Some bands live too much based on some caractheristic from a member or the atitude instead of the music they create! Marillion showed that in spite of the strong personality and particular voice from Fish that they can do excelent music without him! They found another singer, they've softened the aproach but the quality is still there... this happened with Genesis and many other fantastic bands where music was the most important thing!

I have met FISH, and New Marillion, within 3 weeks of eachother even. Both were GReat guys, very nice blokes. Fish has openly stated how much he respects Hogarth, said he is a fan of Hogarth, and where he has taken the band. I personally cant decide if either is better so I stopped worrying about it, and just took the music in like the drug it really is.

And Marillion found they new way (for 20 years ago), and for me it´s a mix of true rock, prog and alternative! I have all the cds and became a fan for just two years ago. They are amazing, lyrics, solos, anyway, you have to study more or otherway stop talking bullshit!

David Gilmore is no Syd Barrett either, but he did manage to do an amazing job on Pink Floyd... The guitar solo on Time is no less than epic.

Fish and Hogarth have unique voices... I like both of 'em, though Hogarth spent a longer career on Marllion, therefore having a wider variety of songs. Marillion can't be resumed to it's lead singer.I wouldn't dare to compare Misplaced Childhood with Afraid of Sunlight nor Clucthing at Straws with Marbles... they're awesome and it's all Marillion.

@gdrive1 Fish had a very interesting sounding vocal (like he would do well doing voiceovers in films the way Morgan Freeman did), but he couldn't hit all the notes. Hogarth can hit most of the notes, but I have to say that I think he steers away from music that flatters him best. God alone knows why. My personal favourite is the bass version of The Bell In The Sea.

@TooRollingStoned7195 ...... seems like you don't have done much research :-) Try Neverland Live her at YT and you will find SH at his best (in my opinion). also songs like 21st Century, Happiness is the Road and Try albums like Anoraknophobia, Less is more and Marbles Live. I was just like you - stuck in the Fish era - until I heard Neverland and decided to give SH one more try. I have re-discovered Marillion and I have become a fan of SH!!
