@cerveral Dude, why were they jumping with the horses? Is it like a cossack challenge? Do u know if that has any historical basis? Thanks for the video :)
@norb1937 Sorry for the delay, but you are right, Tony Curtis didn't looks like a cossak, but the movie's director didn't thought in that problem, and even Yul received more money to appear in second place in the roll, because Curtis asked to be the first. Hahahahaha
@cerveral My wife's great grandfather was a member of the Cossack brotherhood. And he had a scalp lock just like Brynner. He had three horses killed under him in eastern European battles.
@norb1937 Andrei (Tony Curtiss) had not earned it. A kozak earns the scalp lock IN BATTLE. And never, NEVER call a Kozak a coward!!!! My father was a Ukrainian Kozak from the old country (Ukraine). I'm retired miltary. I kept the tradition going. Never call me a coward. I can snap your neck with one hand. =Stefan=
Yul Brynner was so good actor for sure, and so was Tony Curtis too, Tony Curtis was so good looking in this type of movie, his ex-wife that he met her through this movie, she was so beautiful girl and so young when they were fliming this great moive at the time 1962, there were not any this type of great movies produced anymore in Holywood, what a tragic for the big screen.
Never, never call a Kozak a coward!!!We are honor bound to answer that. And I guarantee, you will be on the losing end. We Kozaks are still here, today. I may not be able to handle a sabre, but I am damned good with a .45!!!=Stefan=
Cossacks were the "freedom fighters" of Ukraine. They were a united fighting squad of elite, horse-back riding soldiers. They never went to Australia.
iron, I may have ancestry to Atilla, but I am a US Sailor. My first alegiance is to the "CONSTITUTION" . Never blame the sins of the fathers on the sons. What do I know about honor? How about this for a start. Never leave your comrades behind. But, of course, you know better. =Stefan=
@cerveral My wife's great grandfather was a member of the cossack brotherhood. He was Tarras Skevitch. He had three horses killed under him in eastern european battles.

Call a Kozak a coward at your own risk. The "Gorge" is not the only way to address that insult. =Stefan=

I love all of this except for the part of the horse falling to its death...I have a soft place in my heart for animals..

@DramaDon83 Well I'm agree with you, but let me tell you that no one horse was really harmed, Yul also loved animals so much.
Thanks for your comment!

I thought I reccognized him. The actor playing the younger son, Ostap Bulba, is Perry Lopez. He played Lt Escobar in Chinatown (1974).
