@CoasterBeach Annoyed, not defensive. You really think I refuse to admit the main characters are American? In any case, it's clear you don't know much about this movie or movies in general, so I'm going to discontinue this exchange altogether. You're asking me what it showed instead of told? Really? That issue is the basis of this whole argument; the film's general policy was to show instead of tell. Jesus. Do you even know what you're arguing about? See more movies, kiddo.
@CoasterBeach Films NEED oodles of exposition? Are you an imbecile? "2001" had oodles of exposition? "8 1/2"? What about "Raging Bull"? Most great films show instead of tell. The idea that a film fundamentally requires things to be spelled out is not only cinematically retarded but totally intellectually bankrupt. Yeah, yeah, whining Americans. What does that even mean? Or matter? Two people in a crisis situation tend to whine. You're not saying anything.
sorry, but crap cheap b-movie...Lots to learn from this..i was just pulling my hair out, so much it was melting my brain!! And I love movies, but this....no comment..
@CoasterBeach Why do you need an artificially fast pace and oodles of exposition to enjoy something? Every criticism you're lobbing basically boils down to a preference for unnatural dialogue that only exists in the service of plot, and totally impertinent value judgments. You really think the whole movie would be better if they had arbitrarily included one conversation explaining everything you're curious about? Or was it really that you wanted more action sequences? Be honest.
@CoasterBeach Where the shuttle went and what they found have nothing to do with the film's narrative. It only matters to you because the film didn't pander enough to your particular demographic so you've got to throw inane nitpicking its way. All the information given in the film is exactly what was necessary for it to function; any more would've been pointless. I mean, really, would a species name and planet-of-origin affect the central story in any meaningful way?
@CoasterBeach I don't know why you think something unraveling organically depends on plot development and suspense. I disagree that the film lacked either, to be sure, but that's not a refutation in the least. You'd be surprised, actually, if you'd paid attention, by how many of your questions were either explicitly answered in the movie or knowable via common sense. And if you consider any of the methodology in this film reliant on "'horror' film cliche[s]," you're totally lost.
@CoasterBeach It's easy to call a film "boring" that takes its time, gradually unravels, and builds suspense organically, instead of setting off the typical bells and whistles fans of, say, "District 9" might be expecting. And how are the monsters extraneous to the plot? They're the entire foundation of it! Without their presence and constant, looming threat, there'd be no movie. And your comment about the main character "whining" registers as little more than tacked on hostility.
@normansmother1 That sucks. I watched an interview where Fred Williamson was saying how in Europe, once you become a star, you're a star for life. And in the US, you're only as good as your last movie. Which is why there's always some new young celebrity. IMO, the States are only good at making little independent movies. Hollywood sucks. But there's always good foreign films... like Godzilla : )
Monsters was THE worst movies I have EVER seen. DO NOT WATCH - I am exteremently disappointed.
How is it possible to make a sci fi film with gaint monsters so unremarkable? You see the "monsters" in total for about 30 seconds throughout the entire the film and all they are doing is moving around. For the other 99% of the film it is a couple of idiots back packing, looking at some wreckage.... *Yawn*
I loved the movie and seen it before reading about the budget and every other details about the movie. I really enjoyed it and it managed to keep me watching with interest and not getting bored like other Hollywood trash movies with huge budgets just wasted. Nice work! The Adobe package is awesome and this shows that Adobe should consider making project based financing for this kind of things.
horrible movie with horrible acting and story. Best part is, its not a sci-fi movie, its not a horror, it's not a even a monster movie. Its a love story and a bad one at that. 95% of the movie is these two predictable characters walking and getting to know each other. I liked Cloverfield a ton, and this doesn't even come close. Its actually offensive to see the trailers then the reality of what you are given. Total fraud, and even if they sold this as a love story, it still sucks
Some aspiring film-makers will say Martin Scorsase in their hero.. others will say its James Camera, but none of them have managed to be a one man vfx expert and directing army... this is why Gareth Edwards is my hero!
Gareth Edwards is making godzilla (Reboot) Japan or in America

@normansmother1 Another reason Hollywood sucks is because they remake, ripoff and make sequels to INDEPENDENT films that were big long ago.
