I, unfortunately, live in Romania and since my country is in Europe, my school organizes Exchange Students Projects only in Europe , in countries such as Italy, Spain, UK or Germany but because of my dream of visiting Japan that badly, I cannot think of other countries but JAPAN. xD I was seaching for lots of projects that supports exchange of students in Japan on Internet but I can't find any.

@lilied1 Um a lot of them do but it depends on where they are from! The north like Hokkaido or the subtropical island south of Japan aka Okinawa. In Okinawa there is more mixture of race and the people their are more laid back and friendly than mainland Japan.

Based on the weather it could be anywhere in the summer though but because this is on october and I think that Okinawa is north of the equator it may be Okinawa indeed.

Holy crap! You're in Okinawa during the summer? I visited this past August and went as far south as Hiroshima and was dying! I was there for a little over two weeks. My god it would take me YEARS to fully understand even half the language. And i can't tell if the kids are being either VERY friendly, or trying to make fun. But one thing I know if I were in your position is that those conversations would feel VERY awkward for me. I wouldn't know what to do.

@Nora3625 My advice with Rosetta Stone is that you're better off with a text book first. My recommendation is the "Genki" series. Nothing beats rote memorization first then using the Rosetta Stone program for visualization and enunciation practice. I'm speaking from experience.

@sophmore90 thank you for your advice <3 i will look into learning more and especially into the "genki" series you mentioned, one quick question though, how long has it taken you to get to the current level of speaking Japanese you are at? or well, how long did it take you to learn Japanese in general?

@Nora3625 I have a horrible memory so most people would take about 4 months of just practicing every day for at least an hour. It took me about 6 months. As you progress through each chapter, construct sentences, create a dialogue, and memorize it. It helps to practice with someone else. Those sentences that you memorize will be very handy when you visit Japan. That was how I survived when I forgot to bring my phrase book. Good Luck!

@gintoki16 while I was there I got special treatment of course, I didn't have to do all the work they did and they didn't make me take the school tests. But they did let me participate in class with the work, so my friends would help me out and they would give me some tests to try sometimes.
