@freefalling2earth full body tracking needs distance, but gesture tracking doesn't, go watching many hand gesture applications that only require minimal distance to kinect on youtube.
Until I actually see most of this stuff happening.

I'm glad Kinect works so good because it will help me in my own creative endeavors now that Microsoft has decided to release the Kinect sensor with the SDK.

One application for this might be helping disabled people (such as arthritis patients) have direct control over devices with broad motor skills rather than precise tactile control. It's an amazing technology and hats off to Microsoft for bringing this to market.

All of these arguments can be solved by watching the "Kinect BR Master 1028 HQ" video on YouTube. Of course none of these are working perfectly or exactly as they appear in this video, that's not the point. The fact is, people are developing uses for the Kinect beyond gaming, such as rehabilitation for stroke victims or autistic children, manipulating views of the universe with the hands, or allowing surgeons to view patient files without breaking the sterile field.

Microsoft+Pixies= win. Kinect is awesome, if you think different you haven't even tried it. Sony's move is, well, a wii. This isn't. Kinect accurately tracks 4 players, no controls necessary. How much does it cost to have 4 players with the Move? How well does the Move, or the wii, recognize voices? That was a rhetorical question.

@Marzerq It isn't cheaper, since Kinect can track four players. What does it cost for the Move to do the same? Exactly. Also, the Move does little more than the Wii, and is struggling for support.
