General Powell is arguably the most qualified foreign affairs expert in the United States. While he is an exceptional leader, most voters vote for the candidates whom they can empathize with. People want a president they feel understands what they are going through and can make a difference in their lives. The irony is this man has made more of a difference in the entire world than most presidents but elections are more about the voters' perceptions than actual abilities.

Obama is not a Muslim or a Christian. He sympathizes with Muslims. He downplays Christianity. His church that he attended for over 20 years has a doctrine of Black Liberation Theology. So much of the racial discrimination that was leveled at AA's was based on what they looked like. If Barack Obama was walking down the street in alabama in the 1960's people wouldn't say "Hey there is a half african(or black) half white guy." They'd say "hey there is a black guy(feel free to insert a racial epithet)"

I look like like almost any other white american, to the point where people i do mention that i am 1/4 black to tend not to believe me. I am extraodinarily proud of my heritage, as anyone who truly spends the time to ask me knows, but i revert to simply referring to myself as white because that is not only the majority of my racial makeup, but who i appear to be.

But I hope we can move on (in terms of the overall view of race as being a "separator" of sorts). In that sense, I hate it when people rarely mention the reality of his mixed ethnicity (I myself am Jamaican/Grenada, which means mostly black + crap load of other stuff). Thus, I'd rather consider myself mixed in that sense. I just feel that race is thought of as too absolute in America :P
