@haxorus456 Food at most large pet stores "kaytee exact , hand feeding formula" and the hand feeder thing is a ear irrigation syringe found at most pharmacies
Nice! i hand-reared a clutch of these from a mating pair a few years back--very fun! I think I had about a 70% survival rate, and the little fellows imprinted on humans to an extent I hadn't expected. Whenever someone entered the room, the little flock would zoom right over and land on their head. It was great. They liked being preened by humans and were, of course, very quiet ("beep...beep...beep...").
hi again. my 2 zebra finches (brother and sister) had eggs. :S WAT SHOULD I DO ? are the eggs blank? currently there are 7 EGGS ! how come the male keeps bullying the female?
aw so cute, i wouldnt hav the patience to do tht, but mine layed some eggs and one of the babies has a color deformation thingy (he has white feathers on his head instead of grey) and hes my fav so im gonna keep him and hand tame him heehee

@RushHourful small types of grass seed or spray millet just make sure its a variety :) The problem is sometimes its not enough protein so what i would suggest is Cuttlebone or Oyster Shells. An alternative includes boiling eggs and using a food processor to chop up eggs with eggshell or just the eggshell alone should suffice. :) Also zebra finches like chickweed or dandelion weeds.
Wow!! I never thought you could hand feed finches too. After they grow up, do they get attached to human like parrots do? How do you wean finches? Thank you !!!
hows this bird getting on now? they arent normally tame, i should imagine its super tame due to being hand reared. i used to breed these, they have got to be the easiest birds to breed. well done for hand rearing him, must have taken a lot of patients.
I CAN'T FIND THE FEEDIN FORMULA cuz im in the city, and my closest place to get stuff is in blacktown. do you think they sell it there? and does it matter how old they are to use the formula?
Congratulations on rearing it. I had to handrear cockatiels for the first time last year, their parents abandoned them. It's really tiring. Zebs are so cute <3
Some parts of the video it looks like you are feeding it on the left side (birds right), doesn't that make the food go into the wind pipe? Or is it not the same as Cockatiels or parrotts?
I don't inject the syringe int the crop , Instead I put the food into the beak and allow the baby to swallow naturally , It takes a bit more time but is much safer, and it doesn't mater what side I feed from because the tube never enters the esophagus.
put seed in it's cage if it eats it your ok , if not go to petco (or the like) and buy "exact" or "k-tee" hand feeding formula and a syringe, read the instructions and and start feeding , soon , it will die in a couple days without food.
CRISIS!!!!!!!I just got one 3 weeks and a few days old baby girl!(zebra finch.)will she be able to feed herself without anyone helping her?PLEASE answer soon!!!!!!!
hii this guy came to my dads store and brung him a baby finch without a mom and it has food but its not old enough to eat solid food do u have any recipes about making that baby bird food my dad cant go to the pet shop and he dosent want it to die he tried feeding it and i feel bad for it please reply right when you get this message asap please before it dies :(
If your dad cant go then Someone has to get feed for this bird asap. It will die from starvation in 24 hrs, exact is what I use , petco etc sells it, making your own requires many ingredents has to be cooked up. and new batches constantly made. exact only needs hot tap water, In a pinch you can grind up unsalted crackers and mix with water but this is only a emergency measure and used for only a few feedings.
All birds digest differently, also temp and humidity, the brand of food will play a factor. as a rule of thumb the first 3 weeks the feedings are approx every 2 hrs around the clock, Resist the urge to over feed, allow them to empty, if 2 hrs went by and the crop is not empty you should wait till it does. Hand feeding is a delicate balancing act, and something the amature should not jump into without fully knowing what is involved
The container has pretty good instructions on it , but I usually mix it a bit thinner than they recommend, I found that they tend to digest the thinner mix easier and you have less chance of dehydration but it increases the amount of feedings.
I feed by how long the crop takes to empty about every two hours when first born then gradually the length of time increases as does the thickness of the formula, check out my "Raising 3 sun conures music video" to get a idea.
i have a pair birds finch, and they have now eggs, can you pleaz tell me when should i t ake them from their parents and how and what sould i feed them and how and when plz plz plz plz plz plz plz plz your so kind plz plz plz plz and thank you so much !!!!
you can let the parents sit on them till they start growing feathers , I feed them with "exact" hand feeding formula ( petco , petsmart, etc sells it) . you will be able to see the crop feed, any time it totally empties.
they eventually wean them selfs, they start to beg for food more and more offen. it will go from 4 feedings to 10 and it will be like some times ur feeding them and they just spit it back up and then a hour later beg again and do it again then after about 1-3 days they will beg and shut their mouth b4 u can feed them and their weaned.
how do you learn thehandfed babies to eat seeds??? and when they are how many days old??? i raised 2 from day 5 to day 40 and they died both andi think that happend cause of tha wrong weaning time.
I personally never forced the wean, what I do is cut millet into 1 or 2 inch lengths and have it always offered along with fresh water.
I keep hand-feeding until it either rejects formula or the crop is full of seed and I have observed it drinking water.
My hand-fed birds usually wean in the 50 to 60 day period but each bird is different and a parent raised will wean much faster. They will wean when ready , please don't force it , my personal view is that forced weaning is cruel
what do you mix to feed it? cuz my zebra finches sometimes don't take care of there babies an they die so the next time they do it i'ma hanf feed the babies
I use "Exact" hand feeding formula. but you have to be sure that hand rearing is something you really want or can do, It requires feeding every two hours around the clock, the chick must be kept very warm at first, around 90 deg F, formula must be mixed fresh at each feeding and cleanliness is paramount. If you can do it, it can be the most rewarding thing you do. if not than it will be bad for you and the chick. good luck.
It does, It knows when I am mixing baby bird food and hops over to be fed, It enjoys being with someone and is very content to sit in your hand while I watch t.v.

Hello,
I partly hand fed my zebra finches to help the parents who had 8 of them but it did not make them tame.
Is it because I left them in group, with their parents?
At what frequency do you feed a baby finch if hand-fed alone.
They say "when the crop is empty", how long does it take to empty itself?
Thank you for your answer. Cute video :)
