No, this would have been produced for Sesame Street whose target audience was preschoolers and their curriculum: alphabet/phonic recognition and numbers up to 10 or 20. The Electric Company was for older students (up to about 4th grade) and focused on decoding words, punctuation, basic sentence building.
@BuddyBoy600 I remember this too, but I grew up in Australia where The Electric Company never aired. I wouldn't be surprised if the clip originated on TEC though; they were both made by the Children's Television Workshop, and there was tons of overlap/crossover in the 70s.
I love this clip from when I was a kid, but the animator clearly thought the VW Bug and the Citroen 2CV were one and the same. And the letter R makes back-of-the-throat sounds in both German and French. Imagine the car making that sound! And what would happen to the car if she had dropped in some other letter? Let's go through the Alphabet sounds in our heads now...I once had a '79 RX7 with a backfiring problem that sounded like there was a "P" in the engilne.
@914andystrong Be careful though - I put an 'r' in my car and now it makes that same goofy 'r-r-r-r-r-r-r-r' sound just like in the clip. It's quite embarassing.
Anyone remember a "How they do it" film on sesame street, about autobody work? It showed a guy pulling a dent out of a car door and repainting it. I can't find it anywhere, but would love to see that again.
That's one funky car, and one hot lady who drives it. Would that fixing a car was as simple as giving it an extra R, no doubt with a hefty dose of TLC.
So.....freaking......brilliant
Love the music, too!

@firestepher72 No, This was on Sesame Street. I remember seeing it on Sesame Street. This was for Sesame Street, Not The Electric Company.

@BuddyBoy600 : I'm wiling to wager that it possibly appeared on both. There were a few animation skits that did.

That car looks like a Volkswagen Beetle with an elongated front end. A great little animation.

Anyone ever notice that those exact sound effects of the starting car were also used in the original "Friday the 13th"? Peace.

I always thought the lady was supposed to be Susan.
CanadaFamilyMan 2 years ago
Come to think of it, it does look like Susan, in her younger days. She still does look pretty good.
PandaMishima 2 years ago
Actually, Susan here on Sesame Street probably never had a big hairdo just like the woman in this skit.
