@adt0425 (1 0f 2) Zhou Xuan is a very well respected singer and actress. From reading her history and interviews of her, we know that she was a hardworking, motivated, dedicated singer and actress. She made effort ensure her art is perfect. She made a significant contribution to cultural development of modern China, and brought joys and fun to billion of people (yes, literally billion) since 1930S.
lida 15: (1 of 2) We are very sad that you insult her. She has two living sons, one is living in Canada and with daughters and probably reading your notes. How do you like someone insulting your mother on the internet, especially when it is not deserving ? Zhou Xuan and her descendants deserve an apology.
@iplayslow did you ever ask your mother's how her emotion is associate with this song. I know this song came from a very emotional movies. You mother probably have seem it.
My mother told me Zhou Xuan went crazy due to pressure from showbiz and from her nasty pushy mother. I am not too sure but the older folks in our household used to say her mother's demands drove Ms Zhou to madness and suicide...so poor thing. FLOR from Singapore
You are welcome! L3S3R4. It seems that movie stars in those days were weighted down by tons of public pressure. A no of them became depressed, took their lives...for eg. Ruan Lin Yu. To be a star is to be a public personality; I think the pressure is awfully great. Regards, FLor
@L3S3R4 In engilish word "mad" could have two meanings, either "angry" or " mentally sick crazy". But in the original chinese word and this song and movies, it meant "crazy". In movies, she was mentally sick. In real live, Zhou Xuan was mentaly sick for the last 6 years of her life. A very undeseving outcome. Go watch this movies. If you can read Chinese, go read her history on internet.
Thanks for sharing. I really love it. Though she started to look more complex on her face compared to 1930's movies. Please keep it here and don't take it down!

I read from an article that she was not really mad, only nervous breakdown. Can anyone tell me the real tragedy of her.

From her son Mr Zhou Wei's address, he's been explaining to public so many times that her mother
was not mad and did not commit suicide.

It's sad that Zhou Xuan herself really ended up in mental hospital in her later days.
Both her acting & acting were excellent and she was a gift to the audience.

Thanks for posting, but I think it's 1943, not 1934.

My goodness! "The World of Madness", the song title, and her desheveled looks, seem to echo some Shakespearian "mad scene". Right?
Lachrymae 4 years ago
wow is this really '34? she looks way older than in Street Angels '37
edmame 5 years ago
Hahaha. As Kollan said, I think it should be 1943.
