  • eso lo que se echa en el airlock que es ? agua o alchool

  • @wilsonremix No comprenda

  • For my primary fermenting I'm using a balloon for an air-lock on a 1 gallon carboy. Its been 15 days, the balloon is still standing up fine and it still has co2 bubbles rising to the top. Im wondering when I should rack it to the second fermenter, how would I judge on when its ready?

  • When it's not producing CO2's anymore. I've never used a balloon before. You should buy an airlock. They are really cheap and you can use them over and over again.

  • Well I have air locks and I mostly rack 10-20 days in, when the bubbles calm down to 1 bubble every 10-15 minutes but I started making so much at a time that I had nowhere near that many airlocks. But when I rack it the C02 is still rising but not much at all. Thanks for your tip tho. How long have you been fermenting? If you dont mind me asking.

  • I've been making beer for over 2 years. Before that I made wine for a few years.

  • I got a question for you... I have been making wine and hard cider for a fair time now but I have never done beer is beer much harder or around the same?

  • I am glad to see you still posting.

  • I will from time to time.

  • I can smell it from here! There's nothing like the aroma of fermenting beer...

  • It's good stuff!!

  • Just thinking about it makes me feel like brewing again. If only I could find the time...

  • It doesn't take that much time. I brew in the winter so I have plenty for the summer. I don't think I will be brewing any until this fall at the earliest.

  • I know it's not that time intensive, but you also need space! Our little place is kinda crammed already! Wish I had a basement like yours, but Cindy would make a big Garden Jewelry

    studio out of it...

  • Yes, you do need some space to brew beer.

When you do have a basement, devide it in half so Cindy can only use half for her studio. The other half for your brewery.

  • Give me a decade or so and I'll think about it.

    I won't get that basement until I re-locate to

    someplace where houses are affordable...

  • You can come here to Kansas. Houses here are four or five times cheaper than in places like California.

  • There are just a couple of problems with Kansas: Cindy would probably not get her long-term disability benefits if she moved there, and I would have to find some gainful employment. I'm a lousy farmer. How is the taxi business there? I could conceivably work anywhere, but starting out again is a daunting prospect. I'd like to retire first, then relocate! Retirement is some 21 years in my future, should I live so long, but Eastern Canada has a cheaper cost of living than this West Coast scene...

  • There's lots of problems with Kansas!! lol She wouldn't want to lose her benefits, that's for sure. There is work here besides farming. I use to farm. You could drive a taxi in Wichita, but I don't know how well you would do there. I understand about starting over. I've been at the same job for 25 years and would love to find a different job but with a bad back it would be hard to find another job.

Good luck where ever you end up living.

  • Looks like I'm staying put for the foreseeable future. The place, with all its quirks, grows on you...

  • I know how that goes. Me too!!
