Koh Tao might be the cheapest place to get certified, but its definitely one of the worse. 3 1/2 day crash courses that churn out dangerously inept divers. I've seen so many horrible student get certified in over 2 years, it's scary.
I do love the island though, it still feels like my home. But if you really want to learn how to dive, go somewhere else.

Aahh.. miss that island where i was in april 2006. Sooo fun and relaxing. Im going in 2 and a half week to Thailand again! But this time to Phuket =D

We had a great time there too...and it's not as worse as you say Stuart...we certified there too and the course and instructors where really great!
